2010 automatic petrol 1.4l has failed MOT due to leaking transmission. Garage thinks the twin clutch needs replacing. Skoda dealer said it might need new transmission. Best case £1k to worst case £6k. Merry Christmas!
OK thanks. Down in Hampshire, so hopefully the recommendation of my local garage will be OK.

Thanks all this. Are you saying changing the oil to mineral oil might fix the issue?

Sorry 1.4 TSI 7 speed automatic. Sealed unit that never needs to be serviced, I was once told.

Thanks. I have the car back now. I forgot to add, sometimes the car won't engage coming out the garage in the morning from cold. Like the clutch is slipping. But yes, I will ask the specialist on Friday to check the gaskets.

Those were just quotes over the phone. Skoda want to charge £80 just to do the quote, but no slots until next year. My local garage have recommended a gearbox and clutch specialist, so that is booked in for Friday with quote cost £95 but even once diagnosed, they can't do the work until next year. So my post is to ask you good people what I could expect. If just replacing the twin clutch, is my local garage way off with £1,000? The car is low mileage 53,000 and in great condition. Probably worth around £4,000 before this curve ball. If Skoda is right and it is a electrical and or whole transmission replacement at £6,000...... then just sell for scrap? Any help would put our minds to rest. It has not been a good day. Thanks for reading.
