Hello Mate, not on here often as you know but as you are one of the good guys on here will share a little ...
Snooker, well fell in love with it when I was about 15, brushed and ironed tables at my local snooker club for free table time
and played way too many hours, truancy from school saw me reach a good standard, first player to make a century in the Phoenix Club
League (Wokingham Berks).
As for the original question, it doesn't matter, with regards to what make or how much you spend on a cue, just play with one, get a feel for
it and look after it.
Typicaly it will be 57" long, weight and type of wood is here or there, maple, ash, whatever, just find one that feels right and go with it.
Get a good case and look after it, you've a choice of tip sizes, around 10mm is good, when re-tipping, buy bigger and reshape to suite.
You can go smaller for tip size (ferrule diameter) John Spencer played with a 7.5mm tip, great for crazy screw shots but anything less than
great cueing will mean no control. Weight? between 16 and 18 oz, it wont matter, find one you like, again stick with it, what you dont know you
won't miss.
Practice, practice and practice!!
Sadly my love of the game left me about a year ago, not played since, is a great game though. Never made a 147 but made a 128 a long time ago,
if you can practice against better players, do so, it's at times demoralising but it makes you make the best of oppurtunities, playing worse players to flatter yourself makes you a worse player. Watch players that inspire you, for me it was Jimmy White, more recently Ronnie, and now that passes
on to Judd Trump.
Hope That Helps
