  1. Will be interested to see pics Bill, but I fear it may look a little 'off road' with 17s fitted. Eibach Pro-Kit may then become your friend? :)

I'd go with T1-Rs, ordered from Camskill.co.uk for best prices. Next-day delivery is included in already very competitive pricing. Alternatively Kumho KU-31.

EDIT: On reflection of your posted needs, I'd probably go for Uniroyal RainSport 1s. But they do tend to be a bit noisier than others.

    Steve

    Thank you Steve,

Can get Kumho's at cheapo price so will take your advice and go with these. Guess my note re-anti aqua planing brought Uniroyal iinto the frame, but the "noisier" aspect knocks them back out. I'll get a check price though.

Considering -20mm on Weitec's from local Jabba agent.

I'll send pics on the standard suspension.

  2. To my knowledge, I don't know anyone that's tried 205/45/17.

I'm running 215/40/17 now and I'm fairly impressed with the ride. Slightly less compliancy, as you can imagine, but good nonetheless. I am running FSDs these days though, which I know is helping a fair bit. I ran the same size wheel and tyre on my 1st Fabia and it was a bit more 'crashy'. What suspension setup do you have?

    Steve

    Bog standard.

On balance i think I'll opt for the 215/40/17's. Now that that's taken care of the next question is; what is likely to be the most compliant tyre? - along with anti aqua planing qualities that's more of a priority than wet/dry grip.

Any suggestions are welcome but be quick please I need to fit the 17's tomorrow!!!

  3. Car looks great.

Like you, I've just acquired a mint set of 17" mk1 Octy alloys and I reckon nothing looks better on the Fabia vRS. I think we're not alone, the prices on ebay just keep going up and up.

One thing I must ask; what size of tyres did you choose?

  4. Can't offer advice on rubbing etc - but a 'given' is a harder ride and the possibility of more punctures due to potholes.

That's precisely the point; I wish to avoid the "given" by choosing the 45 in preference to the recommended 40 aspect.

What I'm hoping for is input from anyone who has gone ahead and fitted the 45 to their 17" rims.

  5. I'm changing from 16" x 6.5" to 17" x 7" on my Fabia vRS. Current tyre size is 205/45/16.

The optimum tyre size is 205/40/17 which gives a sidewall of 3.2" - a reduction of 0.4" compared with the existing. To maintain a similar sidewall (and comfort factor) I'd need to fit 205/45/17. I'm aware this would increase the dymanic rolling radius by 0.5" and the speedo will read 4.3% slow but have any of you guys already fitted this size and what is your opinion? Are there any issues with rubbing on adjacent bits for instance?

Or, what about 215/40/17? Comfort factor isn't as good as 45, but better than 40, and the other factors are pretty close to the optimum. I take it that 215's are fine on 7" rims.

    Any informed input appreciated.

  6. Thinking of starting a noise catalog for my car.

    1. At low speeds with small amounts of throttle, it whistles gently. Not a clue about this one but no combination of light braking, handbrake etc seems to affect it.

    2. Plant the right foot and something turbo-y makes a ga-rummph sort of noise between 2000 and 2500 rpm. Learning to live with this one.

    3. Low speed rattle when gently traversing wobbly bits of road.

    4. Bl**dy huge CLONK when carrying anything in the boot or recovering from a speed hump. (This one I have to check out further as it's a mite worrying). Hopefully it's no more than an exhaust/ARB interface problem.

    5. Trim buzzing when using the hi-fi.

    6. Very slight dash buzzing/rattling every now and then, seemingly behind the clocks.

    7. gearstick very occasionally rattles a bit when stationary.

    J.

Got your niggles, plus others, in my Fabia vRS - seems to be part of the vRS experience! At low speed, especially over rough surfaces, I get a new buzz/vibe/clonk almost every time I drive it. Can be b****y infuriating at times though. However, all of these are soon forgotten as the car gets up-to-speed; then it never fails to remind me of the reason I bought it in the first place - it's a "buzz" of another sort, isn't it?

In my view, you either have to learn to live with the niggles, or sell it on. If you can't/don't, sooner or later you'll end up hating it, big time. I've almost been there, believe me!

There might be others here on the forum who have relatively niggle-free vRS's. Be interesting to hear from them.

  7. Couldn't have imagined I'd write a positive testament about a dealership, but am compelled to do so as a result of two recent visits to Henry's Skoda, Glasgow.

Their quality engineer, Stephen Christie, is attentive, knowledgeable and thorough. He's the sort of guy who makes you feel that in choosing Henry's you've made a wise decision. Their sales manager, Keir Dunlop, is also to be commended. If other members of staff share the same qualities then Henry's can look forward to more positive feedbacks on this forum.

    Don't let it slip guys.

  8. Its quite obvious that the reviewer has never been in a Fabia vRS before.

Typical I would say for a 'Press' Newspaper magazine journalist

I'm not too sure about "before"; he probably has been in a vRS, but with fabric seats; I agree though, he's never been in a vRS SE. Auto Express readers take note - don't believe all you read.

  9. Just read the Auto Express review:"Skoda Fabia vRS".

    Here's an extract:

"All good things must come to an end............ And what better way to do it than with the flagship vRS. Called simply the Limited, this last-of-the-line.......and there's a real upmarket ambience thanks to the dashboard coverings and seat fabrics, which still look and feel very smart................once this vRS is gone, it will certainly be missed........."

From the review heading, there's no doubting the car is the Racing Blue SE. That being so, how the reviewer can describe the gorgeous leather, individually numbered and monogrammed seats as "seat fabrics, which still look and feel very smart" is kinda weird, don't you think? Or, is there another explanation which I'm missing?

  10. Edited the original pic - erased the eyebrows. If you copy both of these, then shuttle between them, you should be able to judge for yourselves whether or not the eyebrows achieve the desired objective: to reduce the "tallness" on frontal aspect. I hope this is helpful and allows you to decide if eyebrows are the things for you guys.

  11. where can i get some of these eyebrows?

    Hi there,

I got these on ebay - seller, jrapley. The quality of workmanship and snugness of fit are not brill but I was able to fettle them with a file to a standard that was acceptable. The outer surface, obviously the most important for appearance's sake, is okay though and with wet and dry prior to/after priming the final result was excellent. I attached to the headlight using clear silicone sealer then used masking tape to hold in position, overnight, while sealer set.

You can get eyebrows from other sources (Butts of Bawtry being one that springs to mind) but expect to pay considerably more.

  12. You need to use at least three tank fulls of it to notice any real difference. I used it whilst I was on a nine week course during which I did about 1800 miles and I did notice a big difference, particularly the extra zip and less noise from cold. There wasn't much of a difference in price where I filled up, at least not the 10p a litre extra near where I live.

The only problem I found was as I did not continue to use it and put normal diesel in the car took a while to adjust and it didn't run as well. It was a bit like the cold turkey effect.

Could use ordinary BP diesel and a shot of Millers Sport 4?

Inputs from you and many of the other's have convinced me to persist with the Ultimate for a another 2 or 3 fill-ups, despite the consequential damage to my bank balance!

    Thanks, all.

  13. At last fill-up, I decided to try BP Ultimate diesel in my standard spec. Fabia vRS.

Although the premuim was 10p/litre, I still though it was worth a try. BP's advertising hints at 10% performance improvement due to higher rating.

Can't say I notice any difference though.

    Won't be filling-up with this again.:thumbdwn:

  14. Just so we don't get our wires crossed were talking to Richbrook about getting a batch done, just waiting for a new cheque book really...

If anybody else is using the logo / having talks could you be so kind as to let me know or mail webmaster at briskoda.net an update, it's use is restricted to written permission anyway.

We are also looking at some plastic ones as part of the freedom pack or generally available.

In my recent post I used the word "manufacturer" as I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to mention Richbrook's name at this point.

I certainly have no knowledge of anybody else intending to use the logo. Trust this un-crosses the wires.

  15. In the two weeks since returning from the dealer there has been no recurrence of the engine "rattle". Seems now that Stephen, Henry's Skoda was right after all - vibration/noise source was loose engine cover.

Many thanks, however, to all who gave of their time to comment on the subject.

  16. even though your rattle seems to have gone , please take heed of the previous warnings re the DMF and full power from low revs , they are not common for going but it won't last forever if loaded excessively

Thanks for the advice. I've already taken on board all of the inputs on rpm and full throttle.

  17. Have you checked the engine bay for anything thats come loose?

Also check the exhaust, sometimes a bolt is slightly loose or a heat shield some where or even a rubbing hanger.

It sounds more like a physical problem then an engine problem based on what you have described.

My thread really attracted some serious interest, including some scary stuff on DMF

implications and driving technique. Perhaps my definition - "rattle" - encouraged this. Your suggestion got little response but could just have been spot-on. I said in my latest post, it was too early yet to decide if the dealer's diagnosis - loose engine cover - was the full answer. However, on an extended drive, tonight, I must say, the rattle seems to have ceased. I'll continue to monitor.
