  1. Hi all

In a bit of a dilemma, I have a scorpion resonated cat back exhaust system installed on my octavia vrs, the exhaust is great but the exhaust tips just dont look right from behind with the fake covers. Any of you know where you can get some custom tips for it ? Many thanks

    The HJS 200 cell sports cat is built into the 3" downpipe, intercooler plus full stainless 3" exhaust (Milltek on mine) plus Airtec cone air filter. I only paid £120 for stage 2 remap as AmD supplied and fitted all the hardware at the same time so breakdown from memory was;

    Exhaust £1,200

    Downpipe £600

    Intercooler (Airtec) £600

    Airtec air filter £300

    Stage 2 remap £120.

All prices include fitting and VAT (20%)

My car is already stage one with just cat-back exhaust and sounds pretty sweet. Stage 1 is surprisingly fast, catches alot of cars out! Do you think stage 2 is worth investing into or should I just get an induction kit and be done. So hard to decide 🙈🙈

Yeah after 2 track days and 29,000 miles when I sold it last December the clutch was  fine no slip at all despite having to deal with 517nm (380lb/ft) at 2,600rpm. Wheelspin in the wet in 3rd at 77mph wasn't much fun hence my switch to 4WD and no wheelspin in 9 months now so very

Sounds good 👍 so am I right in saying that all that is required for stage 2 is downpipe, induction kit and sports cat?

Ant would like to thank you for inspiring me to take my car to stage 2 like I hinted back in April and the big day finally arrives on 23rd October so will let you know what it makes and post a graph. Exciting times ahead just hope my standard clutch can take it! Enjoy your car and will hope to get to meet you at sometime in the future, happy motoring.B)

Thinking of taking mine to stage 2, how did the clucth hold up?

If anything with the exhaust filtration system is messed with, it will affect the emissions regardless of whether it's had a remap or not. As said above, if the test thinks any of it has been messed with, it's a fail. It's similar to people who hollow out their DPF's to try and make it appear they're still fitted. They're wise to that one. Whilst it's not illegal to remove such gear, I've seen a few people on other sites who've been fined by VOSA because they're driving on a public road without them fitted and it's been obvious they're driving a car which should have a DPF because of the smoke being emitted.

For the sake of a few potential extra horsepower, I wouldn't bother the hassle of attempting to get your car to pass it's MOT and running the risk of having your collar felt with running a decat.

Think I may just go ahead with the down pipe on it's own then. Just want to get the car ready for stage 2! As already at stage 1. Many thanks

Looks really good, did you change the struts and dampers too suit the new springs?

I would go with Eibach Sportline, my MY16 RS sedan sits nicely with them, not too low but like you wanted it filled the arch. You will also notice a good upgrade in how the car leans in corners, it feels a lot more stable, ive had them under now for approx 6 months and 30tkm and been really happy with the quality of them.

Is it a good idea to just change the springs? Or would you recommend changing the dampers and struts too?

How is the new exhaust note?

Im getting close to a Stage 1 map, but need some sound to go with it.

Actually test drive a Superb 280 the other day, goes well, but silent!

Felt more at home in the 230, just needs a bit more power and volume.

Tbh the 230 is much more enjoyable, I think the 280 superb has the same internals as the s3, golf r's but with a stage 1 the vrs is more than capable at keeping up or if not quicker

Looks good, are you happy with it

Yeah i am! Massive difference. Its what the car needed! The stock exhaust is just so bad. Gives it a lovely tone and because resonated, no drone at all. The exhaust itself is really good quality and then mechanic was really impressed with it

Agree with Alex's post above, I think putting skirts and splitters on a non-lowered car looks a bit daft as you still have this big arch gap to fill. But each to their own, modifying is all personal preference 👍

CreamvRS's motor looks sweet, best looking VR wagon out there IMO, it should provide a good idea of how they look with maxton skirts and splitters:

The car was fresh of the jacks in that picture, I have taken it for a drive to today and sitting right now! I quite like the idea of getting it lowered? Whats involved with that and how much by?? Replacing the diffuser and painting the tips next

They look great. I'll be doing the same to my extremes when the diamond cut finish inevitably corrodes.

It does look high though, had you just lowered it off the jack?!

Yeah hasn't been driven since done! Will take for drive today to see 👍

You're lucky - first time I've been back on here in about 2-3 weeks 😉 (plus it pinged me an email, which helps).

Sounds like a great setup. I've always rated Scorpion for their quality, support, information and consistency in service. The downpipe is an excellent addition - maybe minor gains in noise and performance, but it 'feels' better than 'not having it' (as it would always in the back of my mind otherwise)!

I'm same - Pre-FL 230 with Stage 1 tune from RacingLine + mods (see my silly signature below), and the exhaust made me fall more in love with the car's setup.

Best of luck with fitment and the final outcome! Let us know what you think and how you find it. Will take a bit of time to bed-in (e.g. 1000 miles or so?), but it's absolutely excellent IMHO 😍

Thats good 👍 its getting fitted straight away so as soon as its on I'll post some videos!

Been contemplating getting the r600 induction kit aswell but after trolling through the web I have decided against 🤣 I may just put a panel filter in there instead as a lot of people say the OEM air box is pretty solid up to 400hp! Takes me such a long time to choose stuff I'm so fussy 🙈

In my experience, yes - but then I think anything would make a noticeable difference to the stock 'silence'. I presume you've gone cat-back (no downpipe)? It definitely makes a much deeper, louder note than the original, whilst being pleasant both internally and externally.

Non-res WAS obnoxious (for longer periods than 10mins in daily driving) both internally and I probably externally. It was fun 'blatting' around in underground car parks at low speed, but ear-bleeding on motorway trips. The issue is that the Octavias (and I presume Skodas in general) tend to have a lot less sound-deadening than other VAG marques, so the increase in NVH is much steeper when swapping exhausts.

I hope you'll be pleased with the new setup, it literally changed the character of my car overnight (and in a good way... after I'd got the resonated version 😅)

Wow thanks for the quick reply, was a bit dubious 🤣

Yeah i went for the cat back resonated, I just know if I went Non-res it would drive me up the wall 😑 ( I get the attraction though ) I have a stage 1 tune so hopefully will go hand in hand. Doesn't help my partners TT has a nice exhaust.

In the near future I will defiantly be looking at getting the down pipe

Although they may have changed a bit, but in the early 2000s I had an EP3 Civic Type R with a resonated Scorpion exhaust. It gave a lovely rumble at tickover and a good sound at speed. It was not however boomy or intrusively too loud. I would certainly get one again. Very good quality as well.

Hope so! Ill post some sound videos once installed. Expected to arrive in 10 days 😁

Fast and quiet is one thing, fast and pretty much silent as modern vRS are is another thing entirely. It was probably my biggest disappointment moving my old Mk2 Prefacelift to my 245, complete loss of any noise from the exhaust.

I don't understand why they didn't give it a bit more noise being a performance car

What are you basing this comment on re: Remus vs. Scorpion? (Out of interest, not being snarky :) )

I have a full turbo-back Scorpion system myself, which I've had both non-resonated (loud!) and now resonated. Both setups pushed more vibrations in the car but was minimal over OEM - does depend on how much vibration we're talking, though.

New exhausts will take time to bed in, 1000-2000 miles being about right (certainly for my setup anyway) - and now it works a dream. The MkIII Octys have minimal soundproofing, so any minor increase in noise - such as a larger diameter exhaust - will increase felt vibration anyway.

Sorry old post, does the resonated scorpion exhaust make a huge difference to stock? I've ordered it and waiting for delivery. Was contemplating the non-res but felt I would really regret it
