    Hi

Did you get this done and did it cost around £1600?

Thanks I have a Scout as well and think it needs doing on mine.....

Did this on my last Audi. Bypassed the water cooling pipes with 22mm copper pipe and jubilee clips then deleted the egr cooler altogether with blanking plates.

  2. no i haven’t had it done. think i’m going to try to bypass the cooler part with a pipe or hose that will prove that’s my leak problem. just means the egr valve will not be cooled just like on most other diesels. if that works i’m going to remove the unit completely and blank the egr. already been quoted £69 to have the ecu software done when the egr is removed.

  3. i think i have a problem with my egr valve so searched google and youtube. looks like a big job on the tdi cr engine at around £1600 for a dealer. apparently its at the back of the engine at the bottom. drive shaft etc has to come off to gain access to the water cooled egr valve. but this is on the 2.0tdi cr engine ( my octavia vrs engine) not sure what yours is.

  4. hello all. car has a problem. occasionally it struggles to start but goes after 3 or 4 attempts. when it does start i get clouds of white steam from the exhaust. give it some welly and this then clears. then coolant level warning comes on. car will be fine for a day or so and then the same again. i suspect i have an internal coolant leak on the egr valve. has anyone experienced this or know of a common fault that would cause these symptoms? cheers.

Coolant is not compressible so as the pressure rises it must a gas or air that is being compressed to a lower volume.

Best guess is that you have air in the system that needs to be bled out.

Worst case Is that you have gasses getting into the coolant circuit from the head gasket or, perhaps some other part that is coolant cooled- is the EGR valve cooled by coolant or oil? I can't remember.

after doing a combustion gas detector test, it is giving a positive result for possible head gasket leak.

Is it wise or good practice to use an engine flush on oil change!? Never did and if I remember I read/heard some negative stuff about such a practice before........

i feel that in my case it was not a good idea. I have used a draper expert combustion gas detector kit borrowed from a friend. an easy to use piece of kit, but it's telling me i have combustion gases getting into coolant system. which is telling me a possible head gasket problem. i am now thinking that a previous owner may have used an additive to cure a head gasket leak and then me flushing the engine has removed tha additive repair.

  7. hi i own a 2010 (60plate) octavia vrs tdi. which has done 80,000 miles, but the coolant level warning keeps coming on. if i take expansion bottle cap off to release the pressure the coolant level comes back up. after a few miles driving it happens again . temperature does not rise above 90 and it's not boiling up. the oil is clear of sludge and i cannot see any leaks. i only did an engine service on 8th Sept and have had this problem ever since. i did not do anything to the coolant system when servicing the engine. engine oil flush, then oil and filter changed 5w 30 fully synthetic, new fuel filter and air filter. surely it's only coincidental that i have this coolant problem. anyone experienced this or knows of a common reason for it.

    What age is the car?

My 6 month old VRS TDI has just done that. Skoda Assistance came out and said it was common for the coolant level to drop significantly in the first 20K miles as a result of the way it is filled in the factory. He topped it up and ran a  diagnostics and a process that ran through and opened all the valves on the coolant system and reved the engine in a specific way. Been rock solid ever since...

any idea where these bleed valves are? i'm getting the same problem with my 2010 vrs tdi (60 plate) which has just clocked up 80,0000 miles.

Do you know the error codes they got from running the diagnositics?

I hope for your sakes it the pump in the tank, otherwise its a very costly job! My high pressure fuel pump failed on my 2008 CR vRS after going into limp mode a couple of times on a journey - contaminated fuel system (tank, pipes, filters, pumps and injectors) with swarf, in the end i had to replace the full fuel system.

    Thank god for warranty's.

  10. Phone call today.. They have fitted a new pump but were only 98% happy with it. after further investigation they found that the cambelt was a tooth out which was causing the rough running and hesitation on hard excelloration. one of thier other branches in stourbridge changed the cambelt last week as part of the sale before I had the car. Looks like someones in for a telling off. Car should be back at the kidderminster garage for me on Tuesday due to the bank holiday. promised me it would all be re-valetted. just hope they replace any used fuel as I had filled it to the brim with Diesel (£62.75)

  11. Bit of an update. The Sales Manager called me today to say the Skoda dealer said these cars have 2 fuel pumps. the main one and then a smaller one. The diagnostics pointed to the smaller one of the two pumps being lazy so they are replacing it with a new one under warranty. then they will road test the car incase it throws up any other faults. I told him that I had googled the problem and the most common is the exhaust sensor and the DPF. he said that if they are a problem it should throw the code up with the diagnostic check. I will wait to see what they say tomorrow (12/04/2017). To be honest now I think about it I could hear a noise on the car like a pumping sound when it went into limp mode. Hopefully the replacement pump will sort it. car has come with 3 months waranty so i will be back there every day if needs be until its sorted while i still have warranty on it.

  12. Hello all, i have just joined and said my hello's in the hello section so just wanted to tell you about the problem with my new car. I picked it up today from All Electric Garage in Kidderminster and within 20 minutes I was on the phone to the salesman and then took the car back and drove away in a loan car (hyundai i30). So here is the problem i have with the Octavia VRS 2.0TDI CR (60 plate). while driving it home and the fuel saying only a 20 mile range i drove towards the fuel station and as you do, I put my foot down on the dual carriageway and then it happened. low power, glowplug light flashing, engine management light on, car went into limp mode. At first I thought it was because of the very low amount of fuel the car had and drove into the fuel station and filled it up with Diesel (£62.75 at 116.9 a litre). i restarted the car no fault lights showing excellorated in 1st gear (fine) changed up to 2nd and then it happened again just as before. so got home phoned the salesman, took the car back and drove away in the loan car. later on the Sales Manager phoned me to say they had took the car to thier kings heath branch who are a Skoda dealer. Then he said he thinks it is down to fuel contamination and asked where i fuelled the car up. I explained to him that it happened before I filled the car up so that cannot be the problem. so my question to you all is, ANY IDEA what this is before they try and fob me off saying its Tesco diesel thats the problem. I am sure Tesco would have had a few complaints over the day if it was the diesel and it happened before I filled up anyway. Hope I havent bought a dodgey motor here I was so looking forward to my VRS. It's the newest car I have owned, well for20 minutes anyway.

  13. Hello all.

Picked up my 1st ever Skoda today from All Electric Garages in Kidderminster. Octavia VRS 2.0 TDi CR. 2010 (60 plate) newest car I have ever owned. It has gleaming white paintwork, FSH, new cambelt fitted for me so should all be good. but not so good because after 20 minutes of owning it, the car had to go back, but I'll talk more on the problem in another post in the correct section. So just thought I say hello to you all and hope I find this forum as helpfull and fun as others I have been on for other brands of cars I have owned. Oh just thought I'd mention I'm a Baggies fan as well for those of you who follow football.
