  1. OK, after a little searching I found I have to replace the bearing carriers and discs. The problem is that I don't have the part numbers for the 280mm carriers. The parts sites are quite confusing since they don't declare what carrier matches what disc. If anyone knows the part number for the 280mm carriers or on what engines they where used and willing to help, I would appreciate it! Of course, I will keep on searching myself, too.
  2. Thanks @KenONeill What parts will I need to replace to fit the 280mm front disks? If I choose to keep the oem (256mm?) should this leads to brake unbalance and loose of control? The car has ABS but I don't trust it a lot!
  3. Well, no answers but I try little more. The rear beam I bought comes with 256mm disks. My car is a 1.6l petrol (AVU) and I see on the net that it comes also with 256mm front disks. I haven't measured mine but if considering this to be true, would it be an overkill to have the same disk diameter both front and rear? Furthermore, would it be an unbalance factor under hard braking? A thought of upgrading, what are the biggest front disks that fit in the oem 15" alloy rims? I haven't assembled the rear disks, yet. Should I search for the 232mm rear disk setup, for peace of mind?
  4. Some more progress From this point To this state A plus: since the whole dash was out for replacement (airbag deployment) I decided to add the cruise control. The 1.6l petrol has the ecu loom ready (like the diesels) so only the stalk loom was needed and with no dash in place - piece of cake! Technically, from this point on, the car can return on the roads. But it needs some more TLC. The best yet to come!
  5. Thanks. The longevity concerns me as I have heard they go useless after 15k - 20k miles...
  6. Hello! It seems that during restoration, I will need to replace the shock absorbers. For my non vrs (it's a 1.6l petrol) Octy with oem springs, the Bilstein B4 are a cheap solution. But some forums insist they are crap and should be avoided. Any opinions?
  7. Some progress It needs a lot of work more but who cares? Next job to fix the bonnet and the rear door. I have to glue the door strip, too.
  8. There are two different symbols there: A red symbol that is lit when you turn the ignition on and turns off after 5 seconds. This symbol is a reminder to use your seat belt. If you haven't fasten it, it's accompanied with a brief sound warning. A yellow symbol for the airbags. It is lit when you turn the ignition on for a brief period and if anything is normal it should turn off. If after starting the engine it stays on, it shows some malfunction of the airbags system. Read the manual, it's still available for downloading (free) from Skoda.
  9. If for a used one, yes I already have found many. The problem is that no "genuine new parts" are available anymore. I found a lot of sites/sellers that this exact part on their catalog but when ordering, I had the same answer: "unfortunately, discontinued by the manufacturer". And the problem is with more critical parts than a cosmetic bezel. Thankfully, most mechanical parts are under the VW control so still available plus many aftermarket availability.
  10. I was searching for the left front door's tweeter bezel and this part hasn't been made after market. I went to buy the genuine and it has been unavailable since April, 2021. It looks like many (if not all) parts for the mk1 aren't available anymore. Skoda has ended the support? I guess so. It's quite alarming. It will make it difficult to source some parts.
  11. Good evening! I know the subject has been exhaustively discussed. But I still can't find one tiny detail. My Octy comes with rear drums. I have a whole beam with everything on it (calipers, disks, stub axles, abs sensors, handbrake cables even the shock absorbers - Bilstein sprint - with their top mounts). The most obvious thing is to replace the whole beam at once. But this means I have to visit the garage to have the car raised. I wonder if my drum beam has the same side mounts so I can leave the original beam on the car and mount on it the disk stub axles, calipers and dust covers. If this is the case, I can do it on my parking lot with stands. Does that sound doable?
  12. Quick question: are there any original markings on the steering column to place the steering wheel at the correct position? I found some marks (a triangle) on the face of the column and the wheel was fixed at this mark but when fully turned left or right, there is some difference at the two ends. Turning the wheel left it needs 1 and a half turns plus some mm more while turning the wheel right it needs 1 and a half minus some mm. Is it correct or someone has... revisited the area and placed the wheel (and the marks) slightly offset?
  13. Yesterday, I decided to replace the airbags and the dashboard. I noticed some pink powder under the a/c vent to the footwell. I put my finger into the vent and it was wet with coolant. Oops, here we go... It's a @#&*ing job to take out the climate mechanism. Some screws are fasten from the engine compartment and guess what, the intake manifold is exactly in front of them. I had to remove the throttle body to give me some space. Inside the dash, it was a hell... I guess the designers hated the mechanics. Anyway, the mechanism is out and I replaced the heating core. The old one (was the oem) had busted. It was full of leaks... Now, I have to put everything back. Yes, I know: installation is placed in the reverse order...
  14. Yes, there is plenty of information on briskoda! I just made a more careful cleaning of the egr pipe and it had some carbon not only on the usual pipe holes but also inside of the tube. I made a short test drive and no fault came. I'll watch it the long term. Thank you, Pete and wish you a happy new year!!!
  15. Thank you, Pete! Your help is always priceless! So, since this pipe doesn't control anything with vacuum, I can't find any other solution to eliminate error code 16785. Do you think I have to remove completely the egr and it's manifold pipe for better cleaning? How can I check the valve is working with vcds?
  16. Good morning and happy new year!!! The check engine light was on yesterday and the vcds showed insufficient egr flow. I removed the TB to clean the suspected inlet pipe but it was still unclogged. So, inspecting the egr area I found this pipe missing one part. Where should it be connected to? Thanks and wishes!
  17. Exactly what I done! With the base code 9102 the paintshop found the alternative shades (there are 4) and matched the best. Another question (one of many coming!!!) Do you know the part number of the torx screws that hold the headlights?
  18. Thank you! I guess I'll try the 9102.
  19. I just got the answer from the dealer and they said they don't keep data from such old vehicles. My only solution is to try the 3 codes @bigjohngave above or to use a spectrograph. If anyone has a 2001 diamond silver Octavia and can give me the exact code, I would appreciate it!
  20. Thanks! I'll try the authorized dealers first, but I doubt they will be any helpful.
  21. Good morning! I have collected all the parts needed for the restoration. Unfortunately, the first major problem just appeared. I don't have the color code. I miss the original books of the car and the sticker at the boot is... well... damaged... The only recognizable code is the "BE" at the end of the line. Can this code give any info (I'm afraid no, it seems to be the interior color code)? If anyone could help I would be grateful! Thanks!
  22. Thanks for the reply. I totally agree with you and I'm in search for the correct sensor. But, it's very difficult to find one as the car breakers stock these parts usually without any more information. The sensor that was with the airbags was from a car equipped with side airbags. Mine hasn't. So, I had to use the resistor modification to trick the system. This is also tampering with the safety systems and I want to avoid it. The error the sensor gave was because I had tested it with the old, blown airbags. So, the error SHOULD have been thrown. No worries about it. Anyway, the Leon sensor gives no errors now that I have also replaced the airbags. It sends the correct signal to the ecu and it senses correctly the two airbags so, I think it will be ok till I find the exact sensor for my car.
  23. Well, I found a good set of airbags, including the seat belts, although mine are intact. The only problem was the crash sensor (airbag "ecu") was from an Octy with side airbags. Mine doesn't have. So, the scrapper gave me an "ecu" from a Seat Leon which has the same exactly part number and index. Unfortunately, the soft code is different (12865 is the new, 12358 is the old). I installed it with the old deployed airbags and it throws no other errors except for the deployed airbags (igniter resistant too high). Do you think I'm safe using this "ecu"?
