  1. Well, my nephew decided to move on and let the injured Octy at my hands! Practically, the car should be written off. It has 370k kilometers on the clock and the damage is costly, including the airbags and seat belts. But the engine has a lot of juice left and I'm quite stubborn to give it up. So, I will try to restore it and even better, to make some mods. I definitely will need some help so can I count on here? Hope not to be boring, asking all these questions. It's one more Skoda saved from the scrap yard, returning on the road. It's a reason to be happy, isn't it?
  2. Hello! My nephew had a tiny accident but unfortunately it was able to activate the srs. The outer damage is minimal, the main cost of the repair is the airbags and seat belts replacement. The question is do all the dash/airbags from different versions fit? The car is a 2001 1.6 AVU engine. Could we fit the airbags from a different engine/year car (as long as it comes from mk1, of course!)? The car is LHD. In other words, do all mk1 Octavia share the same airbags? Thanks in advance!
  3. Thanks. I will perform the test when I will have some time. Any special needs than the usual procedure?
  4. I will perform a compression test, then for starting. Do we know the pressure limits for this type of engine?
  5. Sep, I don't understand what you mean by breathing heavily. If you mean that it's near it's end of life, I think the engine has plenty of juice left. What makes the oil to go up the breathing pipe into the intake?
  6. Fabia 1.4 16V aub engine, 250k kilometers on the clock. It was on my vacation trip that the epc and check engine lights came on and the engine went in safe mode. I plugged the vcds and it gave me "17953 - Throttle valve controller malfunction". I turned the ignition off and restarted the engine and the problem had gone until the few next minutes were it came again. Long story short, I took off the throttle body and it was dirty as hell. Oil with carbon deposits from the egr were everywhere. Oil, very much oil. I traced the source and it was the crankcase ventilation line that goes through the air filter box and goes in the intake. I know some quantity of oil passes the vent chamber but in my case there is huge amount of oil. I had cleaned the throttle body some 30k kilometers ago so, I think it's too early to be in such a condition. Any suggestions on what to check? PS. After the cleaning, the engine runs without any problems.
  7. I have a LHD Fabia and I confirm that mine too, doesn't stay on R position. It can stay on L+R (middle position) and on the defogger (bottom position). I think this is described in the user's manual but it's gone a long time since I read it.
  8. And quite bulletproof, aren't they?
  9. After so many years, I barely remember! Well, to put things in order, the problem with mine was the CCM. What you can see at the photos I had posted above, isn't the CCM. I wasn't familiar with the car back then and I was misunderstood the parts and functions! I had bought the car with that problem (and some more) so it didn't happened to me. I don't know if the previous owner had seen any smoke. He still doesn't remember anything (I have close contact with both the previous owners). We are guessing that what caused the problem was a short circuit at the roof light. The CCM went off and caused the problem with the locks going mad! The other module (of which the photos are) continued to work ok! Of course there is the possibility the burning (and short) capacitor burned the CCM. That will stay a mystery. My CCM was not fried. Not a sign of overheating or a burning element. It just broke down. So practically, I can't help you. It seems you have different problem than mine!
  10. Yes, fast enough because I had already removed half the dashboard!!!
  11. @WinoThank you, thank you, thank you!!! It was the ignition switch. It was quite easy to take it out. Now I have to see if I can repair it since I'm on a journey and not easy to find spares where I am, at moment.
  12. I looked at the diagrams and yes, both headlights and heater fan are sharing a contact of the ignition switch. I have to dismantle it. Is it hard to remove it on a LHD Fabia?
  13. No change, Wino! The fan motor still doesn't turn on neither the headlights. What I tried is to short the fan relay's (or relais, I don't know what spelling is correct!) secondary contacts and the fan was working as should, with the difference that it could be operated with the ignition off, too.
  14. As title says, the heater fan and the headlights are not working. As for the fan, it's not the fan itself, no power at all at fan's terminals at whatever position the switch is. As for headlights, no power at low beam, no power at high beam, no indicator lights on the clock. Passing signal works. Fuses are all right. Searching further, I found that there is no power delivery on the fan motor circuit. The same goes for the lights. I found that the relay that switches the power to the fan when the ignition is turned on, does not engage because it's primary circuit (the coil circuit) does not get any voltage. Any clues?
  15. Hello again. I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I'm in a hurry to deliver the car to my nephew who is a student at another town and he will not be able to fix some things. The last problem (I hope) I have to deal with is the error 18070 - p1662 coolant fan control 2: short to ground. I replaced the fan control module (1j0919506k) but the problem continues. The A/C works ok, the radiator fans work ok but the ecu always throw this code. I returned the new module as doa but the second replacement threw the same error. So, it's definitely something else. Any ideas? Thanks and sorry for the repeating questions.
  16. Hello, a quick question! Where is the pre cat O2 sensor located on a 2001 1.6 AVU engine? (yes I know it's on the exhaust manifold before the cat ) To be more accurate, is it accessible from the engine bay or by underneath the car? Thanks!
  17. From the absence of replies I guess it's not a common problem... At least I hope so!
  18. Today I had a chatting with a mechanic. He said that the SR engines are prone to block cracking. The Octy we bought has the AVU engine. Is this engine type suffering from such a failure?
  19. The car has full history record. Also, the previous owner has kept all the invoices and receipts from day one!!! The cam belt has been replaced about 40k km ago. The car has 340,000 km! On the same engine and without any major repairs. The gearbox has been replaced due to noisy bearings.
  20. Hello to the Octavia part of the forum! My nephew is about to buy his first car and we found a '01 1.6L. It has the SR engine. It's a very high mileage car but well maintained and it runs very well. My nephew was in a hurry so we grabbed this car at a very good price (due to mileage). He will drive it mostly on highways with speed limits 90 - 130km/h. So, no hard use, I guess. Are there any points we must take care of or be careful, except for the usual inspection a used car needs? How is the oil consumption of these engines? Thank you!
  21. I thought it was obvious I was joking. I guess I was wrong... Anyway, to finish it, it was indeed a great experience going back so many years. And of course there are tons of knowledge there... And of course the lever with the "on" indicator is for
  22. Obviously, it was quite interesting!
  23. Old post, I know but worth mentioning. Is OP sure the new case hasn't already fitted with a chip? When I replaced my case, the new (very cheap from eBay) had the immo chip installed. All I needed if I wanted to make it functional was to register the new chip to the car's immo.
  24. I managed to surf through the 1886 (till now) pages of the Fabia I forum! It took me some of a year to read... OK, not every post but the eye catching and every post familiar with my fabia (quite a lot!). A huge amount of knowledge is found here! But over all these pages, all these years, all that people who participated, I have a question... What the bloody thing with the "on" indication on the cub holder is for???
