  1. Yeah, I left the original one on the car and gave up on the one with the damaged threads. It really didn't take much to damage the threads either which is a bit worrying. I'm certainly not heavy handed like most spanner monkeys I know. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a spare with decent threads to refurb for the future. Seems to be holding pressure everywhere at the moment, I think I just have some ABS pump purging to do and another bleed.
  2. Ah, yeah a little there too. Not much just a little scabbing, I was reminded of it earlier when I was bleeding the brakes and looked up at the tailgate!
  3. For an 18 year old car, same as mine I really can't moan about corrosion. Maybe we've been lucky but Skoda must have done something right regarding rustproofing.
  4. Define last! If the engine goes bang you can always source another motor, as long as the shell is still solid then years. I've started doing some long overdue jobs on my VRS, rotten out backplates, brake upgrades, a sketchy brake hose and while it's off the road I've got to address some of the bubbling on the sills. Yeah my aircon doesn't work either, steering rack is leaking (again) and the damned window winder mechanisms, meh. But overall it's been, solid, reliable & nippy.
  5. Yeah the banjo fluid bolt, bloomin things. Regarding the cap headed carrier bolts I replaced those the last time around and now I own an A4, I ran into the same problem there too! I'd like to the save the caliper if possible, anyone else?
  6. While sorting out the rear calipers on the Furby, the one side seems fine, no leaks, brake comes on and off easily. The other might need a rebuild. Swapped on another caliper only the finish off stripping the internal thread. Anyone out there helicoiled their rear calipers? If so what size kit do I want? Thanks all and Seasons Greetings!
  7. Theirs isn't a great illustration but yes, thankyou part #4 it is. So it's 32mm long x M10 part number N90930902 . Yes breezy_Pete, you were correct!
  8. Hi, Fitting rear brake shields and I got out the rear rusted to hell rear bolts. I'm not putting these back in! (Part #6 x 4 each side) Are they M10 x 30 x 1.5 pitch High Tensile? I couldn't find a VAG part number so some 8.8 high tensile will do I'd imagine. Thanks in advance chaps. :)
  9. As long as they cover the bigger discs I'm stepping up to the what I've got should be fine, they're just a bit rusty! I'll find out when I come to fit the stuff. Just waiting on parts and the powder coaters to let me know the calipers are ready to be picked up. So I'll update when I've got some pics to show you!
  10. So, after a quick search, brake shields of a Volkswagen Passat B5 2001 - 2005 look like they're 312mm discs so maybe it's those. Interesting. OE NUMBER 1K0615311F
  11. I'll have to have a look at the state when I take the discs off. You should run them really, keep the dirt/muck/water off the discs. Also here's a link of interest to anyone pushing their brakes for big stops like on a trip to "The Ring" Your OEM Brakes Suck | Start Learning HOW To Improve Them Granted the above is a pretty extreme example but you can see the job the dust shield can do with some ducting.
  12. Oh they will fit. Good! Shame they're rusty! 😛 Would they Octy ones fit were I buying some new ones?
  13. Having now stripped my calipers and am sorting a shopping list it did occur to me that stepping up a disc size the existing dust shields are going to be now too small and bind. It's not the best idea to remove the dust shields / splash shields so has anyone swapped on say some Octavia ones? I've looked through a couple of swaps and those people have just removed em. Octavia Mk1 above Fabia above. Thanks
  14. I was gonna rebuild with new seals after I had them powder coated. A BMW Compact I bought a few years back had the pistons a good way out due to wear, the chrome was pitted on the one side and would only rust again so that had a new piston. The otherside was fine though. Fron hoses were shot too mind you! 😛
  15. Thankyou both for your input! Not quattro and ideally the 310's. Gotcha.
  16. Hi, I've picked up some TT calipers (and carriers) for a 312 disc swap on my Mk1 VRS. Anyone got a part number of the discs for me? Will any Mk1 TT 180/225 8N discs do? Thanks in advance.
  17. I've not been in a stock suspension VRS, mine already had B8's on the front and 25-30mm Eibachs all round. As far as I can tell the rears look to be older OEM dampers, nothing aftermarket. I said to a mate the other day even with dead rear dampers my VRS handles so much better than older Fiestas I owned in the past. Speedbumps though, bleh, damn things - it doesn't like those much. Still overall I still love it and it's the best car I've ever owned as a daily driver.
  18. So those are OEM spec for stock height by the looks of it. I need to order some myself, still torn between OEM spec Boge/Bilstein/KYB's. As mine is 1" lower I may need some B8 Sprints. Either way I'm bound to need new bump stops too as they frequently are knackaard! Anything will be better than I have at the moment though!
  19. Wow, such an amazing build with great attention to detail. Kudos to you on your build, cars and garage too...
