My Skoda App
Definitely gone and it seems to think the last time I connected was a year ago, also doesn't know what model of car it is though it does have the VIN correct. One for the Skoda App people I think. I did find a new option to download Connect Lite for which I need a data plug, £40 from Skoda or a fiver on eBay from an outfit that purports to be a Vauxhall dealer and do have a VW outlet, looks fun so will give that try.

My Skoda App
Loaded this for the first time in ages today, I'm certain it used to contain my cars service history but despite searching all over not a sign, have they taken this feature out? As there's no service book to get stamped nowadays I thought it was meant to be on line or are we just going back to clutching a pile of paper invoices?

Servicing Question
My second service in Surrey was just under £250 including the pollen filter.

Air con service after two years?
I was raised on BMC cars, a different world, plugs and points every weekend and you could go to the parts counter and they'd have whatever little lock washer from the bowels of the engine you might need. Amazing we're still here considering the amount of brake drums we must have brushed out.

Car emergency brakes in reverse when not needed
Mine does that too, at the apiary I have to reverse up a little Lane to turn round, every so often a dangling stinging nettle will slam the brakes on, as it's skittish ground it always sounds like I've grounded and hit the bottom on something, it sounds and feel s awful but I know there's nothing there apart from a nettle. Driving slowly doesn't seem to help, it does it when the nettle makes the display turn red. Not sure if turning the parking warning off helps or not. As it would stop me hitting a pedestrian or a bollard in other circumstances I feel it is one of the better safety devices.

Crossroads - decision time ?
I think it would cease because the contract was between me and the insurers and I've just died. It's a question I've been meaning to ask my insurers, not just for car but also house and contents insurance where you can put another name on the policy. Currently utilities are all in my name, again might be one less thing for a widow to worry about if they're put in joint names. No imminent plans to depart but I am getting to an age where such things need to be thought about.

Air con service after two years?
I had my second service at 18000 miles last week. Advisory items included an a/c service (recommended every 2 years) for £139. Some years ago I read it was better to keep air con on all the time to avoid the seals drying out and having done that can't say I've had any issues at least not after two years. Also advised an antibacterial cleanse of a/c and interior (recommended every 12 months) for £39.99. Again, never noticed any funny smells and not too worried about my germs in the car, they must be all over the house. Key Fob battery replacement (recommended every 2 years), at £4.69 didn't think that was too bad so will probably take both keys in next time. Advised to replace wiper blades as noisy, been like that at times almost since new, at £37.20 again didn't think that was too bad but as this seems to be a common issue I'd rather take suggestions on here from people that have had the same issue and choose the make of blade myself. Cost for the service was £249.20, this did include a pollen filter. Sadly these covid days no wash and vac but you do get a video of the underside of your car. Interestingly the oil on the invoice was Castrol Edge 0W-20 which looking at the Castrol site doesn't seem to have a VAG rating, at the last service they used a 5W-30. The switch to the 5W-30 resulted in a small but immediate increase in fuel consumption while going back to 0W-20 which I think was the original spec has resulted in an immediate drop in consumption.

Crossroads - decision time ?
I thought JKW's questions about possible death during a contract were one's that a dealer selling a financial product should have been able to answer. Decades since I studied any law but I suspect there would be something buried in the contract that it ends up with the estate of the deceased to settle which likely involves early termination fees, hopefully not so steep as they'd probably be should you just decide to end early. Often wonder about the car insurance issue as though my wife is a named driver my policy must automatically cease when I die meaning my wife would no longer be covered. As ownership of the car passes to her and also because it has no valid insurance at that point the driving other cars insurance on her own policy would be ineffective. I wonder how many recently widowed partners are driving around in uninsured cars immediately after a partners death while sorting out death certificates, funerals etc, I suspect thinking about car insurance isn't much on your mind.

Dashcam
Is that the rear view camera that sticks to the tailgate window and needs a very long cable run or is it the rear view camera that attaches directly to the dashcam, if the latter where did you fix it, I rather thought either the rear view mirror or one of the sun visors would obstruct the view to the rear? Very useful to have if you're rear ended.

Automatic Braking
I've set mine to minimum but still get false alarms. A couple of times it flashed up the warning going round a bend when it sensed a large estate agents to let board on the verge but not consistent as it won't do it every time. This morning the brakes came on momentarily on a country lane, have to wonder if that was light related? I've only had the brakes come on a couple of times both times needlessly and dangerously with following traffic but that was before I changed the sensitivity.

Servicing lead times
They did send me a video of the underside of my car telling me the exhaust and brakes were in great shape but I'd hope so after 9000 miles. But in another year when it's out of warranty should I really have to wait 6 weeks to get something fixed. This isn't covid related, I've had a skoda since 2012 and the wait to get into the workshop has always seemed overlong but to be fair to skoda it seems pretty common. Too many cars not enough garages maybe.

Servicing lead times
Thought I'd ring up to find out how far ahead I'd need to book a service as even pre Covid it could be a couple of weeks plus. As it turned out as it's just the 2nd service which is just an oil change that could be squeezed in a couple of weeks but anything else would be sometime in September. Not sure I'd be very happy being careless for 6 weeks if my car developed a problem. This is Surrey is it the same elsewhere?
