  1. Finally past the break-in period on my new 245 DSG and this rather helpfully coincided with a visit to the Highlands, so I have been giving the car a bit of exercise. I've noticed the car seems to "attenuate" the power in 1st and 2nd gears? It's presumably deliberate as it doesn't spin the wheels at all, but there's a noticeable surge in power when it gets to 3rd gear. I've not been using launch control or deactivating the traction control . . . is this why? Cheers Rob
  2. What about the mounting circle (forget the technical name!) in the centre of the wheel, and the offset? Is that pretty standard? I would prefer not to get a spacesaver but just "another" wheel, but don't want to pay top dollar for a Gemini. Cheers
  3. Cheers, I'll try that although it did show as activated at one point (although when I tapped skoda connect it said no data connection) and I have had an email saying it's activated too . . . nice, the subscription has started but without the service! Rob
  4. On topic query, but does anyone know if the space savers (18") are global fitting for Octavias, irrespective of model (and therefore varying caliper sizes)?
  5. Mmm I have got the white globe icon sometimes (other times I get WLAN showing there). Not sure exactly what is going on. To be honest, I'd live with Google Maps navigation via CarPlay if the voice was less irritating (it sounds like it came out of the Windows voice emulator from the 90s!) and the nav updates came through on the maxidot.
  6. OK, so played around with the head unit extensively last night, tried WLAN connection with my iPhone on EE and it just kept on saying "no data connection" when I tried to activate it. I eventually did manage to get it to sort of activate, but nothing was available and Skoda Connect was unable to connect due to no data connection. It seemed to get even more fussy if I connected my 'phone with a cable (which I do as it allows for Car Play). Any ideas anyone? I have read a bit about conflicts existing between EE/Iphones and Skoda Connect, but most posts are well over a year old if not older and one would hope (!) any issues had been resolved by now. Cheers Rob
  7. Incidentally, the whole global concepts of HIDs are great, LEDs are great etc. isn't always the case; I've owned cars with great HIDs (F30 BMW Bi-xenons - stunning), awful HIDs (mk1 octavia, SG9 Subaru Forester), great halogens (P11 Primera) and awful ones (my wife's Ibiza). I'd definitely say there's overlap; the best halogens can be better than the worst LEDs/HIDs. FWIW though the LEDs in my Octy mk3 FL are very good indeed though, not quite as good as the bi-xenons in the beemer but close.
  8. Thanks. Just signed up and it's implying I can get connected for free . . . I assume this is the 12 months included that I saw on the spec sheet somewhere. Hopefully it'll all make sense once activated!
  9. Got my 2020 vRS last Friday with Amundsun head unit. Fantastic system and the mirroring works really well so I can use Google Maps this way, but I'd prefer to somehow get traffic onto the OEM satnav as the screen is better, the voice less annoying and you get nav instructions on the maxidot. Is there any way to use my mobile (iPhone 7 on EE) to provide the data connection to get "proper" (as opposed to TMC) traffic info to the OEM satnav? If it's relevant, I'm getting a little red globe on the screen too . . . Cheers Rob Sorry when I say mirroring, I mean Apple Car Play!
  10. Cheers all, I'll get some ordered then. Beyond me why they can't just list this most basic of information in the handbook! Progress for you . . .
  11. Morning all, I have tried forum searching on this topic but was struggling to reach a conclusion! I've just taken delivery of my 245 vRS DSG (fantastic by the way); it's going to be covering nearly 1000 miles this weekend so I want to get some oil for top-ups (hopefully not needed, but you never know). The owner's manual really isn't very helpful on this at all - it says to speak to your local dealer (who won't answer the phone!). Now I can't be certain, but I think it's on variable servicing - it's showing next service in nearly 20k miles or 2 years or something, so that suggests that to me. I've seen reference to VW 508 00 spec 0w20 oil - is this correct? If so, is the below going to be OK? Frustratingly out of stock at the local Halfords and I presume the dealers will ask even more for it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Castrol-15A54C-Edge-Professional-0w-20/dp/B071D8TLV4/ref=sr_1_1?keywords="VW+508"&qid=1580121479&s=automotive&sr=1-1 Cheers Rob
  12. Got my new Octy vRS 245 arriving on Friday; just wondering where the best place to get a spare wheel (kit?) is? I'm assuming that the car doesn't come with a jack and while there are spare wheels advertised about, I'm conscious of getting one that'll clear the calipers. I assume the dealers will sell one off the shelf but I suspect they're not the cheapest? Cheers Rob
  13. Think I've got to the bottom of the confusion; all / most reviews were bouncing around in 2017 when apparently the 245 was a special edition or something? As such, the trim was slightly different and had some extras, whereas the later 245 is a "standard" model. Either way, I'll be happy with 18s as they're probably lighter, tyres are probably cheaper and they'll probably get on with potholes better Rob
  14. Cheers all. Yeah I had read somewhere (several somewheres in fact) that the bigger brakes on the 245 required 19" wheels or something, hence the confusion. I'll be expecting it with 18s and part-alc seats then. 🙂 Rob
  15. Morning all, I've got a 69 plate Octavia vRS 245 on the way (dealer stock somewhere in the UK), but one thing I can't seem to get to the bottom of is what the standard spec wheels and seats are. The car is totally standard (other than "Black Pack"), but some sites say all 245s get 19" wheels, but yet there appears to be Octavia 245s for sale with 18" wheels? Other places imply that the Alcantara seats are standard on the 245, but then again photos of cars for sale suggest the seats are fabric? All a bit confused and I can't even use the Skoda configuration tool as the car isn't been factory made anymore so it won't let you "build" one. Cheers all Rob P.S. be good to get back into a Skoda again 🙂
