  1. I got a response back from the skoda workshop. The extra cost all have to do with changing spark plugs. "since your car has more than 5x,xxx Km skoda says they have to be changed. the other parts are necessary during the exchange"
  2. That was a rhetorical question I am just trying to fathom how this would mean friendly and fair service; and I can get there, any help? I could ask, in email, why they wish to service my turbo (if that is what is is). or ask at another dealer and see what happens.... the game is on! Here in DE you get standard 2 year warrenty. There maybe some components with 3 year, i have to do some research. *conspiracy theory one; they saw the problem in first service noted it and decided to postpone the work until out of warranty...... The car does use oil. I have asked at some point on the forum, as well as skoda/VW. I was assured it was normal for the 1.5 w/ 0w20.....
  3. But how would they know that without seeing the car??? I just emailed the VW workshop and asked for a quote. I believe I recall seeing this during the first service interval. I have cleaned this oil off at some point so see if it returned. I seem to have forgotten to check:) In any case this is not near the turbo???
  4. Oh, also, I did have a look over and clean the car and did notice some peculiar oil collecting near the plugs? what do you make of it?
  5. In the meantime, I already replaced the pollen and intake filter with febi and mann equivalents. Cheap and easy and should save a few buck wherever I go for oil. Is there anything particularly needful or interesting contained in the "detailed Inspection" I assume that just look for rust and things to sell you, right?
  6. I can't speak for the TDI, but for my 1.5 TSI I always let it run until the idle drops. Usually about 1min. No technical reasons I know of but if it waits for something to happen before dropping idle I can wait 1min too
  7. Hello again, I am back after a long pause (because my octavia is due its service) I asked for a quote from a local dealer that did the first inspection/oil with what I though was fair work for a fair price.... Now I asked for a quote (by email, as with 1st service) on the 2nd, 3 year "inspection service" with 53k Km. So, I come to ask the opinion of the forum as the quoted work totals over 700 euro!!! I just dont see any way that is reasonable. I can include details if anyone wished, but to start it includes things like: spark plugs for 177.52 pollen filter for 71.90 "innensechsrundschraube"' WHT000729A { WHT001386 "gasket" WHT003247 "gasket" 04E145853 Halterbugel (bracket) } appears to be part of the turbo... Is anyone familiar with the turbos needing servicing on the 1.5TSI? so, thoughts and opinions welcome I would say I am ready to take it to a local mechanic and drop skoda. I asked already a local shop in person. Wouldn't quote me anything but said maybe around 3-4 hundred.
  8. Hi, Sooo, as the result of a unfortunate event I seek help and advice here. I was transporting about 50 kilos of small pea gravel in the back with the seats down. Despite knowing the perils and being extremely cautious, I was cut off on the freeway and applying full brakes the container full slid and exploded resulting in a waterfall of gravel in my lap an floor!!!!! I managed to get it all cleaned out, but know my seats don't slid in the rails and the back air vent was filled with the stuff. So, my question; how do I go about removing and cleaning out both? Ant help or advice is much appreciated.
  9. Hi, I would like to get opinions or info from fellow members... I have a Fabia ii, 2012, 1.2HTP. Purchased in 10/2019 The AC blows warm air or sometimes mildly cool air. The compressor never seems to switch. I'm not sure about the fluid; can it be checked? I guess the compressor has failed. A relatively expensive part. How to be sure? And is it a easy swap? Thanks.
  10. I found the cluster number; seems I have 5E0 920 780 F ....Then no SW update???
  11. Thanks! I will be taking a trip to Skoda service. Hopefully I can get an upgrade. Is there and easy way to identify which instrument panal I have? Is there an official TPI available?
  12. I have also noticed exactly this... (Not from mirror, although its noisy too) With the prevalence of CAD and computer modeling I would think even a monkey could do a better job....they must only hire squirrels!
  13. Today, I think for the second time, my car had its data cleared. The clock was reset, trip mileage was reset, and some other stored data on the infotainment system was all reset. No idea why??? Anyone else have this happen or can offer an explanation why this would inadvertently happen? It is a 2018 1.5 TSI Octavia with Swing unit (MIB2GP)
  14. I found this: https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/sta516b.pdf I don't have a Canton system, but this has similar configuration for the guys with the ST 7561 IC
  15. Funny I thought it had something to do with my gaze/attention. I can't recall once it working when my eyes were on the road but several times I've had it work when glancing away at the radio or in the mirrors or at road signs. Someone should test this ;-P no please don't!
