1.4 TSI (150bhp) Modifications / Improvements
@OccyVRS Thank you for your detailed reply, summarising and tying up some loose ends 🙂 I never knew that about that the kick down click, or even that it was there in the first place! I will probably add a throttle box to my wish list. If only I used FB, I'd check that out. However, I did spend some considerable time on the website you sent a link too, and on the associated YT channel, so I managed to pick up some useful information there, but no real specifics as to where to go next. With regards to dogbone mounts and your remarks around gear changes, do they only apply to the DSG box? I presume so. I will not be looking at changing my turbo. However, what did you think about the remarks made above about coil packs and whatever a "GFB DV+diverter valve" is? I had my car mapped at SLT Remapping; they're not a tuning outfit per se, so wouldn't be able to advise on mods etc. Spacers are definitely just about aesthetics for me, nothing more. I feel the wheel arches would be better filled if the wheels were to stand a little prouder.

@travs Do you think it's worth a go on my manual 1.4TSI? If I were to buy the same spacers as you, for example, would I require longer bolts all round? Are there any tracking/alignment considerations to be made when adding 11mm spacers, would you say?

@nicknorman Cheers Nick, it's definitely a belt (it is visible) on my puny 1.4TSI.

1.4 TSI (150bhp) Modifications / Improvements
@Ootohere I have questions! When you say different plugs, but not brands, may improve performance, what do you mean, I don't follow? What kind of difference does change coils actually make? Why might I want to fit GFB DV+diverter valve? What do they/it do? In an earlier message you said something about Stage 1 and 210/220 BHP and 320 Nm, are you saying this is what a Stage 1 re-map on its own can achieve for this engine?

@Ootohere Why do you say that re: the K&N? Yes, it's the box and filter i.e. 57S-9506. Are you able to rephrase your remarks, as I don't really follow I'm afraid. Just stock OEM - are there alternative plugs worth investing in? I did buy some NGK Iridium plugs a while back, but they got changed during a dealer service. When you say coils, do you mean coil packs? If so, what is the benefit of doing so?

1.4 TSI (150bhp) Modifications / Improvements
@travs Thank you for your thoughts :) May I ask about 2 things you have: Racechip XLR5 throttle adaptor - what are your thoughts? Would you buy again? Did you consider their 'performance increase' products at any point, or are they no match for mapping? Forge 11mm spacers front and rear - I am interested in spacers. What considerations are there when buying such things? I have 18" OEM alloys.

Amundsen MIB2 Firmware Update
@pab567 With regards to the file/version you sent me, are you able to say when it was produced/released? Also, is it possible to ascertain what has been changed? Superficially at least, there appears to be only minor cosmetic changes, but I appreciate the update will do a lot more than this.

Sump Replacement
Good idea, thank you. I'll investigate when I can.

Sump Replacement
Yes, I will do that, but I can almost hear their response based on how reasonable requests have been met in the past. Yes, it is. I will go elsewhere once my service plan is complete later this year.

1.4 TSI (150bhp) Modifications / Improvements
I am interested in any relatively straightforward modifications that could be made to my '67 plate Superb. So far I have do/done the following:- Always use 99 RON fuel. Periodically use Cataclean. Stage 1 re-map, increasing bhp and torque to 169 and 300Nm respectively (dyno checked). Airbox and filter changed (K&N), which may have further increased bhp and toque a little. Interestingly, neither 3 nor 4 have had any noticeable negative impact on fuel efficiency. Is there any other low-hanging fruit that I might want to consider to further improve performance and/or efficiency?

Sump Replacement
I'd hoped for a date stamp or something (that I was unable to locate myself). Yes, I have one, but if they can list an air filter that hasn't actually been replaced, then it doesn't reassure me. I don't have any particular reason, but that's not based on anything concrete. I was in two minds about the belt change at 5 years, especially at such a cost, but decided to err on the side of caution. Ok, I'll try not to dwell. I thought I'd seen somewhere that they'd extended it to 10 years, but perhaps the information was out of date. Thank you again for your thoughts.

@Warrior193 Is there a way to visually check that my timing belt was indeed changed (2 years ago)?

Amundsen MIB2 Firmware Update
Hi @pab567 Is there an update for my unit please? Thank you for all your effort on this never-ending multi-year thread :)

Sump Replacement
If the very same servicing garage is to be trusted, then yes, the plugs were changed at 4 years.
-
Sump Replacement
I believe it should have been replaced at 6 years / 60K . The vehicle has had at least 2 'major' services, for what it's worth.

Sump Replacement
Apologies, the engine air filter.

Sump Replacement
@Warrior193 Thank you for taking the time to comment and offer your thoughts. I am beginning to lose some faith in what I have been told by Skoda. As an aside, I was curious as to whether my engine filter had ever actually been replaced (as I've heard some highly regrettable stories), and when I did so, the date stamp on it was 2015! I do hope I'm mistaken somehow. My car has always been dealer serviced, and at the same one for 4 years+.

Sump Replacement
I'm adding some photos I've just taken, does anyone have any thoughts or remarks on them? I cleaned some oil off the plug before taking the photos. It was last cleaned on Tuesday by Skoda. There's oil spray over surrounding surfaces and some on the sump pan itself, but it was mainly around and on the plug, and not 'a lot', maybe a few drops worth.

Sump Replacement
@Athrx is that the front side of the car in general? eBay have kindly told me that part doesn't fit, presumably as mine is petrol. Is the pan linked plastic? I couldn't see any mention of material.

Sump Replacement
Thank you for your reply @nicknorman Sounds like I need a plastic replacement then :) I'm just about to put my car on a lift to check the sump myself. I've had varying quotes now, from the original £792 all the way down to £250!

Sump Replacement
Hi all, My Superb is 7.5 years and has covered 60k unremarkable miles. It's parked up outside and inland in the UK. I have been told the sump is corroded and leaking, and that it needs to be replaced at a cost of just under £800. Firstly, is it right that the whole unit might need replacing? At one point, the service advisor said 'sump pan', and I wondered if that was an element of the sump that could be replaced independently? Secondly, can the sump be protected in any way to prevent this kind of expensive damage happening again?

Steering wheel not centred, what next?
UPDATE: Success! The issue has finally been resolved by a really great bunch of guys over at Autotecnic in Sheffield (go there!). They figured out that the alignment specs coming up for my vehicle, were not in fact the 'correct' ones, so they cycled through all the options for a Superb until they found the correct one. It was a real head scratcher for all involved, but thankfully Ross at said garage got to the bottom of it. He went above and beyond and his charges were beyond reasonable all things considered. They run a tight and professional ship, and are super friendly, straightforward and clearly committed to delivering excellent service. Great stuff, I am one happy bunny, once again driving straight down the middle 😄

Steering wheel not centred, what next?
@classic Oooh, ok, thank you! I'll be insisting upon that next time around then - I presume there's no point me doing that myself at this point given it's current state i.e. perhaps it needs to be re-aligned again first?
