  1. Thanks for the reply, quite surprising the lack of transferability given I'm used to taking old parts from everything else in the vag group!
  2. Hi, I have a 2005 MK1 1.2 Skoda Fabia that needs scrapping. My friend has a 2008 MK2 1.4 estate that doesn't need scrapping We're going to take the good bits off mine before it goes to the scrap man - is there anything that doesn't match that we'll (besides the obvious) Specifically, will we be able to remove the front exhaust inc cat and flexi and pop it over (his has a hole which is an expensive fix) ? Mine has a new battery and new discs and pads, assuming these are fine to swap/use as spares also? Cheers Will
  3. I'm so sorry Wino I've just realised how my description made it sound. The problem is intermittent. When the wipers work, the intermittent wipers also work fine. I'm now wondering whether it's dirty contacts or something.
  4. Even more bafflingly, I just started the vehicle and the wipers now work, including on the intermittent setting. This is the worst kind of issue!
  5. I've found it - pic attached. Does I need to essentially unplug everything and pull it out? Whilst I was in there I noticed a lot of condensation on everything. Beginning to think this might be the beginning f the end for the vehicle!
  6. Cheers wino. Do you happen to have any pics of where it actually is located? Pretty confident I (or an electrical engineering friend!) could swap the relay but I'm not sure how to get it out (pics seem to have gone from your original link)
  7. Cheers wino I've just tried looking for it but is covered with dash. How "plug and play" is the entire unit? Is it feasible to take the board with the relay from an old scrapped car and just slot the whole thing in?
  8. Err, no. The car doesn't have electric windows or an electric lock nevermind "intelligent" anything! Wino I'm .... Probably not that handy. I'll have a look
  9. I'm currently coming up to 160k, engine is fine! As mentioned, servicing important.
  10. Hi, Skoda Fabia MK1 1.2 petrol 2005 I have an intermittent wiper issue - getting the vehicle back on the road after two months sat on drive (just replaced the battery with a new one) Wipers seem to come on when they please. Checked the fuses and both are fine, my bonnet catch I think is one of the standard ones with no switch (it has no wires leading to it and is mechanical) The wipers very occasionally come on, and work fine, but then I'll go out the next day and nothing. The rear wiper works fine as does the washer fluid, as does the trip counter/computer on the stick. Am I looking at a problem with the stick (I hope not as removing the airbag looks a pain in the arse) or could they be another component I haven't thought of?
  11. Definitely. In my defense it was an £800 car 5 years ago so anything over £200 and it's getting scrapped. However if anyone is reading this my advice would be to get a garage to do it! Or at the very least ensure you have the right part by making sure the disc fits over it first, and use the proper half moon bearing puller tool!
  12. Yes it needed the entire thing taking off and pressing in with a press. Then the hub face, which was too large for the disc to fit over (wrong part from europarts I suspect), was ground down to fit. Other things that were a massive hassle included unplugging the ABS
  13. An update: it was the bearing, and it was (predictably) a massive pain in the a*** to replace. Whilst I had the hub off (!) We took the time to replace the disks and pads too.
  14. It's coming front the front left. Might try jacking it up and turning them?
  15. I have a persistent wheel noise that increases with speed but is intermittent - like a swish swish swish faster and faster until at 70 it sounds like a low drone. At first, I considered this to be a bearing but when on a jack the wheel has no play in it and is fairly solid, and at low speeds the noise is not constant. Before I spend some considerable time and back breaking labour replacing my own bearing, is there anything else it could be? The noise sounds no different on breaking. The car is old with high mileage but reasonably well looked after. The noise doesn't change when turning corners but the steering wheel does vibrate slightly (although I did put this down to just being old...) Could it be disks, pad, or calipers and is there any "quick tests" I can do without getting it up on a ramp?
