I have a 256GB Sandisk Extreme in my S III and it works fine; important is to not leave more than 500 or so files in one folder or random can't find them.

WMA is awful, MP3 isn't much better. FLAC works fine for the 2018 headunit in mine...

What exactly are you trying to do? I just have the SD stuck in slot 2 and it just works. Nav data is in slot 1.

I've just ripped a couple of albums to FLAC.  I'll roadtest them on Tuesday, as I have 5 hours of driving to do.

I didn't realise that Windows Media Player offered FLAC as an option, I thought I'd have to convert the files.

I also use Audacity a lot and I've just discovered that it also allows you to export as FLAC 👍

  2. If you're storing them in individual folders, you need to make sure that the folder name in 'file properties' is the same as the folder it is in, or they all get jumbled up and difficult to locate.

Edit:  When I'm ripping CDs to my PC, I save them as 'WMA' files, rather than MP3.

  3. After the rigmarole of updating the maps on my last Superb, I wasn't going to bother with my current one.  It was only a 2 year lease, so I didn't see the point.

However, the fleet department decided to extend the lease by 12 months, possibly due to reduced mileage last year because of CV19, and possibly the effect this had on the business.  I finally decided to update the maps after being told that the lease had been further extended for yet another 12 months (ouch).

Following all the downloading and unzipping, I used the satnav for the first time, to visit a customer whose location was already stored in the satnav - GPS co-ordinates.  I was probably just over a mile from the customer when the satnav announced that I had reached my destination.  Hmmm, not good.

The next few trips seemed to be OK, but another journey this week had me nearly five miles from the correct destination, again with pre-stored co-ordinates.

Another journey yesterday and quite a few of the speed limits displayed were incorrect.  I'm sure they were OK before the update.

I did back up the SD card prior to the update, so I have just reinstated the previous version.  Selecting the destination which was 5 miles out, the distance seems to be OK, so I'm hoping I've cracked it.

Anyone else experienced any issues like this?

Ahh, so i should disable ACC, then try to set in maxidot, under which menu should it be? Ill take a look once i rejoin with my car(its with my wife and kids on the seaside, while im working at home/have to drive my wifes A3 :D )

You don't need to disable ACC in order to set coasting in maxidot.  Coasting will just not happen when ACC is engaged.

I do have the mode button, so I can't check where to set it in maxidot.  I did have a Passat without the mode button and it was available to set in maxidot, I just can't remember where.

Also, coasting will not work when the gear selector is in 'sport' mode.

Ahh, now it figures, i do not have the mode button, hence no driving modes, hence no eco/coasting at all.. As far as i know, on a WV, the eco also removes the smart portion on the front lights, as well as reduce aircon usage..

If you don't have the mode button, you should be able to select 'coasting' in the settings menu, as e-Roottoot posted above.

Coasting is disabled when ACC is active.

  6. Recently, I've noticed that when I try to find a POI - petrol station, for example - that the satnav shows me a whole host of options for where I've been, but not where I'm heading.  Sometimes 50, 60 or 70 miles behind me.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Anyone know what the cause might be?

    Thanks in advance.

USB 12V to 5V adapters are famous for causing DAB interference: I had to try several on my previous car until I found a good one. Not an issue if DAB signal is strong, but slightly weaker signal - DAB is killed completely

Hard-wired dashcam eg Nextbase, does not seem to cause any DAB issues - might be that the Nextbase adapter is better designed

That's interesting.  I have problems with DAB signal disappearing.  I also have have a 3-way cigar lighter adapter with a 5v USB outlet.

I have Nextbase cameras front & rear.  At one time, I had a cheapo camera on the back, but it caused terrible interference with FM radio.

I cancelled that nonsense right at the beginning - I come home in the car, lock up, the wife needs something from it and the seat motors into her position, and vice versa. A complete waste of battery power and seat motor lifespan, when there's a perfectly good set of numbered buttons on the side of the seat for when we really do need it.

Me too.  I cancelled mine because I have the seat all the way back and all the way down, but Skoda don't like that, even when stored in that position.  It would always move the seat upwards and forwards when unlocking.

I've never found rain sensitive wipers to work properly on any car, so I always disable that feature.  Also, ISTR that I once had a Passat where the wiper speed would sometimes change at random.

I've found that for a number of places that I'm going to such as caravan parks, retail units etc it doesn't recognise the address as they don't tend to have street numbers and just using the postcode can be way off your destination.

Can't see that using the phone would be any easier than using coordinates 🤔

I've had the same problem using postcodes to find customer sites, as they can often be half a mile or more from where you want to be.

I always use the DMS co-ordinates.  Before finding an app to convert from digital format, I made an excel spreadsheet to do it.  Bit of a faff, but it worked.

These days, if I'm going somewhere I haven't been before, I use google maps to locate the site, streetview to find the entrance to the car park, or whatever, then drop a pin in the map at that point.  That then generates digital co-ordinates (first pic) and if you click on them, it gives another box with DMS co-ordinates.

  10. I had this problem a few weeks ago.  I booked the car in for a service, only to be told that the leasing company wouldn't authorise it, as it wasn't due.  Apparently, the garage that serviced it last time, didn't reset it properly - it should have been on variable.

Anyway, the garage said the leasing company wouldn't let them reset it - I'm guessing there would be a charge - so told me to contact the leasing company, which I did.  They sent me the instructions, which worked.

    hello everyone,

I own a skoda superb 1.5tsi ACT and yesterday i went to the dealer for the first service. They asked me if there is something wrong with the car so i sad that the car is coasting in D, so i cant drive the car in D mode, only in S mode because it is very annoying. After the service was complete, they said thats how the car works in D mode, there is nothing wrong with that, and they cant change it.

Do you know how to stop the car do coasting in D mode? Maybe from the display...i dont have driving select mode.

PS: the cars petrol consumption in D mode is a lot higher that in S mode because of the stupid coasting. the car doesnt do engine break in D mode.

    thank you

I don't know if it's possible, but I once had a Passat which only had 'D' and 'S' modes, no Eco.  It would coast in 'D' mode, so I would drive in 'S'.  I then discovered that coasting could be turned off in MFD.

It might be worth a look.

Personally I would go hard or go home and get the proper Skoda Oris foldable bar as you’ll need the ACC recalibrated after fitting any towbar anyway and the foldable one is extra handy :)

Curious to know why the ACC needs recalibrating.  I'm considering a towbar for my next car.

  13. I had an issue with a B7 Passat, which felt like the steering was twitchy.

In the end, it turned out to be the steering rack.

It only happened after I had been driving for more than an hour. Driving in a straight line on the motorway, it felt like it was twitching one way or the other. When you’re driving along, you are continually making very slight adjustments to the steering without even thinking about it, so for slight deviations from straight, you aren’t aware that you’re steering. My steering rack was ‘sticky’ and when I was making slight steering inputs, nothing was happening, so I was subconsciously putting more effort into the steering, at which point the rack would suddenly move, making it feel twitchy.

The dealer took some convincing  that there was an issue, as it never manifested itself until I had been driving for at least an hour, but eventually VW agreed to replace the rack and all was good.

Over the past 7 months since new, I've averaged 44.9mpg. Happy with that.

I must have a heavy right foot. Mine averages about 38mpg

I do a fair amount of motorway driving.

I can get about 45mpg on Irish motorways, because there’s generally very little traffic. Not so on the M1, unfortunately.

Nice one thanks Mr P. Yeah it's not done bad especially considering I use it to open the boot just about twice every trip ! Just wish I could find the spare I lost lol !

Yes, it’s lasted a lot longer than mine. Car is eight months old and I got the message today.
