  1. @neilsupermac I'm not sure if this helps you in anyway, possibly as a guide maybe? I opted for a flexible service plan when I got my car expecting to do 15k per year, due to a slight change in circumstance I'm only doing 12k per year but never-the-less my service notification popped up at approx. 18k, this was for the 1st Oil Service. I noticed that the 'Service' was also due 1,500 miles later so asked my dealer if they could do both at the same time. The car went in, service mileage reset (18k) and they charged me £170 all in. I didn't know if this info would help in your negotiations with the dealer, sorry I'm a little late in responding. Terry
  2. Most of my driving is my commute to/from work, approx. 25 miles each way. It's a mix of motorway, 50mph A roads and some town driving. I quickly realised that the cars computer is optimistic and therefore got into a habit of measuring my average mpg after every tank fill... sadly it's an habit I can't now break Anyway, after almost 2yrs and 24k my lowest average on a tank has been 44.58mpg and my best has been 54.65mpg. OMG I feel so embarrassed admitting this...... the fact I've actually kept a record. On single runs I've seen mid 60's but I've also seen it drop into the 30's with a lot of 'around town' driving. I should add that I rarely use stop/start. And according to my wife I drive like a granddad (most of the time...). Terry PS Mine is the 150bhp
  3. @JollySimon I've not been around for a while so just playing catch up. Had to comment on the photos you've posted, as other have said, the car looks stunning and I love the way you've used the light..... I assume the photos were taken RAW and you've done a little post processing? Either way, lovely result, beautiful photos....
  4. @Ecalpemosgreen Welcome. I agree with Penguin17, looks very classy in that colour. @Tonykits Welcome. Love the blue exterior / cream interior combination.... in truth, I'm simply not brave enough to go for a cream interior.!
  5. Good advice from @BriskodaJeff it's how I eventually found the right position. The guide provided by @Rainmaker is also very good and worth a read...
  6. You haven't said which model of Superb you've got but... I've got an SE Tech with the Alcantara/Leather seats, electric and fully adjustable on the drivers side. It took me over 12 months to get it right but my problem was quite specific, it was the lumbar support. The passenger seat (which isn't electric) is perfect. Even now I feel the lumber support is a little too hard but any less and it causes discomfort elsewhere... For the first 12 months I would be squirming and moving around in the seat after as little as a 20 minute drive. I'm not sure if the lumbar support has softened a little, I've got more used to it, I've found a compromise, or a combination of all three? Whilst I still feel that the lumbar support is a little too hard, I can say in all truth that even after a 3 - 4hr drive I no longer have any back ache or discomfort when I get out of the car. Persevere and good luck.!!
  7. Had a quick look at the invoice, it doesn't specify what oil they've used but it cost £39.95+VAT. I did ask the service receptionist and supposedly they have used 'long life' oil, in answer to my question they actually said... "yes, with the car being on variable servicing we use long life oil.". They've reset the service interval and it's currently suggesting the next service will be due in 19k miles. Skidpan. The car is 16 months old and is on a 2yr contract, at the time of the service it had done 18260 miles. All things being equal the next service will be due in around 18,000 miles but I'll have returned the car by then so, this should be the only service I pay for in 2yrs and 27,000 miles ownership (lease-ship ). Had I been on a fixed service interval would it not require a service every 10k / 12 months and therefore, I would have to pay for at least two services? I was never offered such a beneficial service plan, £270 for two services does sound very good, but still £110 more than I hope I will need to pay...
  8. @Adrian55555 That price does include VAT and the oil accounted for around £40 + VAT from memory....
  9. Okay, car went into RRG Skoda in Bolton on Wednesday. They dropped me off at work (their car not mine), did a combined 1st Oil and Inspection service, sent me a nice little video, reset the service indicators, £160 all in. Where on earth the supplying dealer got "that'll be £360 and I've applied a little discount" I've no idea.... In truth I think £160 for what is essentially an Oil & Filter change is a bit steep but, given some of the comments on this thread I'm okay with it. Thanks again for all the replies. Terry
  10. Thanks for all the replies, I do appreciate your comments. I contacted a Skoda dealer near to where I work yesterday and they quoted £160... I clarified that this would cover both the 1st Oil and 1st Inspection Services and the guy said yes. He went on to say they would reset the display and I should be good for another 18k. It was the supplying dealer who quoted £360, don't think they'll be the supplying dealer when I come to replace the car.! In truth, as others have said, there doesn't appear to be much to this service, Oil, Oil Filter, Pollen Filter, check over and top up the fluids as required... Anyway, booked in for the 29th so I'll let you know. Thanks again, Terry
  11. Advice please. My car is on a variable service schedule and is booked in for it's 1st Oil and Inspection Service (according to display the Oil due in 1k and the Inspection in 2k so thought it easier to have them both done at the same time?), I've done approx. 18,000 miles. My question is, what should I expect to pay for this 'combined' service? The dealer has quoted approx. £360 inc Parts, Labour & VAT. I thought this sounded a little steep but having never owned a Superb before, I had nothing to compare it with. I'd appreciate your comments. Terry
  12. This has nothing to do with Audi's or Skoda's but it might give one or two of the older members of this forum a smile.... I once had a Vauxhall Viva, its previous owner worked in the bodyshop of a Vauxhall garage and from the outside it looked like a Magnum (is anyone on here old enough to remember them?). Wide wheels, slightly flared arches, front spoiler, spots, grill, the lot... Unfortunately, under the bonnet was a standard, gutless, Vauxhall Viva engine.... and not a good example at that. A 50 mile drive to Blackpool to 'cruise' the prom involved carrying at least 1 gallon of oil (never had to do an oil change, just stuck a new filter on every now and again) AND a gallon of water. It also had a 4 speed Bedford Beagle gearbox out of a van. Top speed, if I felt brave enough, 65.... maybe 70mph depending on which way the wind was blowing. Problem was, every boy racer, at every set of traffic lights, wanted a race.... very embarrassing However, I still have very fond memories of that car......... Terry
  13. I did a quick 10k report back in January, at that time I reported the following: - "Over the past couple of months, I’ve noticed that the MPG’s dropped to the high 40’s from being consistently in the low 50’s. I’ve put this down to a change in the weather… more idling time whilst defrosting, traffic moving a little slower, that sort of thing. I always check the MPG tank fill to tank fill so these reading are quite accurate, I find the on-board computer is always a couple of MPG optimistic." My commute is 24 miles, a mixed bag of Motorway, 50mph A roads and a little town traffic. Since then, and through the worst of the bad weather, I had a couple of tank fills drop to around 46 but I'm pleased to say it's back into the low 50's.... last tank fill was just shy of 51 (genuine) and it's currently looking around 52 - 53.! Happy days PS I never use stop/start.
  14. The number of times I've parked, got out of the car, looked back, got back in the car and moved it forward.....
  15. My commute involves Motorway, 50mph A roads and a little town driving. On the Motorway I find ACC works well, it operates smoothly and with a little anticipation from me, handles overtaking manoeuvres okay too. However, on the stretch of A roads I use I really don’t like it. It’s quite an undulating road and I feel it braking on the downhill bits and accelerating when going up, it just isn’t as smooth as my right foot. Overall, when used on the Motorway I do like it but, as others have said, I don’t take it’s braking abilities for granted and I’m always ready to jump on the brake pedal. Going back to the original question, I’ve found it does bring you to a complete stop but a little nudge on the pedal or the ACC stalk is needed to get going if you are stopped more than a few seconds. I road tested a Sportline and it’s a very nice car, I’m sure you will love it.
  16. @ljhoward64 You obviously do a lot more miles than I do but never-the-less, I think you've been unlucky to have these faults in such a short time... I really do like my car, in fact, given the problems with the drivers seat, I'd have probably tried to change it had I not been so happy with everything else.! I have seen mention of wind noise, often associated with the trims (I think?). Perhaps a search on this forum might help... I have the hatch and therefore it isn't a fair comparison but, I find the cabin noise generally to be very muted and certainly not intrusive, even when cruising at illegal figures. The tyres (P7's) can be a little noisy on certain road surfaces, but no more so than other cars I've owned. Just harping back to the drivers seat comfort.... Yesterday I drove into work in complete comfort, it was an absolute joy. If I was to score the seat comfort out of 10 it would have got at least a 9. Within 10 minutes of my drive home I simply HAD to adjust the lumbar support, there was no way I could have completed my 50 minute commute home without being in serious discomfort.! A few tweaks to the lumbar adjustment and it was okay, not perfect, but okay. It is very hard to explain but, when I get the discomfort it is as if the lumbar support isn't spread evenly across the width of the seat, it's like there's a hard bit in the middle pressing into my back. After playing with the adjustment (up/down/in/out) it is as if it evens out for a while and you get that nice even spread of support across the width of your back again. While it lasts the seat it very comfy, it just doesn't last.... I just don't understand. I've been driving for almost 40 years, I've driven quite literally hundreds of cars, and I can honestly say, I've never experienced anything like this before.
  17. @rtj70 I must admit, I've never checked the predicted service interval using the on board computer. I've got the car on a 2yr/30k PCH and in truth, I was hoping the 1st service would be around 15k/12 months but as I said in an earlier post, I'm actually doing a little less mileage than I used to..... I'm sure it'll go up once we start having some better weather.!
  18. @freelunch Like you say, different seats but most likely the same principle. Thanks for your explanation and I think you are spot on, it is the lumbar/backrest adjustment causing the problem.... I'm a little embarrassed to admit that after 9 months I've not found the 'right' combination. So many times I've thought "that's it, cracked it.." only to be disappointed 1/2hr later. Currently my lumbar adjustment is set slightly up from it's lowest position (Pg80 Fig 69c - 5) - (I've set this by finding the position where, when pushed out, it presses into the small of my back), and I've just got a small amount of lumbar support (Pg80 Fig 69c - 6) - (out from being fully in). I could try having the backrest a little more upright as you've suggested? Thanks again... Terry
  19. @freelunch I thought the sportline had different seats, sports seats? When you say broader do you mean 'in' rather than 'out'.... that's a rubbish way to describe it but I can't think of anything better.! I'm guessing you mean the side-pads of the backrest? I don't really notice these move on my seat when I adjust the amount of lumbar support.
  20. @xman I might be wrong but I think the SEL has different seats? Like I said, I seem to be alone in having this particular problem so please don't worry, I'm sure you'll be okay. @penguin17 You are correct, no headlight washers. However, the N/S washer does a pretty good job of cleaning the car behind, I must get around to adjusting it....
  21. I normally do about 15k pa but my wife also got a new car last year and so we've been using hers more than we used to. You might be right about the fuel, I never considered that.! The car hasn't used any oil or water since day one, I've only filled the washer bottle once.! Haha... Have to say, I am really pleased with the car.
  22. I’ve done a little over 10,000 miles in almost exactly 9 months, so I thought this would be a good time to write a quick update. It’s on a variable service schedule and nothing’s popped up to say the 1st service is needed just yet, and so far it’s not used any oil, not a drop.! Over the past couple of months, I’ve noticed that the MPG’s dropped to the high 40’s from being consistently in the low 50’s. I’ve put this down to a change in the weather… more idling time whilst defrosting, traffic moving a little slower, that sort of thing. I always check the MPG tank fill to tank fill so these reading are quite accurate, I find the on-board computer is always a couple of MPG optimistic. The only issue I’ve had is with the comfort of the drivers seat, I’ve mentioned it several times on this forum but seem to be alone in having this particular problem? After approx. 20mins driving I get discomfort at the very bottom of my back, it feels like something hard pressing against me. The seats are Alcantara/Leather and the drivers seat is electric and fully adjustable. I've tried every permutation of lumber adjustment without any real success. My wife has also experienced the discomfort I’ve described when driving, although it tends to take a little longer to manifest itself…. On the few occasions I’ve been a passenger I’ve found the front passenger seat to be very comfy and I have had no issues at all. And that’s it. Despite the issue with the seat I really do like the car. The interior, dashboard and controls are all nicely laid out, there is plenty of room even when carrying four adults, it drives well, it’s fairly quiet and refined (you can hear the engine but it’s never intrusive, I quite like the noise it makes actually), gear changes are almost imperceptible, I’m very happy with 50mpg in mixed driving and in my opinion, it’s a very nice looking car. Just need to come up with a solution for the driver seat…. Terry
  23. Taken from the gov.uk website: You must tax a vehicle you’ve bought before you drive it, or declare it off the road (a SORN). The tax isn’t transferred to you when you buy the vehicle. @neonplanet40 your car looks very nice BTW, hope you enjoy it..!!
  24. I came across this article yesterday and found it quite interesting, so I thought I would share... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-sh/how_toxic_is_your_car_exhaust Terry
