I am pretty sure that an Adria Altea 542 six berth comes in at around 1300kg or so and is certainly roomy enough - even more so with an awning added so there's no need to give up on the caravan idea for a motorhome just yet. There are probably a few others as well.

The plate is at the base of the door pillar on the passenger side (well it is on my Scout).

The max recommended weight you should tow (85% of kerb weight) is about 1300kg. So you should be looking for a caravan with MTPLM of around that figure. Legally you can tow a higher weight.

I looked into this as well as I have a detachable towball as well but every bit of advice I was given was to loop the cable around the neck which I didn't think was very good advice. Eventually I bought some D shackles and fitted one to the bracket - there's a suitable hole drilled in it -and I use that to connect the breakaway cable by looping through it. I know a lot of the guys on here are very into detailing but I am a lazy sod and by no means a fanatic when it come to cleaning my car. I certainly don't polish and then wax it - too much hard work in that. I use BiltHamber AutoBalm and I can thoroughly recommend it - it's not a paint restorer though so if your paintwork is in a poor condition then that would have to be addressed first. I've just had the Scout in for a service and MOT and had the garage look at the wheels which were delaminating around the tyre valve. All four wheels being replaced under warranty (which expires on July 2nd) next week. No quibble from the garage at all. Thanks again to this forum as it has given me good knowledge and helped me avoid problems.

And mine is almost exactly the same - same Scout, inc. colour, and same towbar except I have twin electrics for my caravan. Similar price and my parking sensors beep as well. I have just got back from a jaunt down to Derbyshire and the Scout is a superb tow vehicle.

All diesel Scouts have a 140 engine - latest models have the CR engine while earlier ones had the PD engine. If there ever was a 105hp engine it's news to me. My 2.0PD engine gets about 39 mpg overall (I don't get many motorway miles) and a fair bit more than that whenever I do go on a long run.

Well I thought I had posted earlier but it seems to have disappeared into the ether. Anyway I saw another Scout near Consett today - that's two this year including the one in Spain.

Since I last posted on this thread I have seen one other Scout up here in the North East and I was walking around Granada in Spain in January when I saw another.

Well I've got the fuelsure cap and as I indicated in the linked thread I have had no problems in 18 months filling up. The problems mentioned in the linked thread were with the other product.

It's not long since a similar thread to this was running so try a search for some further advice. I tow a Sterling Europa 495 (max about 1450kg - but never loaded to that) with my Octavia Scout with the 2.0 PD 140 bhp engine but NOT the dsg box. It is a dream to tow (the 'van has ALKO stability control as well). I haven't had any problems at all.

Certainly looks great! If you're ever driving along Scotswood Road or around the Western Bypass/ MetroCentre and you get flashed by a black Octavia Scout it's me! I think I've only ever seen two other Scouts around there

Forgot to mention the van is fitted with Al-KO stability control. I didn't get the ESP uprated on the car, even though it was a cheaper option, as I will probably have the van a lot longer than the car

Hi, I tow a Sterling Europa 495 (it's an 18 ft van) with my 2008 2.0 Diesel Scout. The van has a max loaded weight of 1460 kg I think. When I had the Scout weighed at a public weighbridge it was 1540kg say 1570 with a full tank of fuel. I have had no problems towing the van, the whole combo belts along, takes gradients in its stride and if the 4*4 has been needed I haven't noticed. I get about 27mpg towing if I am careful. Big thumbs up from me.

The Octavia with the 2.0 PD engine is a great tow car. Lots of power and torque makes for easy towing up to and beyond the the recommended 85% ratio. As you intend to tow a caravan of only 800kg then I think your main problem will be remembering that you are towing anything at all! I tow a van of 1360kg with my Scout (same engine but no DSG) and have no problems at all.

As I have previously posted I once put about 1 litre of petrol into my PD Octavia. Topped it up with diesel but still went and had the tank emptied, filter and lines cleaned ASAP having read some horror stories about this. The floor covers the anchor points but I hardly ever (well, never actually) use it so you would have to cut (I think )slots in the base if that is important to you.
