  1. Thanks. I tried it. When rocking the wheels as you described that bushing / pin doesn't move at all on either of the sides. And I don't think its any play in the steering ball joint neither. When the steering wheel is locked you can rock it a little, but the klonk-sound comes from firther inside, steering gear..? so I think those are nice. I also tested prying the control arm bushing on the opposite side the same way as the first one, and it was more solid.. But still as you said, it doesn't move much. When comparing with ppl on youtube that replace the bushing, mine still looks OK.

  4. Hi all. I have recently bought a Fabia MK1, which has not been maintained very well by its previous owner. I got it cheap as it didn't pass inspection (due to the handbrake, but that is fixed). I thought it could be a fun project, and if I get it to run well it might replace my saab 9-5 and reduce my gasoline costs I haven't driven the car much, as it is not inspected not insured, but I didn't feel anything strange when I drove it. It keeps straight on the road and the steering is fine. But the front right tire is very worn down on its inner side. the front left tire is also worn more on the inner side, but not as much as the front-right one. I will take it for inspection soon, and ask them to have a extra look on steering / suspension. Is there any stuff you recommend me to check myself first? i.e. something often causing this on the fabia? I am thinking of manually measuring in toe-in/out, any suggestions here? What are the recommended values? Checking suspension? All ideas appreciated

  6. Thanks for your prompt reply I have read in several threads that you mention this LIN data connection. Before I did so I had a hard time trying to understand the electrical drawings in my haynes repair book, because the colours of the cable don't match those in the car, and in these drawings two cables are CAN. Thanks for pointing out which wire the LIN data is. I will do a continuity test on it and I'll return here. Thanks a lot!

  8. Hi Pete. I have a Fabia mk1 2006. I have the same problem as many others on this forum, electric windows work fine some time after the battery has been disconnected. Then both suddenly die. I can get one of them working by removing both fuses for left and right window (46 & 58) and then re-installing ONE of them.. If I re-install both fuses none will work. Does this mean that the left (driver side in my country) window-motor-pcb definately is faulty? Or could it be the right one? Or could it be something else?
  9. Thanks for your reply. I didn't mean the rust on the brake discs, I know that is normal, but the calipers look kind of corroded or something as well. I have attached two pics. Have you also done a lot of reading on the safety of this car? Everything looks OK but the whiplash protection seems to be worse than in any other recent Skoda model.

  11. Hi. I know this has been discussed a lot, but many of the threads are quite old and there should be some new information available. I am looking to buy a used Rapid 1.2 TSI from 2015. It has about 35000 km on it, and it has had only one service. I think the serviceinterval in Sweden for this car is only every 30.000 km. Actually, it says manufacture year: 2014 and model year: 2015. After reading several warnings on the internet I am worried if it has a timing chain. So I have some questions; 1. Does it have a timing belt or a timing chain? 2. Was the problems with failing timing chains on these engines ever solved, or did they just give up when they switched to using timing belts? 3. How worried should I be? The car is 3 years old so the original warranty has expired, but I will receive an additional year warranty from the Skoda dealer if I buy it. 4. If you guys consider the the timing chain problems not that severe that I should skip out on this car, would you recommend me to change the oil and filter myself between every Skoda service? 5. I live in Sweden (Stockholm) so we do have cold weather in the winters. Yes, there will be cold starts. But with not so heavy gas pedal. 6. Any things to watch out for? I testdrived it and it seemed nice enough. The only thing I notised was that all four break calipers (is that the right word?) looked kind of old. But the dealer told me that this is normal and its because of the chemicals they use when cleaning the wheels. The car has also been sitting for a few months at the dealer.
