Octavia 2 4x4, permanent 4wd? and tire diameter diffrence
Hi folks A friend of mine has a 2007 octavia 4x4, due to a puncture, she needs 1 tire, but we are gonna change both on the same axle. I been doing some reading and it seems the haldex is more forgiving when it comes to tire diameter than cars with permanent 4x4. Does this car have permanent 4x4 or is it 4x4 only when detect wheel spin for example? Reason for asking is the diffrence between 2 new tires and the two old, the old ones have 6mm depth and the new ones 8, will this cause a problem on this car? if not, does it matter on which axle we place the newest/biggest tires? Thanks in advance for help

Thanks for your answer To check the injector connections i have to take off the valvecover right? and how to fix them, just squeeze them on a bit harder?

Octavia 2 1.9tdi juddering/stuttering at certain revs, no fault codes
Hiya folks I had a major turbo blow out before christmas, finally got the car up and running again and its running pretty good, cept for a weird problem. Sometimes when i drive the car it runs absolutely perfect, however if i stop the car and start it up again, sometimes it stutters a bit around 1100rpm. i stop the car and start it again, no stuttering around 1100rpms, but instead at 1900rpms. It seems to be at either 1100 or 1900, nowhere else. The car has been sitting entire winter unused, it was also sitting with almost empty tank of diesel. I have now run some injector cleaner thru it and of course fresh diesel, but it doesnt seem to change the weird stuttering. If it was a fuel starvation issue, or water in the diesel, i would assume it would be worse at higher revs? I have no fault codes, used vcds to look at airflow, injection etc and everything looks normal. I have also cleaned most of the sensors, checked the airfilter, checked the vacuum if they actuate the actuators like they should and as far as i can tell everything works. When the turbo blew, i got quite a bit of oil in the exhaust, im wondering if the oxygen sensor is really dirty, but im not sure if this would cause this weird issue. I can not find anything in vcds to look at the value of the oxygen sensor, or is it just me not finding it? Something else im overlooking here? Suggestions is greatly appriciated, Thanks in advance

Octy II 1.9tdi Hydrolocking engine?
I looked some more at my car today, including doing a diagnostic scan, No codes found. I tried to start the car and to my suprise it started right away, its running a bit rough and smoking a lot out of the tailpipe. The car has a pretty big boostleak somewhere, possibly also leaking around the egr, can this cause the engine to get too much diesel? Im also starting to wonder if the timing belt might have skipped a tooth when the turbo blew, but that would be pretty odd wouldnt it? it does seem like its out of time when starting the car, but if theres a lot of fuel in the cylinders i guess it will feel that way too. the turbo sucked up a lot of the engine oil but this should have been flushed out, only thing i can imagine there might be oil left is in the tailpipe and possibly in the egr if thats possible. The car has prolly ran for about 1 hour total after the turbo change, so would think the oil should been burnt out by now? im not sure where to start, should i get the boostleak fixed first, or check timing or possibly injectors? im afraid this engine isnt really worth anymore time or money, but at the same time, i would like to avoid junking this car since i already put quite a bit of money in it. Please feel free to air your thoughts and sugggestions

Octy II 1.9tdi Hydrolocking engine?
Hiya Around christmas time we did a turbo change on my 2006 Octavia 1.9tdi, the car was started and ran but had a boost leak issue. Then I had an accident and broke my foot, so car has just been sitting around since february and havent been started since. Today i went to start the car, the battery was low but i jumped it and car started and ran fine, i unhooked the jumper battery and After a couple of minutes it started smoking pretty dark grey and black, looked like diesel smoke to me, and i heard a "tick" "tick" sound, like an injector gone bad. I stopped the engine, checked oil levels and coolant just to make sure it wasnt sucking in oil or coolant and everything was up to level. After a few minutes i tried to start it again and now the engine wont turn over. I can tell its trying to crank but it sounds and feels like its hydrolocked. Im thinking one injector is staying open/broken and is dumping diesel into a cylinder, could possibly be oil or water, but there was no pressure in the coolant and like i mentioned above, oil and coolant is up to level. Are these injectors likely to stick open? any other scenarios thats known to happen on these engines? anything i can do other than actually pulling the injectors to find out whats going on? Could low battery cause injectors to missfire? I have vagcom,im not very experienced with it tho and since i cant run the engine im not sure how much use it will be for me to find out whats going on? Help and suggestions are very much appriciated, Thanks in Advance!

But another thought, when it sucked this much oil into the intercooler, wouldnt u think the pickup and line is clear? Will still check tho, just thinking about a possible cause.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought about that myself, dropping the pan and have a look. The car has been worked on before i got it obviously and u never know what can have gotten into the sump, like for example silicon. I think i will do that and also look at the filter. On the other hand, the car has 270 000km on it so idk if its that strange the bearings finally blew? but of course, i rather check than risk another failure.

Changing Turbo on a 4x4 1.9tdi, Help/advice needed
Hi again Today was my day for the dreadded job and oh boy! I got the Turbo out, installing the other one tomorrow. i did pretty much the same as Jakubini. I removed the right wheel and drive shaft. I didnt remove the battery tray or the engine mount, on my car, i guess since i have no DPF it wasnt really needed to pull the engine forward any. My biggest problem was someone apperently had the intake out at some point and the unbrako /six points for one of the oil pipe return was rounded off, so no way in hell to get them out easily, so instead i had to remove the entire cooler thingy or whatever it is that covers the intake bolts. Once i got that knucklebusting job done, it was fairly straight forward removing the exhaust manifold thankfully and got the turbo out. Broke the oil feed line, no way of getting it lose from the nut,the pipe itself twisted around, so i ended up cutting the pipe to get the nut off. Used 7 hours total including a few breaks and im guessing at least 3 or 4 of them was spent on messing around with the intake. There was a LOT of oil on both sides of the intercooler in the hoses/pipes, however the intercooler itself looks fairly clean as far as i can see. Going to try flush it where it sits with break cleaner tomorrow and see what comes out. Heres a picture of my turbo, and theres no bearing left.

Mine been stored now for a while also jakubini, had to hunt for a while for a turbo for a good price. Its going to be good to finally get it fixed, unfortunatly, i think its time to sell my octavia, its the 2nd big thing that happened to it within a few months. First thing was the flywheel. Looked at your turbo video now, thats one wore out turbo! i suspect mine is worse than that too. How many kilometers is on ur car? mine has 270 000. MicMac the car actually ran until i stopped it with the key, it started losing power, it smoked like crazy and i thought maybe i had blown the headgasket, but then the oil warning came on and i turned the car off. Showed nothing on the dipstick, but of course the engine was still warm at that point, so im sure theres still some left. Also theres tons of oil residue out the exhaust. I really hope theres no more problems with the engine, but time will tell.

Thank you, so you removed the engine mount on the side where the alternator is. I will do the same. I dont have dpf filter, so hopefully there isnt something else i have to remove instead. Great information, i know a lot more what i have to do now.

Thank you. However i fair its a lot in the intercooler since when my turbo broke, it sucked the engine dry of oil within a few secs. I think a lot of it ended up in the exhaust, but i will definitly have to check the intercooler and hoses. I might just take it off to be sure unless its a big job in itself.

Thank you MicMac, thats good to know for the first startup. Anyone have any thoughts on what i can flush the intercooler with?

Changing Turbo on a 4x4 1.9tdi, Help/advice needed
Thats great the turbo has arrived for u. when u got it off, im sure u will get it back together. im thinking its a good idea to put some oil in the turbo oil line just so the turbo has some oil for startup. im not a mechanic either, but same situation as you. Mechanic wants 1000 euro to do the job, and thats a lot of money on a old car, so have to do it myself instead.

Thank you for sharing that, i was thinking the same thoughts, why not loosen the engine a bit and pull the engine to make more space. Which one of the engine mounts did u loosen to make more space? i think i will do the same. So you and i have exactly same car then, same color too it looks like You say u removed the silentblock, what do you mean silentblock? did u have to go under the car to remove anything from below? i guess u have to go under to remove the exhaust from the turbo? u didnt remove driveshafts or anything like that? do you have to flush ur intercooler? i have to flush mine to remove all the oil it sucked up, but im not sure what do use to flush it, do you happen to know? No problem with your english, mine isnt that good either, im from Norway so not born to speak english either but thats ok as long as we understand eachother Thanks again for your help, i have planned to start my turbo job 26th of december and hope to be able to do it in 2 days.
