  1. Thank you for that. I did mention to the auto electrics company that had the car for a week whether it could be a relay and they said no. This is, as you know, an intermittent fault and in a former life we did have instances where relays would chatter or turn on and off at various times. Can I test this relay - and if so how? - or do I just buy a replacement? Many thank for your interest in this annoying problem.
  2. Many thanks Breezy_Pete That would be great as I don't have access to any wiring diagrams. My VIN is TMBBE73TXF9006711 I'm very grateful for your help Cheers
  3. Many thanks for the link to the video. I hadn't thought of using an infrared camera and I'll now check the boot lights.
  4. I have a 2014 Skoda Superb 2 hatchback with a 2 litre Tdi engine 140. For some months now the car has been suffering from a large parasitic draw of up to 7 amps!!! If I pull fuses it would indicate that the circuit through which the loss is going is protected by Fuse 7 in the under bonnet fusebox. (Version with 30 fuses). My owners' manual shows that Fuse 7 is not assigned. However, I've seen elsewhere that this circuit covers the power supply for terminal 15 (ignition on). Has anyone out there got any ideas here? I'm having to charge the car every couple of days. I sent the car in to an auto electrician who reported that the leak is intermittent and the vehicle is waking up from sleep at irregular intervals and draining the battery. If I can't find a fix I'm thinking of resorting to a battery isolator. Any help would be gratefully received.
  5. The guy who had his Columbus fixed by the Surrey company is away on holiday at the moment. I think he's back at the weekend so I will ask him then. In the meantime I've just noticed an Ad from this company https://www.satnavsystems.com/product/vw-rns-510-skoda-columbus-navigation-repair-service/ (This could be the same company but either way it's worth a try.} Best wishes
  6. After various problems with my Columbus system and being quoted extortionate prices for replacement, I found someone who repairs these for £120 (as at August '24} The company is Navitex in Liverpool - 07500 070050 - [email protected]. The turnaround was three days!. I believe I'm right in saying that they repair most VAG units. There is also a company in Surrey, just south of London, who will do most repairs while you wait
  7. Thanks once again for your very helpful input. The Goodyear 235 45 17's on Eos 17's is an interesting option but the increased tyre width over the generous current 225's may not be my preferred option. Also the Eos 17 inch alloys in good nick appear somewhat rare on an initial search. Thanks to you Jayw13702 for your input re the broken springs on the rear. The car is going in for a service shortly so I'll ask them to check this out. The car is regularly serviced by a trusted local independent garage and I would think they would have noticed if this were the case.
  8. Thanks so much for the input here. I think my best option is to go down the 16" route. This, by the way, was deemed not a workable option by my local main dealer!! I'll have a look and se what's available in wheels and then make a selection for tyres.
  9. My tyre size is 225 40 18. No, it doesn't have DCC
  10. The ride in my Skoda 2 elegance hatch back is really hard and even small road imperfections get transmitted to the cabin. Any ideas anybody?
  11. Hi Phil-E, Thanks for coning back on this one and that would be good advice. Unfortunately however, I bought the battery online from a well known supplier and had it fitted locally. The company concerned have videos on their site showing how to correctly fit a replacement battery. However, these videos make no mention of registering the new battery following installation. I might well go back to them and see whether they will offer a credit.
  12. Thank you superbdreams. That's what I thought might be the case. I have a sophisticated "Intelligent Charger" with an AGM setting and a repair mode. If I get back the capacity lost to undercharging, how do I get the system to recognise this as a new battery?
  13. A year ago I had a replacement AGM battery fitted to my 14 plate Superb 11 as the original was on its way out. The garage fitting it told me that all the vehicle settings were stored on the hard drive of the ECU and, following start-up, these would be reloaded. However, since then I've been told that this should have been electronically initialised so that the ecu knows that this is a new battery and the system should charge it as such. Evidently if this is not done the vehicle will assume it's still the original - failing battery - and the charging both when driving from the alternator and also when recharging from a battery charger, will be regulated accordingly, Interesting this as the new battery will not hold a charge even when fully charged with a so called intelligent charger. Is this so and if this is the case, is the battery damaged or can it be saved? I'd be really grateful for some input here.
