  1. My Octavia has a few electrical faults which i am unsure how to diagnose. I can't find much online except that the faults may all point to the wiring loom at the hinge of the drivers door. The drivers door central locking works intermitently, the drivers door puddle light has stopped working, and the lights on warning buzzer no longer works. Does anyone have any suggestions? If it is this part of the loom, are there any diagrams out there to help me get it out and fixed. Thanks
  2. Like a lot of you here, i was very cynical of this process. These machines are meant to split the water therefore creating hydrogen and oxygen. As both elements will enter the air intake it will simply mix again and create water vapour. That is what made me question the process. So i thought i would try something out. I booked a carbon clean for mine and a mates car, a 2002 Octavia and 2008 Astra. Before the guy came we put a hose up the exhaust of the Astra and rinsed out all the carbon and soot deposits sitting in the exhaust (I do not recommend you do this to your car) until the water run clean. Then the guy turns up with all his wonderful claims and starts the process. Surprise surprise, he commented on how great the engine was in the Astra as there was very little carbon build up. I think the truth is, these machines flush water through your system at a high temperature to clean it, but all you are seeing come out of the exhaust is the crap that is harmlessly sitting in the exhaust anyway. I too was removed from a Facebook page for asking about evidence led trials. If these companies were as trustworthy as they say, and if the technology worked as they claim, at least one of them would have taken an old coked up engine, done their magic with it, then stripped the engine completely to prove it was now clean. It wouldn't take them that long and ultimately, it would make them a fortune. I think this is just the latest snake-oil business that will earn a lot of fast money in a short time and disappear in a couple of years once people realise it's not all it seems. Let's be honest, if it really did work, manufacturers would be clambering all over themselves to invalidate your warranty for using it as they would lose them a fortune on expensive parts and repairs.
  3. Great, thanks for that. I'm getting on to it this weekend so so plenty of measuring and bravery it is then
  4. I've just been given a Vrs spoiler for my MK1 Octy but need some advice on fitting it. Are there any pre-marked points for drilling inside the tailgate or is it a case of mark and drill from the outside, apply some tiger seal, and bolt on from underneath?
  5. Great thread! Followed this and had mine fitted in under an hour. Much easier and clearer than the instructions in the box. They do a great job for £9.99. Thanks
  6. I'm looking for a fault code reader for my 2002 1.9tdi Octy. I've looked at loads on Ebay, Amazon etc and some of them say they work on all VAG cars from 1996, but some say they only cover diesels from 2004. Some reviews say they do work on pre 2004 diesels! I'm confused. Can anyone help me please? Just looking for something cheap and cheerful.
  7. I always use AG products. Over the years however, i have reduced the amount of stuff i buy as they have so many products on sale now that are covered by other products. As it was a birthday gift, enjoy it and enjoy the fruits of your labour. And as already mentioned, make sure you rinse the wheels well after using the wheel cleaner. It is a very harsh product.
  8. I've always used AG Bumper & Trim Gel on my tyres. I thought of trying the High Performance Tyre Gel but it's more pricey and my mate says it doesn't make much of a difference. Also, the bumper gel doesn't give it quite as much of a wet shine that other tyre dressings do, and that suits me. Plus it saves me buying an extra bottle of stuff to clean my car. 20 years ago i had a bottle of something for every part of the car but as i got more experienced, or wiser, i realised that there was no need for a boot full of products for cleaning my car.
  9. I thought my 2002 TDi ALH was quite high at 104000 but since joining this forum i've realised mines just broke in. Plenty of life in the old car yet.
  10. Hi, I'm on to my 4th MK1 Octavia now and have been looking at this forum for years for all sorts of help and tips. I'm in the process of "doing" up my old Octavia for my son who is turning 17 next week and ready to learn to drive, so i thought it was time i joined this forum properly in case i need some help along my way. Who knows, maybe i can be useful to someone too. Everyone gets a warm welcome here, so i'll say thanks in advance, and look forward to Briskoda helping me keep my MK1's alive for years to come.
