  1. I've managed to get a pair of Merle HD ones with ball joints for £114 delivered from a company called JGP (Just German Parts) after scouring the Internet
  2. Cheers mate. I will look out for the 2 recommended.
  3. Just rang skoda £156 each side without the ball joint no thanks. Can anyone recommend decent patten ones.
  4. Hi all. Last year at the Mot I got an advisory on the front suspension arm rear bushes being worn on both sides. I'm going down the route of replacing the whole arm with ball joint already attached. I will be doing the job myself with a friend giving me help. I have a few questions if I may. Is it advisable to change the drop links while I'm on, will the tracking need re-done after doing the job, is it best to use skoda original parts or is patten parts OK as I've noticed they are quite cheap to buy online as a unit. Cheers Colin.
  5. Breezy Pete I stand corrected yes your right the engine mount just needs removed out of the way the engine does not need to move. Went to TPS & picked up the new engine mount bolts there were 7 in total.
  6. That's what I meant drivers side engine mount to lower the engine giving access to the timing belt. The belts only done 48,000 mile but its been just over 4yr since it was changed so just been a bit cautious as I absolutely love the car. I phoned pullman skoda who said they would have to order the engine mount bolts in & they could only supply a bulk bag costing over £120 so i rang a company called TPS who can sell me the 6 bolts needed for £21.60
  7. Hi all. I'm about to have my 2002 skoda octavia 1.9 sdi in for its 2nd cam belt, water pump & auxiliary belt change 1st one done at 31,000 due to age of belt car is now on 79,000 & just over 4yr later. My question is is it advisable to change the engine mount bolts after dropping the engine to change the cam belt. And also how many bolts will I need I have counted what I can see and it looks like 6 bolts in total.
  8. Yes much better than it was but pedal still feels a little soft for my liking. Might try bleeding the system again
  9. Did not get a breakdown just said replace brake master cylinder and bleed system £276
  10. Hi all. The brake pedal on my skoda octavia was slowly going down while sat in traffic. I took it to my local garage who tried bleeding the system but said they were unable to as they said the master cylinder was at fault. They have now replaced the brake master cylinder and charged £276 with labour costs which seamed a bit steep to me. I have looked on different sites & the master cylinders range from anywhere between £35 to £85. Unless he has ordered in a genuine skoda part this seams a bit expensive to me your thoughts, experience would be appreciated cheers colin.
  11. Hi all have an issue with the driver & passenger electric windows on my 2005 skoda fabia mk1 1.9 tdi Around Jan the electric windows stopped working on both sides I never got round to investigating the issue however they both started working again around april time without doing anything. Came to use the car yesterday and again they are not working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks colin.
  12. Thanks for the reply Mac. I ended up going to my local car accessory shop. Was looking at 3 options Bosh one was £98 Napa £84 and Excide was £76 i went with Napa as it had better specifications 74a & 680cca compared to Bosh which was 70a & 640cca and Excide was 68a & 640cca all came with a 3yr warranty also my key fob is back working happy days.
  13. Hi all car battery is on it's way out looking for recommendations for a decent battery. My car is a 2002 octavia 1.9 sdi. Most garages ie national tyres, kwikfit, ats autominster all sell only one brand called Platinum for £104 fitted. Or my local shop sell an Excide battery for £76. Don't mind fitting myself as easy job. I have also noticed since I had to jump start the car my remote key fob now only locks the doors it will not open them is this due to the car battery not having enough juice to unlock or will my fob need re-coded. Thanks in advance Colin.
  14. Thanks for the replys guys. Mac could do with maybe a bit stiffer but don't want it any lower will the b6 springs be the same ride height cheers colin
  15. Hi all , I have had my Octavia sdi just over a year & in this time I have noticed the front end being a bit soft. The shockers seem to we working fine as when I push down on car they come to rest after 1 bounce however the front seems to be sitting a bit low & on a couple of occasions hitting a pot hole it has made a thudding sound as if the car is bottoming out. Has anyone else come over issues with front springs on there Sdi & could recommend any make I'm currently looking at bilstein ones. Car has very low miles 45,000 your help will be greatly appreciated cheers colin.
  16. Thanks for the recommendations guys. Quantum platinum 5w40 ordered. Many thanks.
  17. Hi all looking at changing the oil soon and debating whether to use semi synthetic or Fully synthetic the car is a Mk1 Octavia 1.9 SDI with low very low miles 31000. Looking through previous posts fully synthetic 5w40 is the one people seem to favour for this engine. Thanks Colin.
  18. Well the switch is working. I done a bulb test on the wires in the hatch I made a good earth and as you are looking at the hatch there is 1 wire on the left side & 2 on the right side the top wire on the right side lit the bulb up when touched so that must be the live feed & the other two must be earth's. I will check it again when the screen is misted up. Other than that I don't no where else to look. Anyway thanks for the replys I will keep you posted cheers Colin.
  19. Ok thanks at least it eliminates that. I will have a look at the switch and the tailgate area for any signs of breakage. Many thanks Colin.
  20. Yes not working with or without the engine running. When I press the button the microswitch clicks but cannot hear any relay sound around the dashboard. I would really like to find where the relay for the heated window is located so I can eliminate it.
  21. Hi all. Looking at changing the oil in the next 1500 mile. Not sure which way to go Semi synthetic or Fully synthetic. Car is 2002 Octavia 1.9 SDI unsure of what's in at present having not long had the car got service history but it does not say what grade was used. Looking through previous post was thinking of using fully synthetic 5w40. Car has very low miles 31000.
  22. Hi all. My Rear Demister is not working on car mk1 Octavia. In the early stages of trying to find the issue have started with the fuse which is fine moving onto the relay next. Can anyone tell me the location of the relay for the heated rear screen your help would be greatly appreciated cheers Colin.
