  1. All sorted. The problem was down to EuroCarParts numbering. Not an on the shelf part so visible comparison not possible, instead they ordered one in. What came in the box bore no resemblance whatsoever to an Octavia calliper, or any other VW group calliper so they tried again, the second attempt brought an identical part to the first attempt so clearly Euros error, hence my original question. Instead I bit the bullet, went to the main dealer who got me the correct part next day. a bit dearer but at least its a new calliper not refurbished.
  2. Advice required pls, my 68 plate mk 3 diesel estate has a leaking off side front brake caliper. Already too many miles for a warranty claim so I went to Eurocarparts. Part ordered by registration number for next day delivery, then what they gave me was completely different to the caliper on the car. Does anyone know if the caliper was ever changed during the mk 3 lifespan, maybe at facelift? Euros will order another to check right part was in the box. Any advice much appreciated.
  3. You are right, as soon as the minus temperatures returned then so did the creaking though not as loud as last winter.
  4. Thanks for reply. I've just double checked, Skoda website>book a service>select vehicle>select dealer>select first service from menu and its £179 fixed. Maybe the interim oil change service is all thats required @19000 miles, I agree its an expensive oil change but probably necessary to maintain the warranty. There's an independent specialist called Jean Pierre on my doorstep, could be worth considering. Again anyone got any experience of them?
  5. My 2018 Octavia 1.6Hdi Estate will soon need a first service (@19000 miles). Easy enough to book on the Skoda website except there's no Skoda main dealer in the City of Southampton. Options are Sparshatts of Botley, Meadens of Brockenhurst or Winchester Motor Company. The service can't be a major job as the website shows a fixed price of £179 for a first service, so I'm looking for a while u wait appointment. So the question is does anyone have any previous experience I can share to decide which of the 3 dealers is best for a service, especially a while I wait service. I would imagine all could do the job equally well so timekeeping would be my main concern, in and out ASAP is good for me. Any advice most welcome.
  6. Good news. At 10,000 miles the creaking disappeared. Fingers crossed it won't return so it can be put down to 'running in'
  7. I purchased a new Octavia estate last October from a dealer in Inverness to be delivered to Southampton. Almost immediately I noticed steering was noisier than I would expect, there was fairly loud squeaking when turning the wheel at low speed. Too far from the dealer to ask them to take a quick look but as luck would have it I met a VAG roadside assistance guy just finishing another job. As he also covered Skodas he offered to take a quick look. Diagnosis was N/S/F macpherson strut top mount creaking. He tried to get some WD40 into the mount without success but said its non urgent so wait till 1st service. I would assume this would be done under warranty. Anyone else experience anything similar on a new car?
  8. I mistakenly thought all bolero/amundsen units were the same regardless of Skoda model, so I ordered myself a tempered glass protector to suit 2017/2018 models. What I got didn't fit my 2018 Octavia. I now believe its for a Kodiaq or Karoq circa 2017/18. I'm not going to attempt to cut it or return it to China so its free to anyone who can collect it. Its rectangular in shape, dimensions are 255mm wide x 135mm high, 2 x 30mm diameter holes for knobs 215mm apart and 15mm from bottom edge to centre of holes. Still in original packaging, protective film layer undisturbed. Collect from Nursling, Southampton, first come first served, Richard 07825 350953
  9. Hello to all. I picked up my first Skoda this week after 3 Citroen C5 estates in a row. On day one I had the fan running/burning smell issue, initial panic was relaxed when the forum here advised its quite normal. On day two I had the random speedo/rev counter illumination brightness issue, again I'm more relaxed as I read I'm not alone, it appears the car could even be designed this way. Any more eventualities and this site is the first place I'll check. A big thank you to all for providing answers before I have the questions.
