  1. Ten days ago I got a letter from the solicitors who are suing the driver on behalf of Aviva to recover their costs. I was asked to fill a claim form to cover my costs such as my excess. I included the towing electrics with a copy of the receipt. Presume the insurers of the driver have declined responsibility.h
  2. Nice to see a link to Dark & White Events - been a competitor and volunteer for many years - all events well organised
  3. Had my Scott ESpark 720 since Nov 2017. Done 1831k, virtually all off road. Several mtb orienteering events during the winter had ice & snow. Gradually improved the firmware using Shimano updates. Tyres were upgraded to tubeless at purchase and have fitted my dropper seatpost. Spares - two sets brake pads (one because the second set became noisy despite being part worn) and replaced the chain (just) before too much wear. No sign of chain slip after the change despite a QOM blast on turbo up a steep off road climb. Otherwise only fault was crank bolts vibrating loose. I managed to lose a spring on the suspension control - was fixed in minutes without cost by the supplying shop. Sure they would have done so for anyone but I do know the mechanic through his racing and my role of British Cycling Commissaire.
  4. No one has mentioned that it is far easier to lift bikes onto a rear rack than onto the roof!
  5. Largish mileage. Ebikes put more torque through the system so wear chains more rapidly. When I was racing mountain bikes, my team leader would fit new chainset and sprockets at the beginning of the season with the cheapest compatible chain. Then replace the chain about every 6 weeks because he avoided wear to the expensive components and never had to worry about chain failure in a race. Could be an answer to your issues?
  6. The high/low screws are only intended to stop the chain falling of either end of the cassette or block. Nothing to do with wear!
  7. The length of the chain is irrelevant. The wear occurs on the pins and the chain gauges measure the change in distance across a few links between the pins.
  8. As a former bike mechanic chains do not stretch. Pins wear. rollers wear and so the distance between links become greater. Never have had a poor kmc chain so suspect the old worn chain had rapidly worn the cassette. If outer & inner chain rings are ok then suggest pilot error in gear use - the fact that all gears can be selected doesn't mean that using them all is ideal. Sounds like you use middle ring regardless.
  9. Got my Scout back - well repaired by RRG Bolton. Now need to chase up insurance and reclaim my excess. Tried the air con for the first time since purchase this hot weekend - obviously needs a service.
  10. Car being repaired under own insurance at the moment. Yet to discover information regarding the driver involved.
  11. No idea as the driver was being treated in the ambulance when I returned to my car.
  12. 61 plate with 80,000 miles. Manual gearbox. Most unusual is stalling whilst braking for a junction at between 15 & 20 mph. Doesn’t have stop/start as far as I know. No problems starting from stationary.
  13. Only had the vehicle for a month or so but am getting several engine stalls. Can occur when slowing for an intersection at rolling speeds of around 15 mph. Been driving for 60 years and not encountered the issue. My daughter has a Passat estate and has commented that that is prone to stalling.
  14. Hate them and diverted from the product.
  15. Might have to claim on my own insurance and have them redeem costs. Having 13 years no claims I was hoping to avoid that as the cctv recording proves the liability of his insurer.
  16. Was parked in the local Asda yesterday and returned to find my car was the third in a row to have been hit by a very elderly driver who appeared to have lost control. The police officer present had seen the cctv footage and concluded that the incident was possibly due to a medical issue. The driver was being treated in the ambulance prior to hospitalisation. I contacted his insurer today and though they knew of the incident and were aware of the recording are not prepared to proceed until they have contacted the driver. I made enquiries at the supermarket regarding his health prior to consulting the insurer but they were unaware of his present condition. There is a degree of irony regarding the insurers - their name? Swift! Doubt I will ever insure with them. Only had the Scout a few weeks and somewhat upset. Was to tow my caravan on a holiday in a week's time but have managed to book an appointment to fit a secondary socket to my Renault Trafic van to take the Scout's place. That bill will be added to the claim as there was no mention of providing a courtesy vehicle and a comment that I would have to wait or use my own insurance to expedite repairs.
  17. Good for you. Good service is strived for by many small businesses. Our cycle shop always believed that a good reputation took a log time yet could be lost in moments. I never refused a test ride on anything we had in stock. My worst experience of a customer occurred as I retired and am still unsure of the legalities. A member of my National cycling club (but unknown to me at the time) ordered a custom bike to his very specific details. Was built to that design and proved "disappointing" to the customer who demanded a refund. Later I found that due to several altercations he was "encouraged" to leave the Club.
  18. Thanks. Decided on stand alone set up to use between my two vehicles. Has built in dash cam plus hands free including text message read out.
  19. Perhaps the second best vehicle I have owned. Have fond memories of my mk 2 Renault Espace withover 100,000 miles in my use. Two weeks in, I am impressed with the car but less so with the tow ball and electrics. Years of neglect need sorting - have cleaned and lubed the Witter detachable towball. Need finish cleaning out the socket and fit a replacement cover. Will need to fit a second 7 pin socket as first attempt hit the ground after 20 metres - perhaps due to the weight of my E bike and an abrupt ground slope change. Should have tried to undo the upper mount but two hours removing the socket ( seized nuts that wouldn’t sheer or allow the heads to be drilled and brackets that were rusted). Next dry day will attack that bolt that may have given rotation. To drive it is excellent. Boot space is excellent but why can’t I remove the cover? Seats down step is greater than expected - despite my age had contemplated the odd night sleeping in the rear.
  20. More lighthearted but many, many years ago my partner rewired the cottage we were renovating. I asked if she was able and got the reply -"If I can wire up a Tornado JJet there will be no problem." Have never seen such care re routing, insulation, etc.
  21. Just purchased a stand alone Garmin to replace my elderly version. My (new to me) Scout has a great radio but was unable to link my android phone and fitting a satnav system to the bolero looked ominous. Also wanted to communicate easily with my son in law during his attempt at Land's End John O'Groats as have been designated support driver. The unit can receive texts and calls, has much more navigational info re my old one and a front facing camera (trivial but will be able to follow him for short distances for the blog). An additional benefit is that I can use it in my other transport (a primitive Renault Trafic camper). Can also download my own points of interest. Have tried the phone on occasion but not impressed. Recently was 100m from a desired location but was sent round a 1.5k loop!
