  1. Hi everyone, I hope you've all been well during these turbulent times. Hopefully you're all still enjoying your cards avoid of any issues. I had to book my Fabia's first MOT today for the end of September - it will be interesting to see if the modifications I've made will pass. Would any of you have any experience with MOT centres and lowered cars, if so, is there ever an issue? Aside from MOT, I'm currently looking for replacement mudflaps - would any of you know where I could get hold of a good set? I'd love to see any new modifications/additions you guys have made - I got myself a new set of wheels last June, not something I normally go for but I love them to bits. Smaller than my last set at 15 or 16" I believe, they sit a little bit out from the wheel arch which I love too. Unfortunately, similar to my last set of diamond cut alloys, they've succumbed to corrosion despite the application of a ceramic coating before fitting. I live in a seaside town, this is perhaps why this happens! Best, Cody
  2. Sorry to see there's been more people affected by a similar issue. It's important to be thankful that nobody has been hurt thusfar, hopefully never will. I unfortunately just have three images of the bolt and they aren't great. I can't remember if I posted these at the time but hopefully it helps. I forgot to ask my mechanic which replacement he purchased and its probably too late now. But I do remember him saying it was probably due to them being drilled too tightly.
  3. They're definitely not something I'd normally go for, but they're growing on me massively. I was debating about getting black/dark alloys this time but felt I wanted something that would pop when it's clean lol. As for the offset, these are slightly poking but I like that look. Curious to see the wheels you have right now!
  4. Cheers Gonzales, I haven't noticed as much rubbing but that may be due to me driving extra careful to keep these in good condition lol! I watched a couple of videos from guys called 'Fitment Industries' and used their logic to choose a suitable tyre stretch. I'm technically on a Stage 2 stretch which is probably as far as I'd go. Basically worked out that the baseline is the width of the alloy, around 205mm and then 195 would be a stage 1, 185 being stage 2 and 175 stage 3. I think the height of the sidewall can offset this slightly though, I just wanted a bit more between me and the road this time around. Previous wheels were 40, these are 50 I believe! Last summer I got ST-X coilovers fitted, the Eibach springs done the job but they weren't as low as I would've liked. Funnily enough, the coilovers are currently at their lowest setting and it isn't as low as some may like but it's a good balance between looks and functionality; I don't want to worry about destroying my car for the stanced look! That's the main reason I was looking into Airlift Suspension, but it's too expensive for me currently.
  5. Thank you mate, definitely looks nice on a European car! Hoping the taller sidewall will help avoid scuffs on bad roads, but I think it's just something that is going to happen. You got a picture of yours? I'm curious!
  6. Hi guys, got the new wheels fitted. Quite happy with how they turned out! I ended up going against @FabiaGonzales recommendation for tyre size, opting for a more 'stretched' look. 185/50 to be exact! Love how the colour matches the colour of the paint almost perfectly, also that they don't look too much smaller in comparison to my last set which were 17". I think the larger tyre wall helps with that! I applied some Gtechniq C5 to the alloys before tyre fitting so hopefully they'll keep the dirt off for a while, gonna have to be extra careful this time around - I embarrassingly kerbed my last alloys and corrosion set in.
  7. You're a legend mate. I think I had already confirmed the 8J, but your comment has reinforced a little bit more confidence. The recommendations for tyres are brilliant too, thank you for including that. Hopefully have a picture up of the new wheels soon!
  8. Hi guys, just a question here for anybody who is savvy with wheels. If any of you remember I purchased a set 2 years ago, but I'm looking for a change. Currently, the wheels are 17" in diameter, 8" wide and have an offset of 33. After inspecting it quickly they seem quite close to the suspension, the only reason I checked is because I'm looking at wheels with 16" in diameter, 9" wide and have an offset of 20 so I thought it might not fit properly. If anyone could help that would be massively appreciated, maths isn't my strong point lol!
  9. Don't worry, I've been following him for quite a while now. Think he's changing to an Octavia VRS! I personally like how it looks from the back, as for the airbags I just want them for the ease of mind. I want the car low but I don't want to be worried when in precarious lowered car situations lol!
  10. That makes complete sense, thanks for that @steslatt!
  11. Hi everyone, hope you're all well in these strange times! I think I'm going to keep the Skoda Fabia and use the extra money I would've spent on an Audi TT for air suspension! Aside from that though, I got an email recently to say my warranty was coming to an end and I could pay to continue it. However, I'm not sure if it's worth it as I've modified the car. Am I right in thinking this way? I'm under the impression that any sort of modification invalidates your warranty. Hope you guys can shed some light on this!
  12. @Fab1493 yes I had it on Autotrader, no interest on it whatsoever. Been torn on selling it as I love the car and the memories attached to it. This virus situation has made me put that on the back burner for now though, still part of the Skoda Squad lol!
  13. Brilliant, I'm glad you said to them about other owners having similar issues. We may be out of pocket as a result but hopefully it uncovers an issue that could potential injure someone, rendering the occurrence highly unlikely. As I said before, please do keep us informed of the outcome.
  14. I can't remember off the top of my head, sorry mate. There seems to be more of a stretch on them than the stock 17" Skoda alloys, which looks nicer in my opinion. As for rubbing, I didn't have any issues with that until I got my coilovers, it sometimes rubs when I'm going around a corner with someone in the passenger seat. But I'd say that's more down to the coilovers than the tyres/alloys. Thanks for the compliment, I've been thinking of selling my Fabia, alloys and all but I love it so much lol!
  15. I hope the forum has helped mate. I personally used to underestimate the power of sites like this, it's incredibly reassuring at times to be able to speak to people who have been in your shoes, being able to provide some insight. You done the right thing and contacted Skoda, I should've done the same! Live and learn as they say.
