  1. All the evidence was in this thread to conclude getting it changed was a no-go, long before Skoda dealers changed schedule.
  2. The Skoda manual was posted here showing it's essentially a lifetime belt. I knew there was something daft about it when they tried to book me in for it. So I did a bit of due diligence and thanks to the original poster who published that info I knew it was one to avoid. I would advise most people to avoid main dealer servicing and find a decent independent that specialises in VAG group. I got a service and MOT done at an independent and very happy. As soon as I got in, I could see the door hinges had been freshly lubricated, never been done at main dealer, so just makes me think half of what they claim to service is probably not done.
  3. Probably because it's a complicated job and caused real problems, instead of fixing imaginary ones as was intended.
  4. "the right thing" I wouldn't go far that. They fell for a fear based pitch.
  5. It was laughable that they were trying to change the cambelt after 5 years. Based on the dealer trying to get that done on my Karoq, I took mine to an independent garage, albeit a VW specialist, and that's where I will continue going from now on, big saving and I was happy with the service.
  6. Of course not. It's a fear based pitch and it clearly works on most people. As soon as I heard the words from the main dealer "so that's MOT, full service along with brake fluid change and cam belt change let's get that booked in." I knew it wasn't something to entertain. It's a money making exercise. I can almost guarantee more problems from actually changing it than leaving the factory fitted one alone. Especially based on some posts in this thread with garages stopping doing as it's not easy to do. Mine is going for a full service and MOT this week. Gone to an independent after using main dealer previously. So far I don't regret it in the slightest 😄
  7. I did wonder about this when they tried to book mine in. Probably more things likely to go wrong from a cam belt change rather than the cam belt, that was fitted at the factory, going wrong itself.
  8. Another weird motoring thing "5 years or 50k miles whichever comes first." But those two things are not the same thing. I think £1k for a cam belt is a bit of a joke really.
  9. I asked myself - if I traded in my Karoq tomorrow, would the dealer fit a new cambelt before putting it on the forecourt? And I am very doubtful that would be the case. If a cam belt needs replacing after 15k miles, it's not a very good car really IMO. So even £550 seems an excessive price. I vaguely read something about that from @varooom and the screenshot of the manual he posted. But not sure where the DADA lifetime thing came from?
  10. I have a 2018 Karoq 1.5 petrol, DSG, SE L. 15k miles. DADA engine code. Dealer rang to me to book in service and phrased it "Service, MOT, cam belt and brake fluid change" Shall we book it all in? I instantly didn't like that approach. Bundled all together as though it's some package, no mention of cost. Was £1100 for the cambelt change when I queried. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
  11. 5p a megabyte. So that is fine for ultra-low usage. Although you may as well use 1p Mobile. If you start using upwards of 100mb though, that isn't good value at all.
  12. That sounds too good to be true. Not much hassle to do dispute via PayPal, just depends how badly you feel it was missold. Although 2GB for £7.49 not dreadful overall.
  13. Definitely worth it, I used it all winter. Wouldn't buy a car without it after having it in the Karoq.
  14. Three are a solid network here in the UK. I use them in the UK and abroad. In fact, I got stung with a £40 roaming bill from Bosnia earlier this year from Waze. £6 per mb! That 1GB / £10 deal is pretty good. Are you hiring a car that has a SIM slot or is this for your phone? If it's for your phone you can get 2GB for £10 from Three as a PAYG bundle that has minutes and texts as well.

    MPG

I've just put 3k miles on mine driving across Europe. Got over 50MPG on one tank in Norway on an 80km/h road. Autobahn was at around 33MPG but I was pushing on a bit and quite a lot of slowing down / speeding up due to traffic. Mainly in Eco and Normal mode. 1.5 TSI.
  16. Different car but a friends Corsa had this one, throttle didn't do anything. A software update fixed it.
  17. Nice post. I have just driven my Karoq through 6 countries in one day including France. The current speed is always my choice for the small screen, far easier than looking at the dials. Prob my favourite feature, although the ACC was great on the motorway. My pick for Nav would be Waze though, not Google Earth. Worked like a charm for me and I knew what was coming up ahead thanks to other users along with cameras, police, speed limits etc.
  18. Had my Karoq about 3 weeks now. 1.5 DSG SE L in Quartz Grey. Not a petrol head or someone with a proud history of cars owned so this is easily the best car I've had. Comfort, ride height and quality are all top notch. Interested to see what stuff people have purchased as extras for their car / to use with it either official Skoda products or other bits and pieces? I've bought a few things so far: General Stuff Mud Flaps - fitted them as per the thread here , but didn't bother drilling holes. They look good and do a job. Bought from the Czech Republic Mega Mount - fits the air vents perfectly and great for docking your phone when using Android Auto etc. Magnet just slips behind the case I have and the phone sits very sturdily. 30cm charging cable for my One Plus 3T - the standard charging cable is too long so you get too much slack floating around the centre console. This size is perfect for putting the phone on the air vent to the left of the steering wheel for a tidy setup. £2 on eBay. Data Only SIM - the 3T is dual sim so I picked up a data only sim for using Waze etc. when driving. I didn't want to enter a contract so found a 12GB data only SIM on this site from Three that lasts for 12 months and was £40. Should be more than enough and I'll be using it when not in the car as well. Had the phone not been dual sim I'd have probably picked up a low-end smartphone to keep in the car. French Driving Kit - basic one from eBay. Later saw Aldi are doing one as part of their AutoXS range and I think it looks neater / better quality. Analog Mini Compressor from Aldi - just to keep in the car as they're always useful to have Some microfibre cloths - keep one in the dash storage box above the Amundsen Screen just to keep the shiny plastic fingerprint free 64GB SD Card for the secondary SD card slot - use this to keep some music on and also used it to add the speed camera POI's as mentioned in this thread . Cleaning Stuff Hoping to keep the car in pretty good nick so I've bought a few cleaning items after watching quite a few detailing videos on YouTube, carcleaningguru seems to know his stuff. I think you can probably go overkill on this stuff buying a ton of unnecessary products but I've bought the below all from either Amazon or eBay: Autobrite Magifoam - creates a snow foam for a pre-wash. Used it once so far but need a new pressure washer with a better lance so foaming results were average. A couple of wash mitts - supposedly better than sponges to avoid swirl marks and scratches from dirty embedded in the sponge. I've started using this 2 bucket wash method they all swear by Gyeon Q2 Rim - saw that recommended here so will be having a go with it. But I used some Poorboys that my friend had for a first clean and that seems to be doing a good job. Quite hard to get into the actual inside of the wheel. Taking them off would obviously be far better but not sure I fancy it. Anyone ever removed the wheels for a clean? Microfibre towels for drying the car - again the detailing world says avoid chamois leathers Some Autofinesse tyre dressing - leaves a nice finish. Autofinesse detailing spray for use when drying the car or if you wanted to add some lubricant for a clay bar etc. Some detailing brushes for the wheels and badges and other awkward to clean spots Any questions on the above feel free to ask. And what sort of stuff has everyone else purchased for their Karoq?
  19. I've fitted these too, they look good and do work. As per someone above I just used some automotive tape on the front, as drilling holes in a new car was a no-no for me. Tbh it is probably fine with 1 bolt and the clamp thing. But the tape just adds a little bit extra.
  20. Same as mine basically. Had it just over a week now. Like you very pleased with it so far, great to drive. Haven't gone far in it yet at all, but it's going to rack up a few thousand miles in the next few weeks.
  21. How long does it normally take to arrive once it hits Status 30?
  22. How much does that cost you roughly in interest after a couple of payments? I was tempted to do it within 14 days...
  23. I wouldn't bother with the Canton either, a pricey option that adds very little value to the car when it comes to selling. Doubt I'd upgrade either, how good a sound system do you really need in a car?
  24. From what I've seen it's never in the finance agreement to claw back. Probably doesn't need to be as 90%+ people who take out finance deals aren't in a position to pay it off straight away. I guess they will lose their commission if you do it in 14 days. Guess if you do it you can always see which car the salesman has and put an envelope with 50 quid in it under the wiper Think I will do it that way as the deal I have seems fair. Don't want to cost the guy a commission. Haven't worked out what the interest would be to knock off the £1500 though.
  25. I'm going to do this most likely - out of interest did you pay within 14 days or make 1 or 2 payments first?
