Karoq cam belt change - start saving now !
All the evidence was in this thread to conclude getting it changed was a no-go, long before Skoda dealers changed schedule.

Karoq cam belt change - start saving now !
The Skoda manual was posted here showing it's essentially a lifetime belt. I knew there was something daft about it when they tried to book me in for it. So I did a bit of due diligence and thanks to the original poster who published that info I knew it was one to avoid. I would advise most people to avoid main dealer servicing and find a decent independent that specialises in VAG group. I got a service and MOT done at an independent and very happy. As soon as I got in, I could see the door hinges had been freshly lubricated, never been done at main dealer, so just makes me think half of what they claim to service is probably not done.

Probably because it's a complicated job and caused real problems, instead of fixing imaginary ones as was intended.

"the right thing" I wouldn't go far that. They fell for a fear based pitch.

It was laughable that they were trying to change the cambelt after 5 years. Based on the dealer trying to get that done on my Karoq, I took mine to an independent garage, albeit a VW specialist, and that's where I will continue going from now on, big saving and I was happy with the service.

Of course not. It's a fear based pitch and it clearly works on most people. As soon as I heard the words from the main dealer "so that's MOT, full service along with brake fluid change and cam belt change let's get that booked in." I knew it wasn't something to entertain. It's a money making exercise. I can almost guarantee more problems from actually changing it than leaving the factory fitted one alone. Especially based on some posts in this thread with garages stopping doing as it's not easy to do. Mine is going for a full service and MOT this week. Gone to an independent after using main dealer previously. So far I don't regret it in the slightest 😄

I did wonder about this when they tried to book mine in. Probably more things likely to go wrong from a cam belt change rather than the cam belt, that was fitted at the factory, going wrong itself.

Another weird motoring thing "5 years or 50k miles whichever comes first." But those two things are not the same thing. I think £1k for a cam belt is a bit of a joke really.

I asked myself - if I traded in my Karoq tomorrow, would the dealer fit a new cambelt before putting it on the forecourt? And I am very doubtful that would be the case. If a cam belt needs replacing after 15k miles, it's not a very good car really IMO. So even £550 seems an excessive price. I vaguely read something about that from @varooom and the screenshot of the manual he posted. But not sure where the DADA lifetime thing came from?

I have a 2018 Karoq 1.5 petrol, DSG, SE L. 15k miles. DADA engine code. Dealer rang to me to book in service and phrased it "Service, MOT, cam belt and brake fluid change" Shall we book it all in? I instantly didn't like that approach. Bundled all together as though it's some package, no mention of cost. Was £1100 for the cambelt change when I queried. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
