Is a Superb 272 calling me?
Yep, you snooze you lose - and I did. just got to hope some of the newer ones now come down a bit in price.

Is a Superb 272 calling me?
hmmm - the one I was looking at sold this morning. The only ones I like currently are all well outside of budget at the moment.

Is a Superb 272 calling me?
Well, I am budgeting for about 15k miles a year, so sticking to the variable 20k/2 year plan might work out best for me? I will almost need 2 services a year if doing the miles I think I will be doing if I change to the yearly servicing.

Is a Superb 272 calling me?
can someone tell me what the service schedule for the 272 is please? i asked the guy from the dealership i have found the car if it will be serviced before it is sold as it is almost exactly a year old now, with almost 10k miles on the clock. He said the car doesn't need to have its first service until 20k/2 years - which seems a long time? I thought there was an interim service every 10k/1 year and a major service every 20k/2 years?

i don't think any of the 272's i have seen have got the camera option - which you would think would be quite popular given the size!

Is a Superb 272 calling me?
i have seen a couple of videos of the car - so fairly happy that it is the car in question. tbh - i won't be hooning around in it, but tis nice to have the power there if its needed (over taking on b roads, getting up to speed quickly etc). Does it feel as big as it looks/is when you drive? How is parking? With no rear camera (but it does have sensors) i am thinking it could take a while to get used to. Also - i have never really paid attention to MPG as such. I normally judge my cars on how many miles I get out of £20. my old civic type r was about 80-100, current car (lancer estate) is about 100-110, wifes car gives about 130-140 etc. This to me is more "real world"

Brilliant - thanks for the explanation. At least being chain driven that's something I don't have to worry about in a few years.

Is a Superb 272 calling me?
what is the difference between the 272 and 280, in terms of year they were sold? or are they one and the same thing? also, is the 272 (the one i am looking at above) chain or belt driven? if belt, when should this be changed?

Is a Superb 272 calling me?
one step ahead there - i have already asked that question and they confirmed it wasn't over £40k and the tax is £150 a year (not sure how i can prove that or if i just have to take their word for it)

Trouble is - a lot of the Superbs I am finding are from Marshall - so a bit of a rock and a hard place there if they aren’t that great. can I ask a question to any other 272 owners - what sort of mpg are you getting from it? I know it’s quick-ish, and a big old car, but I won’t be thrashing it everywhere. Wondered if you ever see 35+ on a motorway run etc?

They certainly seem to get good enough reviews. The boot looks huge on them too (plenty of room for a set of golf clubs in a bag!!) Still a little shocked at the standing quarter mile time from CarWow youtube video - 13.4 seconds places it quicker than a lot of fast hot hatches (i know its not a hot hatch, but just comparing them). How is the Canton sound system? Some people say the Canton in the Octavia VRS isn't anything special - is it the exact same kit in the Superb? And agree on the adverts - it can't be that hard to get the details correct. Good photos are a must, and when you see an advert on Aututrader which says it has 36 photos you begin to think it will be a well composed advert. Only then to click on it and find 4 stock images of the car from boring angles and the rest of the "photos" are of the dealership or some facts and figures about the dealership on posters!

Is a Superb 272 calling me?
yes, the advert doesn't seem that well written. I found the car originally on Autotrader, which has about 5 photos, but did have a video which was good. This is where i saw the Canton badge on the front door. Then i looked on the Skoda website at the used cars, found it there, and under the specs the only thing it listed in the optional segment was the paint. Which i thought was strange, as i had looked at a slightly more expensive version and under optional extras it listed canton, electric boot shut, digital display etc etc - all of which the car i am looking at has. So either they are options and the advert is badly written, or they are not options as the second car has over egged itself (although i know the digital display is an option as not all of them have it). I am also fairly certain this one has Canton, not only because of the badge, but when looking in the boot you can see the side pockets are filled in (where i assume the amp and sub might be?), where as on some of the others these compartments are free and open to store things in. So is this likely to have the 9.2" screen or an 8" one? From what i can see in the spec and in the video it has digital display, electric shut boot, heated front seats, electric memory front seats, Canton upgrade. No idea if it has a spare wheel. In a video the dealership sent me yesterday he said it had heating controls in the rear (on the back of the drivers arm rest) - are they standard?

So, I make no secret of it, I was originally looking for a well spec’d Octavia VRS - but recently they all seem a bit boring with hardly any options on (not finding many with a mix of heated front seats, digital display, canton sound system, electric front seats, sunroof etc etc). This in turn has lead me down a Superb 272 shaped path!! There aren’t that many for sale currently, but there is one which falls into my price range. Can I get peoples opinions on the following - does it seem decent value, over priced, bit of a bargain? Honest opinions welcome. https://www.marshall.co.uk/skoda/used-cars/12056277-skoda-superb-2.0-tsi-272-sport-line-plus-4-x4-5dr-dsg/ love the digital display, the fact it’s got heated and electric front seats, canton upgrade. And the “blinky” rear indicators (small things). Comes in just about in budget, but just wary as I obviously can’t test drive it or see it in the flesh before agree to buying it. So need to make sure it is as mint as the guy says and no dents or dings etc. I showed my brother tonight and he scoffed at the car and instead pointed me to a 4 year old Alfa and some BMW 3 series (some of which were about to be out of warranty and some of which were £2-4k more than this superb!). what surprised me with the superb is how fast it is for a big car. Plenty of videos on YouTube of them hitting 60 in around 5.1-5.3 seconds and 17-18 seconds to 200kph. CarWow even had one doing the standing quarter mile in 13.4 seconds which is very reasonable! Anyway, be good to get some thoughts on the above. Only thing it doesn’t have I think I might miss is the rear wiper?

Custom car audio installation
So I have been looking at a few VRS’s lately and one of the option boxes I wanted to find ticked was the Canton sound system upgrade, but after reading a few reviews online It’s apparently not that good - which is a shame as the standard speakers and setup is awful according to other reviews I have read. so I wondered if it’s worth looking for a VRS without the canton upgrade and then paying for a custom audio install instead? Has anyone here done such a thing? I don’t want anything too crazy, just a decent sub built into where the canton sub would go and an amp under the drivers/passengers seat etc and upgrade the speakers all round (do the speakers come out easy, or is it the whole door card off type job to get at them?) from a quick search tonight it looks like prices would start around a grand or so for a custom install - too much/too silly?

New Octavia 2020 vRS?
hmmm, so the search begins on autotrader with an ex demo one with the Canton option. Shame there are no electric front seat options.

Looking for my next car - a VRS
Yeah it looks nice in the photos and he assures me the only “damage” is a couple of stone chips on the front bonnet (hard to see) and a small stone chip on one of the headlight casing. is there any way I can prove their holding finance has been paid off after I buy the car, or any checks I can do? the guy has said he can get his boss to write on a piece of header paper that the finance will be settled after I buy it etc - is that worth anything?

Looking for my next car - a VRS
So I have been in talks with another dealer over a newer VRS - although it is 5 hours from me!! here is the car in question - thoughts? https://www.simpsonsskoda.co.uk/used-vehicles/11504372-skoda-octavia-2.0-tsi-v-rs-dsg-s-s-5dr/ the price they have offered me is a bit cheaper then the advertised and works out just about in budget. 2018 18 plate, 245 and it has heated and electronic memory front seats with some form of black pack which I think looks nice (black capped electric folding wing mirrors). I ran a car check on it via vcheck (cost me £9.99 but worth it) and it all checks out except that there is outstanding finance on it in the form of a “stocking policy”, which the dealership claim is normal and will be written off if/when someone buys the car. I asked for the finance to be cleared first before I agree to buy it, but they say it can only be paid off once it is sold. I am concerned if I buy the car they might not necessarily pay the car finance off straight away for whatever reason and then I am at risk of having it repossessed at any point. below is a photo of the outstanding finance check. thoughts?

Is the Amundsen sat nav the standard sat nav within these cars? a couple of adverts seem to highlight them as if they are something special? I did see one a few months ago (that ticked the boxes but due to personal reasons I couldn’t take it) that had a special touch screen with just buttons down the left hand side (a larger screen) and canton upgrade.

One thing I will say about the blue 230 is that it seems very cheap compared to what’s currently on auto trader

When does the Gen3 EA888 start, which year?

Looking for my next car - a VRS
the budget isnt neceserilly £15-16k, this is just the one that came up from my local dealer. I have been looking up to around £21-22k for the perfect model, but for that i would want as close to mint as i can get outside and at least a couple of the options i desire inside. i have no issue going for a cheaper 230/245, provided it looks well looked after and drives nice and has a few toys on it. the newer ones just provide a bit more assurance with warranty etc

can i just check, and i may have asked this before in here - are these cars cam or chain driven?

Looking for my next car - a VRS
Just had a quick look round the car before it went off to the prep centre. the colour is lovely, but there are quite a few surface scratches all over, 3 of the alloys are destroyed (so would want all 4 done), there is a strange area of scratches on the bonnet (like someone has taken a Brillo pad to a small area - not deep, just lots of small scratches in one localised area). there is a small ding on the passengers front door. also; the inside is grim. They owned a dog before, so dog hair and mud everywhere and stains on the back seats. I said I would come back and look at it once it’s all prepped and looking as good as it is going to. the prep might get out the service scratches and the stains on the chairs etc, so will just wait and see.

Looking for my next car - a VRS
hi guys - long story short, no i didn't. i had to put buying one on hold for personal reasons. but, i am able to start looking again. They are getting a little bit harder to find now, but the harder i look, the more option i find and i have now found myself looking at the Challenge version as they come with the heated seats, electric seats, some have digital display as well and a few have the Canton sound system upgrade. However, they obviously cost a lot more and i am just trying to justify the cost at the moment. having said that, just today i received a phone call from my local skoda dealership who know i am looking for one as they have just today taken one in as part ex. now, its a slightly older version, and interesting to see what your thoughts are on spec/price. its a Otcober 2017 67 reg, but annoyingly its only the 230bhp model blue great condition all alloys will be refurbed as 3 out of the 4 have light curbing on them 24k miles heated seats (not not electric seats) it has electric folding door mirrors (in black contrast) spare wheel and inflation kit bad points: its not the 245bhp model no electric front seats no digital display no canton sound system upgrade now, it falls well within budget and seems pretty well priced compared to others on autotrader - it is up for £15,700, plus £139 for dealer options (what ever these are) and £1,139 for insurance products (i think this is GAP insurance, some kind of alloy wheel repair service and an upholstery repair service). Less some "discount/incentives" of £750 and the total price is just under £16,230. Based on my requirements (48 month PCP, £1,000 deposit and 15k miles a year) its coming out at £258 a month - at least £100 less than the better spec'd Challenge models. First of - is that a decent price (£16k). The monthly price is good, but i can't help feeling it isn't the car i wanted to go for. I expressed my concern that it was the 230bhp model and not the 245bhp and the guy at the dealer just said the different is hardly noticeable being completely honest (he would i guess). If it had had electric seats and was the 230bhp i would be more inclined. equally is if was the 245bhp version wish no electric seats i would be more inclined. just feels i might get the worst of both worlds here? thoughts?
