  1. Quite possibly, that and leasing deals, I think long term residuals on the petrols might be better than expected and the reverse for the diesels, oversupply being a valid point I'm very much your last line, cash buyer as in my own money, got a good discount, on pcp because its 2.9% and I will keep the car 6 years at least, I dont worry about residuals really
  2. Out sells the Veyron as well , must be better than that also They sell more Fiestas than anything else in this country , I wouldnt want one of those either Fact remains , sales have dropped , residuals are dropping
  3. I had a test drive in one , spent about an hour on various type of roads , they are simply outstanding , I've never been in anything that launched like the Tesla (Insane mode) , the whole package is simply stunning , unfortunately so is the price tag the one I drove was £104k but perhaps next year All I can say to anyone is just drive one , you will not fail to be impressed , if you are any kind of petrolhead of course
  4. How on earth does one distinguish between someone who is in the left hand lane of the roundabout indicating right and someone who is actually turning right? People that indicate right and then left when going straight on is one of my bug bears I am not in the habit of indicating when I am going straight on , being on a roundabout would make no difference although I do signal left when exiting the roundabout Much like the others I indicate only when its of use to other drivers and when it is to make my intentions clear, this right and then left business is confusing at best.
  5. Always used to hold its value better you mean about as popular as a pork pie at a Bar Miztvah nowadays :)
  6. The Octavia vrs can lap thenurburgring in less than 8 mins? Thats news to me
  7. Size , space, practicality and anonymity . The Octavia estate is huge and has more rear headroom than the Golf (Important if your son is 6'3") . The boot on the Octavia hatch also makes it practical family car , the cars you listed are weekend toys or second cars imo I don't see them as particularly performance orientated cars just a family car with a decent turn of speed
  8. I dont have the extreme alloys just the 18" diamond cut but I kerbed mine on the way back from the dealers the day i collected it ! Just touch it up with clear laquer for now and in the spring there are plenty of mobile wheel refurb people who can make it look much much better
  9. The GTR has launch control , they are idiot proof I dont use launch control on my cars but along with the torque app and a private road or drag strip I can get close to the manufacturers figures, spent Saturday doing that very thing in fact
  10. Interesting thread here in the MLR with posts from the guy who built the Skoda engine, also has a link the Bonneville video http://lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=386857
  11. A RWYB is never a good way to judge anothers cars performance , the GTR can hit 60 in less then 3 seconds and easily run a 11 second 1/4
  12. Its all relative , if a car did a 1/4 mile in 11 seconds then it would probably pull 115-120 terminal speed, however a car running high 11's would run about 110mph and hit 100 mph in about 11 seconds from the start , acceleration is acceleration. There is no way by adding 100 hp to MK3 TSI that it would A) be able to run more than 100 mph in the 1/4 mile or be able to run faster than a 13 second run So I think its a**e gravy of the highest order and nothing but sales talk Not saying it wouldnt be a lot of fun but if you cant get the hp down then its pretty pointless and my stock TSI struggles off the line with 220
  13. And I don't believe it for a minute that would equate to a 1/4 mile time of mid 11's and I just don't buy that for a fwd car with low 300's hp that's way faster than a golf r for example
  14. I understood only the worst most polluting diesels were being restricted and then on a rolling scale by 2020 only post 2011 cars on the road , of course its being reported in various scaremongering ways http://www.mnn.com/green-tech/transportation/blogs/paris-bans-diesels-and-restricts-traffic
  15. I'm averaging about 36mpg out of TSI DSG estate I reckon it will always be about 10mpg worse than the diesel but by the time you add up the difference in fuel its not as much as you think Based on 37500 miles over 3 years you'll spend approx £5678 on petrol or £4076 on diesel (based on 36mpg and 46mpg) so about £1500 difference or £41 pm. The petrol is cheaper to buy so and all other things are about the same ie servicing and road tax. If you are really concerned about resale why not buy a pre reg or year old one ? Personally if i was in the market for a diesel (God forbid! ) I'd be looking at the scout rather than the VRS
  16. I still have those in my shed that I posted back in April These http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/352299-skoda-superb-luna-alloys-18/ and I'm near Didcot so only about 1 hour away
  17. Because it effects 2009 and on cars so not the MK1
  18. not a great idea to shove your finger into the hole , there are sharp wires in the sidewall of tyres , you might find your finger goes in alright but wont come out !
  19. My Superb started doing this on the reversing lights but with an added twist, the fault would swap sides on a regular basis , sometimes right rear and other left rear in all cases the bulbs were working just fine. As it was coming up to 6 years and 90k we decided to change the car anyhow so never got to the bottom of it , I was worried that the fault was in the wiring for the boot where it flexs on the twindoor hinge
  20. I only put V power or momentum in my VRS
  21. Modern torque converter boxes can often more than match their manual counterparts as they are able to employ more gears and longer gearing Some manufacturers are going back to torque converter autos over dsg type boxes, the Lexus IS-F for example has a shift speed that walks all over DSG as well as 8 gears and is a work of art imo http://www.supra-2urgse.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/aa80e-intergration-pt1.pdf
  22. I understood aircraft tyres were filled with nitrogen to control (perhaps predict would be a better word) the pressure variances due to altitude and temperature, reduce corrosion and most importantly the fact it doesnt burn or react violently to oils and greases Similar to the need of motor sport teams I imagine
  23. I do think a lot of dislike of auto's is based on the old fully hydraulic units of old, I have to say I felt pretty much the same until the TCU controlled tiptronic boxes started to come out and and they were a step in the right direction but a modern electronic auto is a thing of joy and every bit as involving as a manual or dsg Out of the three cars in our household (Petrol) we have a CVT, a conventional modern auto and a dsg , it would have to be a very good manual to tempt me away from an auto nowadays , better than anything VAG produce for sure
  24. We used to use "dry air " for the tyres when we were drag racing, much more consistency which is very important when you only run 5-8 psi
