  1. Thanks . The only time I go to the stealers is when the cars under warranty or for a recall! My independent family run garage are invested in the quality of their work and have always been reasonable on price. Thanks. Gives some reassurance
  2. Thanks @PetrolDave 2. I couldn’t find much on Skodas site and as you suggest there’s split opinions on googling it!! I tend to take the pro-active approach with servicing my cars so will probably get it done now.
  3. have the 1.4 mk3 Octavia estate. 2018 - 5 years old and 28k miles on clock. 1. does the 1.4 petrol engine have a timing belt or chain 2. if belt when does it need changing? Is it mileage or years? 3. When does the DSG need a service? thanks in advance
  4. My central locking has been very erratic this last 6 months. I’ll unlock the doors and then it would lock itself again a few seconds later. At first it was occasional but then became very frequent so I have been careful not to put my keys down in the car when loading etc. BUT weirdly this issue has ceased over the winter cold spell. To me this suggests a capacitor is not discharging properly and the cold has reset it. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a module that needs replacing somewhere?
  5. That’s good it showed the error especially with warranty making it difficult without. Bit of a disgrace really as the issue is well known to Skoda/VW so they’re just trying to get out of it. I didn’t get the orange steering wheel. Just the orange triangle!! Before and after pics
  6. Mine was intermittent for ages but then became permanent. I carried in using it anyway without any issues. Just have to take care you don’t leave the car in D or R when you park up as you can turn the ignition off and remove the key in this position! Mine was out of warranty and I didn’t fancy paying the stealers £300+ to sort it hence I bought the part myself. If you’re handy with a screwdriver it’s an easy fix.
  7. As I understand it the switch is in the depths of the gearbox and a nightmare to fix so VAG made the mod to save on warranty costs.
  8. I managed to fix this myself. 2018 (67) Octavia with 25k. I’ve been driving it a year with the error- doesn’t cause any issues other than the irritating ping and engine light but as I want to swap cars soon I thought I’d get it sorted. Removing the console cover is easy as just pull the gear knob cover up and then the panel underneath to expose the top of the gearbox. Mine was black so I ordered part 5Q0713128A. If it’s white it’s part 3Q0713128A. There is one horizontal torx screw that needs to be removed - (I’ve drawn an arrow where it is) - to access normally mean removing all the central console which was going to be a right pain so I drilled a small 5 mm to the left side in line with the screw and inserted long torx driver to reach the screw. Wiring is pretty straightforward- it’s just a bypass cable. As per 2nd pic the switch fits on top of the gearbox - the one screw removed needs to go back in once the new switch is in place and holds it i with some additional clips to use once happy with the position. Then there’s a torx on top to adjust the contact so the stick is snug against the micro switch. I thought maybe I’d not fitted it correctlyas the error still came up but a quick drive around the block cleared it. Note: before fitting I did tape up the stick hole to ensure I didn’t drop anything into it. Picture of switch mounted
  9. Yeah. I defo feel reassured after the various responses :-)
  10. Agreed, probs best to go directly to skoda next time. The GG40 meets Vw's TL 774-J spec. Thanks for the reassurance also. Reading up it appears G13 is backward compatible with G12 but can loose some of the anti corrosion properties if mixed. Mine should always have been G13 as a 63 plate.
  11. Having done some googling it appears that Comma GG40 is effectively the same as G13. Comma G40 is same as G12++ Comma G30 - G12/12+
  12. Thanks. I won't tamper anymore! You don't see an issue with a mix of the GG40 (which is VW TL 774-J approved) and the existing, I assume g12/13? I used about 250ml of the gg40
  13. Thanks Brett Is the comma stuff not recommended by VW/skoda? The gg40 was the one referenced by Halfords when I put in my registration hence I went with that. It does seem to be a fairly new type, only released in 2015 but according to the blurb it is approved for the whole vag group including Bentley and Lamborghini's though I do get your point about mixing. Hard not too as I don't know what brand or g no is currently in there. At maximum I've only put in 250ml so only about 5% if you say it's 5 litres in total, so in theory that shouldn't be too intense........
  14. Awayoffski - are you saying mark it after a few runs and when cooled down? I guess it fluctuates quite a lot between hot and cold with expansion and all that. I've a few good runs this weekend so will monitor
  15. I topped up to the max line. Do I need to drain a tiny amount?
