  1. Thanks, that's the one I ended up going for in the end, I'll report back once it's fitted.
  2. I'm tempted to just get a cheap standard size one off eBay for the time being. The problem is there seems to be two types; one looks like it almost has two cats with an o2 sensor between them and the other has the one cat with the sensor after it! The one with 2 cats looks the most like the stock one but it's more expensive! Heres the 2 I was looking at; http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Exhaust-Pipe-Catalytic-Converter-for-Skoda-Octavia-1-8-10-00-02-01-/331953257556 http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/BM90900-Catalytic-Converter-VW-GOLF-1-8i-20v-Turbo-Mk-4-AGU-ARZ-eng-5-98-2-01-/182267715916
  3. From what I've read there could be a clearance issue because it doesn't have the same bend between the cat and the flexi section that the stock pipe does! I've definitely heard at least two people mention it can knock as they pull away! My cats seriously rattling now so I need one urgently but can't afford to spend silly money on a sports cat setup at the moment so I may just settle for the first one for the time being? I could spend the same on a 2nd hand stock pipe which will probably be better quality but god knows how long that one will last?
  4. My cat has broken up on my Vrs so looking to replace it, ideally as cheap as possible as I'm short of funds at the mo! Thinking of possibly going the 2.5 downpipe + sports cat route while I'm at it but not sure how cheaply I can do it and what the options are? Alternatively I buy a used oem one and hope it lasts or buy a cheap standard size one? Ive seen this on eBay but not 100% sure it will fit as it says it's for the AGU engine? http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/111704240705 I've also seen this all in one 2.5 with sports cat, but I think it might have problems with clearance? http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/230795773977 Any advice would be most welcome, thanks
  5. Need a replacement box for my VRS and wondering which other boxes will fit other than the 02j EHA stock? I've heard the 02m will fit and its stronger but I can't find too much info on it? Just need a definitive answer to exactly which boxes to buy as I'd hate to be in the middle of fitting it only to find out I've got the wrong one! : / Also wouldn't mind some recommendations for a reasonably priced but reliable clutch kit? I was looking at either the Valeo kit (826317) or the LuK kit (417001911)? Thanks
  6. Did you sell the gearbox in the end?
  7. Don't suppose you have the gearbox? & clutch depending how old it is?
  8. Good idea, thanks. Just hoping someone might come forward to help me? Got a quote from a local gearbox specialist who are quoting £250...but that's about £250 more than I've got! : /
  9. My mistake...I knew it was 180bhp! Just got it confused with my Saab 9-3 coupe I had a while back...started off at 150bhp but ended up remapping it to 250bhp...but that's another story! I would like to think it's the oil but it sounds a little too loud for that so I'm pretty sure it will need replacing! : ( Thanks for the heads up on the release bearing...wouldn't want to forget that! May look into an engine crane, but may just try to make do with a trolley jack?
  10. Just picked up a black Mk1 Octy VRS for a pretty decent price considering it's got full service history 79k on the clock and recently had the cam belt and water pump done!....however there's a bit of a boost problem and 1st gear makes a bit of a whirring sound (sounds like a bearing issue?). Ive also just discovered the clutch is slipping too! I'd factored the first two issues into the price and I thought as long as the engine and turbo are good then with a bit of work I could end up with a pretty decent car! I'm hoping the boost issue is something simple like a vacuum leak or something similar, although it could be a dodgy remap as it pulls a bit harder than I was expecting from the stock 150bhp! As far as the gearbox I was looking at picking up a used tested one on ebay or on here. I've seen one that says its come off a 03 1.8 Octavia but doesn't say if it will fit the vrs? It comes with these product codes EHA EWU 02J300052M 02J300048DX? I was looking at either the Valeo clutch kit (826317) or the LuK kit (417001911)? Would these kits have everything I need? Lastly, although I like to get my hands dirty, and with a little help from Google will try to fix most things myself...I think the gearbox and clutch are a bit beyond me! Can anyone recommend somewhere south of London (I'm in Horsham) that could fit these bits at a reasonable price? Alternatively is there anyone nearby who knows what they're doing and are willing to give me a hand trying to fit them myself? I'd love to take my diy one step further by tackling the transmission, but I don't quite have the confidence to do it on my own! Unfortunately it would have to be on the drive with no ramps but we won't be short of tools, trolley jack, stands etc. Happy to cover fuel, food, beers etc!
  11. Would you be interested in selling it if I can get it couriered? How much are you looking for?
  12. Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be going down the 225 route then. Had already been looking at the F1's or the Barum Bravuris 3HM's the both seem to get great reviews!
  13. I know this thread is pretty old now, but I too have been looking to fit 225's to my VRS but until now have been put off by the talk of increased MPG. I've read lots of posts where people state losses of up to 5 MPG so I'm thinking it could also be a combination of tyre manufacture too? I'd be interested to know which tyres you had fitted? Thanks
  14. Thanks, but unfortunately your a little too far from me as I'm in Horsham! Perhaps we could look into getting it couriered though?
  15. I know this is a long shot but I don't suppose you still have this? Thanks
