  1. My 2016 Yeti 2.0, 4x4 has decided to destroy it gearbox. A new one is financially unviable and I would appreciate any pointers towards finding a replacement, or alternatives from the VAG range. Many thanks folks, and Merry Christmas.
  2. So the day before I was going to do my oil change it decided to spit all of its gearbox oil onto the drive. Its now languishing at my local garage in disgrace. So they may as well change the oil as well.
  3. Batteries now seem to fail within a few months of their warranty expiring. I don't know how they do this, but it seems to have been the case for several years. Saying that, I bought a 10-year-old Nissan X Trail that still had its original battery in good working order.
  4. Well, my local garage has now managed to price themselves out of doing my basic servicing, and so it's back to DIY. It's a 2012 Yeti 2.0 diesel, can anyone tell me what size socket I need to open the oil filter housing? I believe its 32mm, but as I will have to buy one, it's better to double check Many thanks
  5. Hi everyone. I have recently had the clockspring replaced by my local garage with a genuine part. He has reset the air bag light and the horn, telephone and radio controls are working. However the righthand roller switch doesn't work meaning I am unable to reset the clock or change the information display. The garage has had the car back twice now, and are unable to sort it out. Would I be correct in thinking I need a specialist or are we missing something obvious? I have even considered the possibility of a faulty unit. As I live out in the wilds of Aberystwyth Skoda dealers are non existent so any recommendations would be most welcome. Thanks.
  6. We need to bear in mind that insurance companies are in the game to make money, and will use any excuse to not pay out on a claim. We may think they are harmless additions or modifications but the insurance company may take a different view of things. A friend back in the 80s wanted to fit an XR2 front grill onto his basic Fiesta. He asked the insurance company if it mattered and they wanted to double his premium because it made the car "more theft attractive".
  7. Good evening everyone. Went out tonight and noticed a faint "clicking" noise when I turned the steering wheel. There was no resistance and I sort of ignored it. Now the airbag light has come on and the horn and radio controls don't work. Working on the assumption that something has come loose, where should I start looking, and will I need to remove the airbag unit? Many thanks in advance.
  8. You will have to pay VAT as you would here, and whatever local tax may apply, but when you bring it back to the UK there will be nothing more to pay in the way of taxes or duties. There will be a small charge for registering it with the DVLA but the Irish/EU paperwork will cover all of that. What happens when we crash out of the EU in December is anyone's guess, but I am assuming it wont be easier or cheaper. A few years ago cars in the Republic were considerably cheaper than here and several enterprising companies sprang up who would handle all the dealings for you and still save you money. My father did this when he bought a new Peugeot a few years ago.
  9. If you are really keen on having the grey interior from an Irish car, why not approach an Irish dealer. In the dying days of our EU membership you will be able to get one imported to the UK VAT and tariff free. It would make a nice little trip over to drive one back. And naturally it will be right hand drive.
  10. I recently did a trip from Slough to Aberystwyth and I have a 2ltr manual Yeti. I averaged 71.3 mpg from Slough to Swindon when I left the motorway, and overall the trip back to Aberystwyth averaged 63.1 mpg. I thought that was pretty good.
  11. Now you know why I live in a small town.
  12. Now you are talking. Can you still get Dymo tape?
  13. Back to the good old days of writing it on the sun visor
  14. To be honest I mainly just wanted to wanted to replace the tyre pressure information because it means I don't have to remember them.
  15. Thanks for replying guys. The car has had no panels replaced, its just that someone has removed the stickers. You can still see the outline of where they used to be. I guess a trip to a dealer will be in order.
  16. Hi everyone. I have just bought a 2012 Yeti 4x4 Elegance, its a lovely car but a previous owner has removed the information stickers from the door pillar and filler cap cover. Are these available to buy, I presume they can be bought from Skoda but I have found little things like that come with a big price. Any and all suggestions are gratefully received.
  17. I have returned to the world of Skodas after a dalliance with Ford and Nissan. Its good to be back.
