  1. That's interesting glad it's not just me, I was also using an android Samsung. I gave up on it, pity really sadly the car is not getting an awful lot of use thanks to the loony London mayor. Way to good to scrap hoped it might be useful to someone way outside London as it's a 4x4 and winter not to far away sadly. But hey ho
  2. No special tools needed, couple of good videos on YouTube worth looking at. I had to replace the barrel but used the original switch. Good luck with it
  3. All done and working problem was indeed the electric motor that opens the tailgate latch. Got a Chinese jobby of ebay £11.36 delivered so not so bad. Cheers Gareth
  4. Yes indeed does not unlock, I finally found my multimeter this morning and can confirm power is getting to the unit. So I guess it's gotta be the unit itself 🙄 hey ho. Sadly my local skoda breaker doesn't have one. So to get me out of trouble a new one off ebay (Chinese I'm sure) has been ordered only just over £11 delivered so even if I'm wrong not the end of the world. Sadly going to have to move the car on as I live in the area where the new London ULEZ Zone will probably be coming to. 🤪
  5. Sorry guys sadly another issue with the Octavia. The tailgate does not open with central locking, all other doors working fine it's just the tailgate. I've removed the little motor on the tailgate latch not sure exactly how to test it but tried connecting power to it from a spare battery and no response at all? Shouldn't i be able to hear some sort of noise or maybe see the plunger move? Am not to sure if connecting power would make anything happen? But it would seem reasonable? Thanks Gareth.
  6. Bought a second hand genuine unit but used the top and key of mine, issue was broken bits (steering lock) in metal body, so all back together thanks everybody for all the great input. Sadly will likely have to sell car in the spring due to the lunatic London mayor Khan and his ridiculous ULEZ BS Hey ho.
  7. Not a great day was out for a little spin today mainly just to wake the battery up stopped for a brew got back in car ignition switch seems to have seized/jammed and can't start car ;-( RAC came out couldn't sort it getting it recovered in the morning. Anybody any thoughts/tips? Thanks Gareth. By the way it's a 2006 Octavia 4x4 estate.
  8. OK just to let you guys know thanks for all the info brakes now sorted had to press gang a mate in to help but all done and all seems good. Think it's likely going up for sale soon as I live in the area where that idiot London mayor is planning to expand his ULEZ area to cover and euro 4 diesel not got a chance of compliance but hey ho I'll save that for another day. 🙄🙄🤔
  9. Hi prefer not to spend anymore than really necessary but as it's brakes kind of keen to try and get it right first time. I'm reasonably competent with spanners was hoping to rebuild the calliper especially after a few YouTube videos doesn't seem that complicated have done a few on motorcycles. Unfortunately the rubber dust boot doesn't look great so I'm thinking that should be replaced.
  10. I've discovered i have at least one seized rear calliper piston ;-/ probably because the car gets very little use i suppose. Heard a nasty rattling last time i was out and discovered the brake dust cover had broken away from it's mounts. While I was in there i discovered the seized piston. Just been to my local trusted car spares shop and they don't do them, does this mean genuine Skoda or is there a decent alternative anyone can recommend? Thanks.
  11. Hi MicMac thanks i did find it eventually 🤣 i shall investigate the actuator. And update as soon as. Thanks Gareth
  12. Hello been a while since I've been on here mainly due to using the car very little, various reasons such as London traffic and the London ULEZ etc but hey ho. Owned the car almost 4 years and done less than 10.000 miles, and that includes 2 trips to Scotland and back. Have had a couple of problems with the car ever since I've had it, one being the ESP sensor which thanks to you guys I eventually sorted. But not so much luck with intermittent loss of power which appears to be related to fault code PO234 which as far as i have read is sticking turbo internals making it over boost? for the last 6/7000 or so miles I have been running on Shell V power which seems to have helped a little because I now often only get FAULT PENDING? But it can still loose power intermittently and sometimes at very in opportune times. Have also tried several so called wonder potions supposedly able to clean the Turbo but as yet no success. Any tips/help much appreciated as it's getting on my its now and want it fixed. I've read about the Mr muscle option but compared to some cars I've seen this done on mine seems a real challenge to do. To be clear mines a 2006 Octavia 4x4 Estate 1.9Tdi. On the rare times I drive it I mostly enjoy it but this issue with Turbo really needs sorting. I'm based in Ilford Essex but would be happy to travel to get it sorted. Thanks Gareth
  13. Hi can anyone tell me can I delete dead central locking remotes from 2006 Skoda octavia without any special equipment? Thanks Gareth
  14. As above can this be done without special equipment? Thanks
  15. Not to dear no I've got fingers crossed
  16. Hi yea been inside it and cleaned contact's plus new battery car is a 2006 bought second hand about 3 years ago it's given me a few headaches mainly the ESP this is just another one to sort out. Hopefully will be able to reprogram a replacement module I've just ordered seems a fairly straight forward probability, will update when module has arrived.
  17. Right OK well I guess that confirms at least the central locking part is shot :-(
  18. Hi Skoda people I have an issue with central locking remote on my Skoda Octavia I cannot open car with remote but I can open it with key and can start car without any apparent issues. Problem started last week, remote wouldn't open tailgate and now it will do nothing am assuming remote is in 2 parts ie:- key blade with chip and remote buttons for central locking? Could I buy a second hand remote and use the central locking part attached to the old part with blade? I have changed the battery but it appears to make no difference. Am I right in thinking that there should be an led light on the remote which would show it has power? Thanks Gareth
  19. Just looks like a fairly normal key, had read something elsewhere about not putting it in the ignition but no idea if that's right or wrong I have checked it in the drivers door and it works it's now in it's hiding place and I'll be quite happy if it never comes out of hiding.
  20. Already done at Timpsons £10 and suitably secreted about the car. 👍
  21. And fixed £25 delivered
  22. Not driving it anywhere come to that seldom drive it anywhere less than 2000 miles between last 2 MOTs, breakers yard that cater quite a bit for skoda about 15 minutes from me I bought an ESP sensor of them a while back fitted and working fine unfortunately closed today but no matter will have plenty of time tomorrow. Fitting light unit easier than fitting drivers window I'm 100% certain. Price for light unit £30 or less on Ebay worst case.
  23. Well as luck I suppose if there is any in this situation the key was in the boot near the tailgate so we went this route,we concluded fitting a tail light was easier than fitting a window
