  1. I have a 57 Plate 1.2 HTP Fabia (BBM Engine) - milage is high 147000 - but has a full service history and has been well maintained all of it's life. It has a misfire on cylinder 2 - the misfire seems to be intermittent - and it will happily rev at 3 to 4 thousand without any knocking or strange noises However the ECU flashes an error (16686 - misfire in cylinder 2) and from that point the car will not get above about 1800 revs it shudders badly and cylinder 2 seems to have been shut off (removing the connector from the coil pack does not change the way the engine behaves) If I delete the error and restart the engine it will go back to 3 to 4 thousand revs until the engine light starts flashing again. I have tried changing the coil packs round and have fitted new plugs. Can the ECU switch off a cylinder either by cutting power to the coil pack or to the injector? Sorry if these seem silly questions but I am new to this - the last time I worked on an engine it had a carb and distributor and no ECU! I have asked garages locally to look at the car - but they just say (without ever looking at the car) it would be an engine rebuild - cost is more than the car is worth - we don't do major jobs like that- just scrap it - . But it is in lovely condition apart from this problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
  2. Four weeks ago I traded my Skoda Fabia Saloon in with a Skoda Dealer and I have really regretted it and would love to be able to buy it back. I asked the dealer and they said they had put it through a Dealer Auction - can't get any more info due to GDPR It is not showing up as either taxed or insured - so hoping someone purchased it to sell on. It was Nature Green and its reg is PN02ZXP - it is a 1.4 16 valve If anyone sees it for sale anywhere please could they message me ( I think it was auctioned at British Car Auctions Bedford Branch) Thanks
  3. We were assured that a change of manager meant that Progress Skoda Bedford had changed and was now much better with customer care. Four weeks ago we went in - had a very positive experience and agreed to have a 15 plate Citigo. Three weeks ago today we picked the car up - the staff were very nice and we felt pleased with the experience. When we got home we found the car had neither an inflation system or a spare wheel at the back it also had the PID missing (the stalk was present) We contacted them and they promised to look into it and get back to us - of course they didn't! After many phone calls we were asked which we would prefer an inflation kit or spare wheel, we said the wheel and they promised to order one. No-body had asked about the PID Several phone calls later the wheel had not been ordered - was promised would be straight away. No call back from them as promised - now told on back order - very hard to get hold of - yet there are Skoda dealers selling the wheels on ebay! Also noticed the DRLs were not working - thought maybe they had been switched off or the fuse removed. First time I drove in the dark side light didn't work. Both bulbs had gone and by the state of them had been gone for some time - yet the car passed it's first MOT just before we had it and sidelights have always been a part of the MOT and DRLs have been since May (where fitted). Still waiting for them to get the wheel three weeks after having the car. I wouldn't mind if they gave the impression that they cared - but they fob you off with a "we'll call you back" and they never do. Would not recommend anyone looking for a used or new Skoda to deal with Progress Bedford.
  4. The garage used to be a Skoda dealer until Skoda decided they only wanted the posh large dealerships - but they were dealers from the early eighties until about 2008 - since then have been Skoda specialists The car mostly does short journeys in the week - but does do longer ones at the weekend. The EML first came back on when doing 70 on the local bypass Some people have said there is a hose linked to the EGR that can leak - do you think this could be so? Thanks
  5. I have a 2002 Skoda Fabia 1.4 16 valve saloon. For a number a weeks the EML was on and the local Skoda garage told me it was the EGR valve - they said it was stuck open. I had to wait until the end of last month when I was paid and had a new EGR valve fitted - it was not a cheap one it was a proper Skoda one. When I picked the car up it drove perfectly - after about 10 miles the EML came on and it was error 16786 - EGR flow excessive. I cleared the error and the car began to run really rough - often stalling. I ran it for about another 10 miles and the EML came back on - once the EML was on the car ran perfectly - all the stalling and rough idle had vanished. This evening I erased the error again and the car is once again running really rough and stalling. It never did this if the error was cleared before the EGR valve was replaced - it would just run normally for 10 to 15 miles and then the EML would come back on. Is it likely to be a faulty EGR valve or could something else be causing the problem? I don't understand why it is running roughly until the EML comes on and then it runs O.K. Obviously will take it back to the garage - but cannot do that for a few weeks due to work commitments - just wondered if it could be anything simple that I could tackle Thanks
  6. Does anyone know if it is possible to change the door locks in a mark 1 Fabia Comfort from central locking ones to manual locking ones. My car has central locking which only works 1 in 20 times and I am not sure if it is the locks or wear in the wiring loom - would much prefer to remove the central locking and go back to manual locks like I used to have on my Felicia I have read that classic cars without the electric pack had manual doors - is it possible to change my central locking locks for manual ones Thanks
  7. There is a lot more to having the air bag than just changing the steering wheel - you need to have all the other bits and if it isn't fitted professionally you could have the danger of it going off when it isn't meant to. Also cars with airbags have seat belts that automatically tighten on impact as well (forgotten what they are called) but without these an airbag could be dangerous in a crash - does your car have these seat belts fitted?
  8. Very Poor Customer Service Had an invitation from them for a VIP event about three weeks ago (the event was last weekend) The invitation said to reply via the internet which I did and I got a page telling me I had successfully registered and a VIP pack would be sent to me in the post and a time would be e-mailed to me. I heard nothing. The Thursday before the event they phoned us up and said did you receive a VIP invitation and we explained we had done the registration on line - they said they had problems with the booking system, but not to worry they would post a pack that day and e-mail a time for Sunday. Nothing arrived either by post or e-mail. Sunday morning we called them and they said - very sorry but just come at 2pm and we will see you then. We arrived at 2pm the girl on the door said your name isn't on the list - have a look round and I'll see if I can find someone to talk to you. 15 minutes later she came back to us and said give me your e-mail address and I'll e-mail a stock list to you - here is a contact card and basically showed us the door. When I got home I phoned and asked to speak to the manager - who was apologetic, said he had a car in stock he thought would suit me and could I come straight back to chat to him. Having wasted nearly two hours and with other things to do I told him I could not do that and could I come in today. He agreed and said he had made me an appointment for 9:30am He sent me an e-mail with details of the car he thought would suit me and said either he or his senior sales man Karl would be waiting for us on Saturday. On Thursday I had an e-mail to say the car he was thinking of had been sold but not to worry because there were lots more in group stock, so still come in and have a chat. I arrived 9:30 today and the girl on reception knew nothing about us having an appointment. She said the manager was busy with a customer and would go and fetch Karl. Karl came and said he knew nothing about us and would check with the manager - he was quite rude to my wife at one point. He returned and took us over another sales assistant to deal with us. At no point did the manager come and speak to us or apologise for double booking himself. We then had to go all the way through again what we were after and our details. This assistant was very pleasant - but we left feeling that they were not really interested in helping us upgrade our Skoda and that we were not at all important customers to them. I have driven Skoda since 1986 and when the old fashioned dealers closed we moved to Progress. Our current main fabia came from them and both of cars are serviced and MOT'd by them so we are regular customers of them. I am now seriously thinking of changing brand and looking for a dealer who does have respect and manners towards their customers and when they make an appointment will actually keep it.
  9. Should have some Favorit headlights in the shed from when I broke a couple for parts last year. Will see if I can find them at the weekend. If I can find them welcome to have them for this car.
  10. This is the cable - you can see my crude attempts to cover the damage with brown electrical tape. The cable had been trapped under the air intake unit and was under strain so some of the wires had also com lose from the big connector. Have got those back in but would really like another cable if possible due to the damage where all the tape now is
  11. This is an electric cable which passes behind the air intake box and connects to two plug blocks at the top right hand side of the engine
  12. Got a felicia a couple of weeks ago ( V reg 1.3 mph) ad have been having problems with the accelerator pedal sometimes having no effect. Had a look today and found a cable trapped under the plastic air intake where it is bolted to the engine. The cable was both stretched and had some damage to its outer casing. I have put electrical tape around it and pushed the wires firmly into the plug block at the top right of the engine routed the wire to what looked like the correct path ( as there was an empty cable support there) and the accelerator now seems to be working fine. I would prefer a long term more reliable fix so is it easy to change the whole cable for a good second hand one? It looks like it goes to just two plug blocks at the top right of the engine but I don't know where it connects at the other end or if it is part of a much larger wiring loom. Hoping it is an easy fix Thanks
  13. Why does it have a different colour front panel which looks like the wrong one for the age of the car as it looks like an injector model type front panel from 1993 onwards?
