  1. Okay thanks, I now know a bit more about what a glow plug is and does than before this issue arose. Anyway, the warranty work is approved and it's booked in for next week. Has the All-in plan started paying for itself, I wonder?
  2. Many thanks for your interesting response and I suspect you're correct. I'm not even sure if the glow plug has actually failed, as opposed to the monitoring system (undoubtedly showing my ignorance here) especially as there is no drop off in performance. However, I have a problem, don't I, where the dealer is advising me not to use the car extensively, let alone tow a caravan as I plan to do next week? I can imagine the warranty company taking a certain view if, however unlikely, further damage was to occur.
  3. Less than a week after the warranty expired and with less than 11,000 miles on the clock, my 2019 Superb displayed the Emissions Control System warning light. It didn't go into limp mode and 200 miles later (because I was away) still hasn't. I had already committed to take out Skoda's All-in extended warranty plan but, bizarrely, for bureaucratic reasons it's not possible to trigger it until one week has elapsed from expiry date. I have now enacted the plan and the car went to the dealer yesterday where a faulty glowplug module was diagnosed. However, the dealer can't just order up the part and book it in as usual, it has to get the agreement of the warranty company (Skoda Financial Services) as to whether they will cover the claim. It remains to be seen if I have to cancel my caravanning holiday booked for next week and whether the warranty company deems the fault to have fallen down the crack between warranty expiry and enacting the All-in plan. To be continued...
  4. I don't understand this. You say your kerb weight is 2325 (?) but go on to say 'the car weighs around 1685'.
  5. Caravan and motoring organisations recommend a van MTPLM/car operating weight towing ratio of 85%, or an absolute max for experienced towers of 100%. If my maths is correct, you are towing at around 106%. That's... interesting. And yes, I know Skoda's max weight limit is higher than that.
  6. Exactly. Anyone planning on tugging two tonnes of caravan with a Superb has either bought the wrong car or the wrong caravan. It would be madness.
  7. The problem arises when you exceed the caravan's Maximum Technically Permitted Laden Mass (MTPLM) as indicated on the van's info plate.
  8. Ah well, I'm about to start my... eek!! 40th+ year towing, or 54th if you count caravanning with my parents! In that time I've towed with a 1600 Cortina, 1600 Cavalier, two 2.0 Mondeos and a Honda CRV. Hope the Superb proves to be as good as the Honda. Never previously towed with an automatic.
  9. Thanks for the welcome, by the way. Back in the day, whoever thought I would ever buy a... Skoda?
  10. £560. The dealer paying for the prep was a result of haggling!
  11. I didn't pay anything like that amount, and the dealer agreed to pay for the prep. And it's a detachable Witter towbar.
  12. My dealer did indeed have a local independent fit the tow bar, but one of high repute that I've used myself twice before. Have yet to tow with the Superb but encouraged by responses on here.
  13. That's interesting. My dealer has just installed the Kenwood DRV-A501W on my new Superb, which is very easy to unplug from its windscreen mount.
