  1. Wondering if anyone knows if you can order the black plastic trim that goes around my right door mirror? As you can see in the pic it's cracked, I'm unsure if it can be pryed loose then a new one clipped back on again. Or if you need to buy a whole new right door mirror? If anyone even knows the part number or where I can order it that would be brilliant. Thanks
  2. **UPDATE** Managed to get this fixed and engine management light has went out on the dash. The problem was the solenoid valve, in slot 2 the earth wasn't getting a good enough connection to complete the circuit and was slightly out the hole. I pushed this in all the way in and problem solved. If anybody gets the same fault I'd check the connections first and if that doesn't work try replacing the solenoid valve completely, only costs about £20 to get a replacement.
  3. I had the same issue and managed to fix it doing this
  4. Quick update on this as managed to solve the issue. Put some Dipetane in the fuel tank and gave it an "Italian tune up" once the car got to operating temperature. Diesel smell completely gone and car running even better now. I suspect there was carbon build up around the fuel injectors causing the smell to come through the vents. The Dipetane has burnt this off & gave it a complete clean up.
  5. Thanks Langers managed to find it just under the steering column
  6. Does anyone know where the location is of the OBDII port?Cant find it to plug in a code reader, thanks
  7. Wondering if anyone has had this issue before with their 1.6TDI diesel Rapid or can help please? The engine management light has come on the dash but hasnt went into "limp mode" and there is no performance issues. The AA managed to clear the fault but it's now come on again after 20mins. The mechanic was unsure what the fault could be and suggested I take the car to a garage. I had my EGR valve only replaced a year ago so dont know if its related. The fault code on his terminal is this if it helps.
  8. The build quality is good as everything is screwed together well and the swtich gear is high quality and wont break. It's a pretty solid built car all round. The parts fitted must be of a decent quality cause I havent had to replace things like sensors, drop links, etc ever & we are talking about a 7 year old car that's used daily. The paint work is robust too, its a hard paint and not easily scratched. Equipment wise may be a bit dated now but I have a USB port, Air Con, Rear Parking Sensors & Bluetooth to connect my mobile so its enough for me and really what else do you need maybe sat nav? The ride can be a bit jittery over uneven roads, not too noticeable but its definitely better sitting on the motorway that's for sure. The space cant be beaten for what you pay in its class, boot is massive and passengers will be very comfortable. The seats are firm but very comfortable for going long distances. MPG is really good & I manage an average of 55MPG on short and motorway driving. Parts are common so cheap to source and tyre size very common so not expensive either. If you get the right one I would say go for it.
  9. Going by personal experience i'd say buy a Rapid with caution & dont get a diesel rapid if you are planning on doing short journeys or the DPF will be toast. I used to use mines for motorway travelling 40 miles everyday which was fine but more recently it's just short journeys now & that's when the problems started. I also think it's because the car is getting older along with the filter, it's a 2013 with 89,000 on the clock. The car is also meant to run worse if you have the EA189 update installed but I have never had this. Heres a thread I replied to on the issues I've had during ownership and 2 repairs have been major and costly
  10. I have 2 issues if anyone could help please. I have a smell of diesel coming through the front vents when I turn them on. I had the ERG valve fitted not long ago so dont know if this is connected or totally unrelated. I also have an issue with my fog lights at the front. When I'm driving the one on the passenger side comes on and off at different times and totally random. Seems to come on when I put the car in reverse or put the clutch down but might be wrong on that cause its hard to tell. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
  11. Another update as I had the same issue with my DPF yet again. Same problem, DPF light staying on & wouldnt go off after a 40min motorway drive at 70mph to try and clear it. (I must admit I drove it the next day on a short journey with the DPF light still on which didnt help) I purchased Wynns Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner & put this in the fuel tank first then filled it to the brim with diesel. Took it for a drive on the motorway in 4th gear around 55/60MPH to keep the revs high at around 2000/5000 revs to burn off any remaining soot and this eventually fixed the issue and the light went off after 30mins. Havent had any issues since and the car actually feels like it runs better. Dont know what's in this stuff but must be really strong cause it cleared the issue without needing a forced regen at a garage. Here is a link to the stuff that fixed the problem for me. https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/wynns-diesel-particulate-filter-cleaner-325-ml-555770340?gclid=CjwKCAjwjLD4BRAiEiwAg5NBFln0lMW49N2Pt-gzGfmI1FqFTqu9JMaufLLJNW9yxGkr8KRQApTVqBoCdBQQAvD_BwE
  12. I had exactly the same problem and was more noticeable going over speed bumps. Turned out to be a hairline crack in one of the front coil springs & you would never have noticed it as no uneven wear on the tyres or the wing dropping down & no noise pushing down on the car. I would jack the car up from the side the noise is coming from and get someone to wriggle the steering from side to side while you listen and have a look under the wheel arch to try and rule out problems with springs, cv joints etc.
  13. Welcome to the world of owning a 1.6 TDI engine I'm afraid. Only last week I had the change the EGR valve and it was a costly repair. Also had issues with the DPF aswell and other issues with a total gearbox failure, again very costly. As camelspyyer says better off with a petrol as there is less parts to go wrong but appreciate you have just brought the car. As for things going wrong further down the line I would budget for potential costly repairs if you are planning to keep the car for a while going with my experience owing one. I know a few people who have had Rapids as taxis and never had any problems. But they aren't really living with them so to speak, trade ins after only a few years and only putting about 50k on the clock at best.
  14. I mostly do motorway driving and yeah your right I have to set cruise control at 50mph. This must be the sweet spot for the 1.6 TDI & returns 70mpg. If I go above 50mph even slightly then it drops to around 60mpg due to the engine working harder at higher revs. I've had it up to 80mpg once but again the car has got to sit at 50mph & driving for a long period on the motorway but it can be done. The Rapid is a good car if you can find the right one without issues, personally if I had the choice again I would go with the petrol versions. And as you say the luggage space and cost of the Rapid is a plus & hard to beat in its class. The DPF is a concern as I've started to see issues with it and it's starting to regen more than it ever did before. Recently the DPF light came on the dash & wouldnt go off. Had to get the garage to reset it to clear the fault but hopefully wont fail completely which will be costly. Heres hoping I can get some more years use out of it as I do take care of my Rapid and get it serviced every 10k 👍
