    I looked at replacing my battery on my soon to be 5 year old VRS. I expected it might be on its way out soon and two of the best options were:

     

    Varta AGM 570901076

    Halfords Advanced 096 AGM (rebranded Yuasa)

     

    The Varta is slightly cheaper I think, but from time to time Halfords discount batteries and the rebranded Yuasa compares well. If you have a Halfords trade card or know someone who does I think you can get the Halfords for a very good price.

     

    Don't forget to get it coded if you do change it.

    I bought 1 but then needed a more powerful one to charge the dual battery setup in my 4x4, and also for my leisure battery. Was impressed with the CTek ßo got a bigger one.

    Then got a small one to trickle charge over winter as it was cheap in amazon prime deals.

    You are also able to get a variety of different attachments.

     

     

    My local Skoda garages uses them on the cars in the showroom.

     

    What do you think about noco genius 7200uk they look similar

    They stop art a certain point, even tell you they are fully charged but that charge is a now lower capacity then when new. 

    A bit like fitting a smaller battery. It will charge and work up to a point but go flat quite easily.

    I think its worth fitting a new one, especially if you could "Borrow" one for a few days/weeks. Swap with a mage or something to see if they get issue and you don't. 

     

    I have Fabia with no stop/start but the battery did the same thing after about 5 years so I got a new one. That lasted almost 4 years and had a 5 year warranty. The replacement then did the same thing. Charged, worked for a few weeks, failed again. So I exchanged it under the warranty and now, good as new!

     

    I even mentioned here, on Briskoda, the new one I picked up a few months ago was not even fully charged. You assume them to be but I tested it and it was about 60% charged, if I remember rightly so they might need charging even prior to fitting! 

    I too, use a Ring smart charger, when off the car and it was this that told me the new battery was not full to capacity. (The little on car, traffic light tester one may just have said between 50%-75%).

     

    So if you do replace, check and charge first!

     

    I got the charger from Halfords, the battery from Carparts4less, who delivered the next day.  (Replaced by Eurocarparts, via local brach). 

    Thanks, need to find out some battery and will check this out, my car is 64 plate and probably original battery maybe is time for new one

    You don't mention the age of your car but I doubt even a year old car will have a 100% perfect battery, unless it was replaced. Its a very strange, emotive term to suggest it.

     

    I have a tester that says between 75%/100% When the battery is on the car and running but there is no way of knowing if its 75% or 100%, just somewhere in between. It may be good but not necessarily perfect and most stop/start cars are gonna need near perfect.

    I have read of many owners saying the stop/start won't operate as the battery is a little low, despite being easily capable of running and starting the vehicle.

    My stop start function only works if I do long runs, but if I do 15 miles runs, never works, probably need to change battery. They connect that meter and said you just need to charge up and that's it

    I'd be checking your alternator first and then battery. Engine running, headlights on, should be around 14.3 volts.

     

    Check your battery terminal voltage after it is stood at least 4 hours. If its less than 11.7 volts you probably have a duff cell, a common reason for a failed battery. The minimum voltage at 25 deg C should be at least 12.2 volts (battery more or less flat) to 12.7+ volts (battery full).

     

    Check all lights (eg interior, boot) are off, no things like a USB charger are left plugged in.

     

    Get the battery load tested, most service outlets, quick quick fit type places will do it free of charge.

    & it's been faultless, I've only had to use it once on the vRS but I have let my friend borrow it, as he does up cars etc & he's used it loads of times & really rates it, I got mine with all the leads (bundle deal) probably within 2 years ago now & only cost me £65.00 at the time, the bundle deal seems to now be £93.99

    This charger is ok for Agm batteries and will charge battery up to 100%?
