  1. Hi, need to get both of these things done and just want a price-check on what they should cost from a decent garage. Edit: should have specified, 2014 Octavia MK III, 2.0 TDI CR Thanks! ob
  2. Thanks but those aren't the same as the one in the pic in my first post. Do you have reason to believe they're compatible even though they're not the same?
  3. ECP? Are you sure? Can you link me to ECP if it comes up for you or tell me what you search for, didn't come up for me. Cheers! There's no quick ebay/amazon ones i found. I've had a trawl through the google results and https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/ seems best but still potentially couple of days to arrive.
  4. Ta, that was where I got it from so hope it's the right one. Now just got to find one!
  5. Hi All, Can anyone confirm if 06K103485A is the correct part number for oil filler cap for 2014 MK III 2.0 TDI. Or can someone tell me if this look like their oil filler cap: https://www.lllparts.co.uk/product/volkswagen-06k103485a-end-cap/mpn/06k103485a And where can I get one on short notice? I was assuming GSF/ECP would have a suitable OEM replacement but they bring up nothing. Cheers! ob
  6. I had a look at @mgt 396's scout and other than these two issues just mentioned it was in excellent condition so if he's getting them sorted it's a v. good deal for anyone looking and i would be v. interested if I was still in the market for one
  7. just found out it's off a Leaseplan lease. not main dealer service, but regularly serviced and cambeltjust done. FSH given from leaseplan although it doesn't go into detail in last 20k miles it's got 'READ ECU FAULT CODES' around the time of the last MOT, and 'TESTING AND DIAGNOSIS' twice around the time of this MOT which was just done in June
  8. What do people reckon about a younger but very high mileage car. I've just found a 2.0 TDI CR, 2014 with 170k miles on, but full dealership service history (allegedly) and company car that looks like it's had a solid 30k/year on it so assuming that was just a long commute and engine has been taken care of, could be a good deal? It's a bit over my budget but for peace of mind, and assuming the major stuff has been taken care of by a dealership could be a good deal? Cheers!
  9. yeah right now for all the cars i'm looking at cluthc + flywheel is my biggest worry for something that might go wrong and cost me £600-1000 to sort out later. if it hasn't been done, wondering if there's a way to check for the life left in it? or any signs of imminent failure? (some of the cars I'm looking at come with warranty but I always make the assumption that these won't pay for anything that they have any chance of classing as 'wear and tear' which is most things on a 100k miles car)
  10. Thanks all for the advices! Decided on probably a 1.9 TDI at at least Ambience trim level, probably Elegance. There are a few good L&K's around but they get priced so high and I'm not too bothered about leather seats or electric seat control. I really really enjoy the extra bit of oomf from the 2.0 so kind of depends what I find first that's in my price range and seems decent. Seems like the reputation of the 2.0 TDI isn't nearly as good as the 1.9 TDI so I'm wondering why that is and what I should be looking for if I'm looking at 2.0's? But I started collecting that in another thread here: Cheers ob
  11. I've started my search for a used Oktavia 1.9 or 2.0 TDI Estate, and been to see a few. Realised that I'm not very well prepared with any gotchas for these cars in particular and anything beyond the basics when it comes to used cars in general. So looking for tips/advice on anything specific to this car, or if anyone has general used car checklists those would be appreciated too! I'm looking at a 1.9 or 2.0 TDI estate, at least Ambient trim level, probably Elegance, L&K's seem to be way overpriced. Looking at around £2500-£3000 mark, which right now on average means 2007-2010 models with 100-120k miles. Stuff I've got so far: Things I know how to check for: - Cambelt / water pump change - check for evidence in service history - Obvious visual things with engine - oil leaks, gunk under oil cap, smokey exhaust - A/C - check it blows cold - Moisture in headlamps - visual check Stuff that I don't know how to check for / don't know if it's important: - Dualmass fly wheel? - Life left in clutch. - Front springs - Turbo - ABS warning light on the dashboard - Warning lights on dash - what's important? - Is it possible to visually check to see if cambelt has likely been changed? - ... ? Cheers all 🙂 ob Pages where I took info from: https://www.breakerlink.com/blog/cars/skoda-octavia-common-problems/ https://www.carbuyer.co.uk/tips-and-advice/154636/used-skoda-octavia-buying-guide-2004-2013-mk2
  12. Hi All, I've got £2-4k to spend on a 2nd hand Octavia estate and I'm after a bit of help figuring out which year/engine to go for - what to check and what to avoid. Main use will be long trips in Europe where I'll mostly be going 70-80mph. So my main priorities are reliability and fuel economy first, then next is being a quiet ride and being a bit fun on the autobahn/overtaking and having cruise control. The scout looks good, 4wd and a little bit more rugged might be useful for the occasional off-road track or beach trip. Cheers, all help appreciated, or if this questions already been asked somewhere sorry! i did have a search for buyers guides. ob
  13. So I've been trawling eBay for cars that fit what I want, but I'm at the start of the process and there are really a _lot_ of options, especially as I haven't quite decided if I want an estate or not. I'm also seeing a ton of different engines and having a hard time collecting together all the advice about which engines are good and which are not (e.g. there are some TDI PD's that are only good before a certain year... 1.9 is better than 2.0.. all very hard to keep track of) I'll list the things that are important and not important to me and I'm open to all suggestions/advice. Important: - I live half the year in Greece, and I'm going to do the drive to Athens and back a couple of times a year. Priorities in this order 1 - Reliability of engine / understanding potential issues. I would like to buy a specific engine/model so that I can read up on what faults it has and see if those have been taken care of. If I need to get it fixed in Albania or something, that'll be a PITA. 2 - Fun to drive. When I'm in Germany I'd love to have something that I can have a bit of fun with, and also whilst, err 'overtaking' on other countries. A quiet smooth ride would be nice. 3 - Fuel efficiency. I will be doing mostly really long runs, not much about-town stuff at all. I'd like at least 50mpg reliably. 4 - I don't care about looks, but a/c and cruise control would be nice. 5 - I definitely want 4 door Don't care: - Looks, superficial condition - Size: as long as it's got at least 4 doors I actually don't care between e.g. small Fabia and Octavia estate - fuel efficiency much bigger factor Budget: £2-4k. I don't mind spending at the top end of this, but if I can find something alright towards the lower end that's fine with me - I don't care much about looks Thanks a lot of any advice (and opinions 😉) ob
  14. Hi All, I'm not a Skoda owner, but looking to buy one for a bit of a road trip around Europe. I've owned old BMW 3 series and Golf Mk3's before, so interested to see how Skodas compare. Cheers ob
