Dreadful start to ownership
Garage said caliper was fried. When I came back from teh short run I could feel teh heat from that wheel from over a metre away. I have a good relationship with the garage so I am inclined to trust him.

Dreadful start to ownership
Thanks all, I'll try and find out more about the charger to see if I can charge in situ. It looks like it is 5Ah so less than 10% that the manual states is a slow charge so sounds feasible. 2016, Mileage is 98K, I had booked a full service and timing belt as no evidence of that and needed a service. Local VAG place doing that. The inside and bodywork is in good order but the panels are definitely misaligned in places. MOT history says crash damage early in its life but it was never written off. He only charged £5500 so it was a decent price if it didn't have all these early issues. I'm stuck with it now and I'm hoping once the teething problems are out the way it will be as good as my Mk 2 which has required a couple of springs, front discs and pads and a few tyres in the 50K I have done

Dreadful start to ownership
Looked through the infotainment manual online and it doesn't mention any security codes. Still a wee bit unsure if I can take the battery out the car to charge with the 5Ah charger I am getting. and the car will recognise it when replaced and hopefully back to a good charge

Dreadful start to ownership
My wife bought her brothers Superb Mk iii a couple of weeks back against my advice. I just got a feeling and decided against it without even driving it. She took it a quick spin and bought it straight away. It lay in the drive while we sorned the other car and got insurance etc and then I took it for a run after it had sat about a week. First turn of the wheels and it felt all wrong. Clearly a brake was sticking and as it had sat I decided to drive round the block to see if it freed itself. IT felt sluggish and not as nippy as my MK 2 Superb estate. After about 3 miles I turned for home and hit a pothole taking a tyre out. Nursed it home and it lay in the drive while I sourced smaller alloys to change the ridiculous 19" ones it came with. Booked the garage, changed the alloys for 18"s which was all I could find local and it sat for another week. Started it to go to garage and it just got started and flashed a start stop warning. Anyhows the garage just cam back and it needs new discs and pads and a rear calliper. That will be another week before they could do it as they are struggling at the moment. Drove it home and dash was warning after warning, ABS, start stop, etc etc. So I have another week and a battery that is low or goosed. I ordered a smart charger as my old one was not going to do the job. I got this one after a bit of reading and hopefully it will turn up tomorrow or Sunday. The question is should I pull the battery out to charge which is what I always have done or leave it in place. If left in place do I disconnect the negative terminal and attach the charger to positive and an earth point. Lastly does the radio etc have a code. The radio is the standard one with the 2.0 tdi 150 se executive. The car came with no booklets so I don't have a code. It may be under the passenger seat but the little compartment will not open so who knows. At least it was cheap but I will end up paying what I could have got another one for possibly an estate which I favour and I doubt I will trust it for a long time.

Door and window issue
I have an issue with my MK 2 Superb Estate. My wife couldn't get the drivers door to open this morning. She ended up climbing over and it drove fine home. The door wouldn't even open from the inside. When she got home I tried my key and it all worked fine. Windows and doors no problem. As I was locking the car I noticed I had left the passenger window open so went back into the car and I couldn't get it to shut from the driver's side button. It closed fine with the button on the passenger side. The door is now opening and closing fine but the windows and mirrors are not working from the drivers side controls. Any ideas on what the issue is. I am presuming it is wiring given it is intermittent but no idea really

Swing head unit distortion from speaker
My first week with my Superb is now complete and I'm very happy with the car with the exception of the head unit and speakers. The seller did say the passenger door speaker suffered from distortion so I was aware when buying but it needs fixed. The radio reception is also terrible on MW which is what I normally listen to. My plan is to fit a new head unit with DAB, preferably OEM. The car has bluetooth with voice control and a shark fin but probably the one without DAB aerial. The steering wheel controls don't seem to move tracks when connected to bluetooth though. I'm not fussed with Sat Nav just want a decent radio, bluetooth and speakers that work. What is the best way to get OEM DAB while maintaining the current bluetooth functions and also what is the most obvious place to start fixing the speaker. Thanks

1.6TDi Fuel Filter
Will do. It will get a really good clean and some rust protector in the next week or two

1.6TDi Fuel Filter
Thanks to @gav_is_con for the help. The Superb is now mine. The damp patch on the fuel filter lid was water and after giving it a decent wipe it only has some mild surface rust. I've waited a long time for a new car and for a Superb cheap enough for me to justify and new enough that I should be able to keep it for a good few years all being well. So far all I have found that is an issue is a crackly passenger side speaker, intermittent and a heater that only worked on number 4. I got a new heater resistor to fix that and will monitor to see if the issue is caused elsewhere and blowing the resistor. I changed the pollen filter which was pretty rank and that has improved the airflow so that is all good and for less than 30 quid combined. I'll take a look at the speaker when I get more time. I also managed to get the bluetooth set up and that is working fine too but the volume when you hit the voice button is way too loud. Not sure if that can be changed but I'll have a good look. Thanks again Gav

1.6TDi Fuel Filter
Thanks, that confirms everything I have read. I'll try and see if it is water or diesel but I don't have a sense of smell. I'll also take a torch and have a good look at the Aux belt. I'd looked at ebay so can see lots of used units and my plan will be to do the same as you did and buy a second hand replacement and fit myself.

1.6TDi Fuel Filter
Hi, I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2014 Superb Estate 1.6 TDi S. It has 107K on it and had the cambelt done a couple of years ago at 80K. I looked at the car today and it suits my needs very well and we bargained the price to a very reasonable £4450. The only issue I noticed was the top of the fuel filter was wet. Not sure if it was fuel or overspill from the windscreen fluid which the chap said he filled that day. Looking online it appears that fuel filters with these cars can be problematic and require software to get fuel in and prime after the filter has been changed. I didn't see any fuel running down the sides of the filter and it was gathered in the cup where the four fuel lines attach. These have clips which all looked to be in place. My top was pretty rusty so perhaps there is a pinprick leak and the fuel is coming from the housing up through that leak and gathering in the top of the housing. That or perhaps one of the pipes has hardened and is not sealing or isn't clamped properly. I'm fine with paying a garage to put a new housing and filter in as I think the price of the car warrants some niggles but my real issue and question to you all is will this have caused damage to DPFs or any other parts. I'm going to look again and probably purchase tomorrow so any help would be very useful. The car started fine, it was warm though, and drove very well. No warning lights and pulled well through the gears and ticked over as you would want and expect. Thanks in advance
