  1. All facelifts follow the Skoda Vision C prototype direction : http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/experience/concepts/visionc

So more work is done to reach the concept in terms of design.

I would hope that would be the direction. Somehow I very much doubt the twin headlamp design in new Octavia. It would not be in line with the VisionC concept and also it would be completely different than in any other Skoda today. And worst of all, it looks fugly.

Hopefully more to the direction of the new Superb.

  2. I dont drive like that, but still agree.

Why should the handbrake be electrical?

Its a emergency brake IMO and pure mechanic is the only thing to trust.

The maintenance cost has also been high on Audi and Passat with failing electronic.

I've had two cars with electronic handbrake and I've never experienced any issues with either one. ZERO issues. More problems with manual handbrake with sticking pads, sticking handbrake wire or something similar.

Both have their pros and cons. But I personally ain't towards or against either one. Both do their job and both work.

And what comes to the handbraking in general. I haven't tried that with my current car but the previous one with electronic handbrake worked exactly like manual one. On closed area I could throw the car whatever way I wanted. Of course it ain't that fast as manual one as there's always a little delay because you need to hold the handbrake button for awhile for the car to figure out you're serious :)

  3. Official pictures coming next week. Production starts on march 2017. Dealers got the info yesterday.

I really hope that the Merc E -style lamps like in the "artististic views" are shown, are not reality. They'll destroy the looks of the car with that and it's a total turnoff towards the car. It just looks horrible.

So it's coming. Sales restrictions also applied since yesterday, only limited production quantity left for RS for example.

  4. Should I change my nick to I love Toyota then? I've had the new shape Avensis for almost year and a half and I have to say that I'm VERY VERY pleased with the car. Totally different car than the previous model.

    Sorry the off-topic.

On the topic. Yes the panoramic sunroof looks great. Only gripe what I've heard from the users is that it's creaking pretty bad during winter when snow and ice packs in the gaps.

  5. Pretty sure for the Touran they modded it so the heater exhaust gas went out to the rear of the vehicle - the heater was left where it was designed to be.

Actually I think you're correct. Touran and Passat had a factory Webasto pre-installed so that it works when the car is running. If you put some extra dough when ordering the car you'll get a pre-heater capability for it.

Anyway, most of the cars nowadays don't redirect the exhaust gases to the rear of the car. Cheaper that way and as the Webasto is not very long lasting, it's easier to swap when there's no extra exhaust pipe :)

  6. Later models (or could be retroed) exited the exhaust gas to the rear.

Nope. They still exit from the same place :) Usually from the passenger side front wheel arch. The exhaust for Webasto (Or Ebersbächer) is still in the same place as it's usually the only place that has enough room to install the burner.

Invaluable option here in Finland. We now have -24 degrees celsius and it's getting colder. Tomorrows forecast predicts over -30 degrees celsius.

  7. Do you know what the coding error was Stoofa?

That I would also like to know because basically there's nothing you can code wrong that causes this kind of behaviour. All the cluster coding is done to adaptation values which affect the longlife service interval and mileage display.

I'm pretty sure that the problem was that they chose the wrong ABS/ESP module when trying to do the basic settings. I think that's a very common error when using VAS for the first time to this job.

  8. The buzzer which gives and audible warning on the indicators and hazards stopped working at the same time as the seat belt and "lights on" warning buzzer so I'm guessing its the same unit.

It briefly comes back now and again so I'm think its not a fuse just a loose wire or faulty relay. I know the older models had a similar fault and that the relay was behind the hazard switch and could easily be replaced but I'm being told that I need a new instrument cluster for £600+ to fix mine.

Anyone know where the relay is on the Octavia II ?

There's no relay I'm afraid. All the sounds are artificial. The dashpod electronics is responsible for those sounds and if they're not audible anymore then a dashpod replacement is required.

There has been a lot of these problems with the new Golf mk5 Variant.

  9. hi does anyone know if the new 122 bhp 1.4tsi is remappable and if a reliable company is offering this yet. I couldn't find anything when I looked recently

    Thanks

There is. Some of the tuners here in Finland already offer the remap for this one turbo engine. The output is 160bhp and 275 Nm of torque after remap.

The older models require a chip tuning and newer ones with Bosch Med17.x are OBD tunable.

I know this doesn't help you to locate a remapping company in your area.

  10. Cheers guys, I'll pop out to the car later and try the hardware reset method (I just reset everything in software yesterday) - the columbus was all coded correctly when Stu installed it. :)

Never had an issue it since and that was 6+ months ago.

    Lee

It should take you back to the main menu on Maxidot if you turn the RNS unit off.

If it doesn't the only option is to take out the negative battery lead for a while. Like someone already suggested here.

  11. Back from my weekend away :)

The dealer tells me that ABS should still be working and that although it is the ABS warning light on that is not neccessarily idicative of ABS not functioning.

Remember that with the warning lights available there are only a finite number of "errors" that can be displayed.

An illuminated ABS light surely doesn't neccessarily mean that ABS is not functioning?

The dealer is going to have a read through this thread on Monday so hopefully he'll get back to me.

After just a weekend with Maxidot & Columbus (travelling around France & Belgium) I so cannot face going back to having the standard display :)

If I was 100% sure that ABS was working then I guess there is always the "removal of the bulb" option - but lets be honest, that's no ideal.

Usually when the ABS light is on, it also disables the ABS function. It's a security measure built in. For ESP this is 100% true, if the ESP light is on, ESP is disabled.

Like Stu wrote, your problem is that the dealer didn't do the basic settings required for the ABS/ESP module after installing the maxidot dash.

They are dead easy to do and your dealer should be able to help. If not, take the car to another dealer who knows what to do.

  12. just had a thought...

I have read the mfd2 install guide and I cant find a reference to the plug & play lead, that was needed for the old mfd1 in a mk1 vrs.

Is this not required? I am installing into a 57 plate with the standard fit audio unit.

So do i need an extra lead or is it already there?

    thanks.

You already have everything. MFD2 uses the same Quadlock connector as your current radio. Just make sure you'll get a gps antenna with correct connector with your mfd2 unit.

  13. Hi,

For several weeks now I'm trying to install an amplified sub woofer from pioneer. And everything just works out fine, but I just can not find a place to get the power cable troug the firewall.

It should be behind the battery box. But I can not find it (the car is black which doesn't make the job easier). Does someone have detailed information preferable with some clear pictures as of where I can feed my power cable trough the firewall?

    Thanks!

Hmm... There should be at least two places to get the cable through the firewall. One is behind the glovebox and the other should be just behind the clutch pedal.

These are from the LHD car, but I'd presume the same holes are in the RHD car also?

  14. www.skodateile.cz

Looking at this steering wheel, i notice its got two buttons and a roller on each side rather than 4 buttons, does that mean its the wheel from the new octavia.

    So which airbag would i need;

    4 Spoke Airbag

    3 Spoke vRS Airbag

or the new Octavia 4 Spoke Airbag?

Shark already answered the airbag question. But there's more than the airbag. The new MFS wheel probably won't work in an pre-facelift Octy.

The new MFSW has also controls for changing maxidot views, computer views etc. which previously were done by right stalk buttons.

In facelift Octavia when you buy the MFSW as an extra, the right stalk will be different, it doesn't have any buttons. All the controls are on the steering wheel.

Also the new Maxidot is different, so I have my doubts that the new style steering wheel wouldn't be compatible with the old style car straight on.

  15. At 122bhp, it's the same as a normally aspirated 1.8 petrol, so perfectly normal for a family hatch, surely?

With only one difference. The 1.4TSI drives figure eights around the NA 1.8 petrol car.

And as already written here that the engine will give the maximum torque between 1500 - 4000 rpm's. 200Nm's of torque between those rpm's is pretty good I think. :)

  16. any one else interested in trying the dsg flappy paddle upgrade?

It's already been done. Malfean and pas-pas here changed the Golf MK5 steering wheel with DSG paddles to his 2.0TDI DSG Octavia. Works just fine so I don't see why it wouldn't work in RS DSG too.

As someone pointed out that the functioning part depends on the steering wheel controller. If your steering wheel controller supports MFSW it WILL support DSG paddles.

    Look here :

    http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/paddles-dsg/81524/

A little use of search function wouldn't be too bad as there's already atleast 10 different threads about this same subject.
