  1. Like those points - thanks. I think autohold is brilliant for a rapid 3-point turn. I'm not about to turn it on, turn it off - massive chance I'll forget where I left it. Generally, I think I'd rather have an old fashioned handbrake. Maybe my motto should be: "Proud to be boring "
  2. As croquemonsieur says...., " braking gently & not pressing too hard on the pedal when stopped, doesn't trigger Autohold." So you often need to check that the little green light has come on if you don't want to gently roll into the car in front - or behind. If only we could have a sort of lever that you could raise to apply the handbrake, and release when it wasn't needed. How simple would that be? You could do it almost without thinking (and without constantly checking)
  3. As far as I can make out, Skoda know the price of a variable service, for which I paid £220 a few days ago. But they don't know what it involves. Can't be much for just 1 hour work (less 40 for oil 10 for filter) However, the folk at centralaudivw show details on their website. Which is nice.
  4. On 19th Jan, CJW asked if a service plan is nothing more than a visual check. You are very optimistic, sir! The "free" visual health check that came with my service, included precise measurements of tyre tread depth, and the assurance that the spare "kit" is "OK" Maybe the inspector was troubled, because that "kit" is round and black and looks to me, remarkably like a spare wheel. Basically, we pay the money to keep the warrenty. And we needed the warrenty to fix the aircon which literally fell apart a few hundred miles from new.
  5. It's all a bit weird. I got mine new because it was cheaper than getting one a year old, which is what I had intended. (The plan being to then keep it forever. or almost forever) My son got a new Golf, new for the same reason. He got his via an online agent, who did suggest the "temporary" agreement. I don't think my salesman at the dealers was at all used to folk actually paying for cars rather than lease or whatever it is that people do. In fact he seemed almost amused. I could sense that everything was going a bit pear-shaped, he just wanted to shift it in any way possible. Commission? I shall make enquiries and get back to you......
  6. I knew it, should have spoken to you earlier! Cheers.....
  7. Thanks, Dale. Now I understand where I went wrong - as you say, a small amount on finance. Of course, and I was too chicken to put the whole lot on in case, for some reason, I couldn't back out. But with a small amount, it wouldn't matter anyway. Well done.
  8. I thought only I could do things like that! And you have a service schedule? Pure luxury. They are spoiling you. They more or less threw the car at me one day before first lockdown. I did have to take it back between lockdowns so they could make the air-con work (seemed like a good idea) But I have hardly any paperwork and a bonnet that needs a heck of a lot of persuasion to open. It's set to variable service schedule - did you get a choice? Anyway, most things seem to work, and I'm not paying 140 quid for a drop of oil and a filter until the clever machine tells me to. (And then, reluctantly) But I like your style!
  9. Thanks, Redboy. I'll tell good lady wife - she has been looking at me a bit oddly when this happens - now I can tell her it's not me, it's just a "feature" of this engine. Maybe we could organise an expedition to go and throw rocks at VW executives. No, they're not worth it. Keep smiling .........
  10. Don't know how I got here, but I'm glad I did! Karoq 1.5 SEL TSI estate 110kW. Reg Mar 2020. Only 2500 miles. Kangaroos (a bit) when pulling away when cold. Every time. Not when turning round carefully in a rather tight drive, just when pulling onto the road outside. Never mind, the whole car is designed to be "inclusive" so it can be driven by people who can't drive!
  11. I am the er, owner of a Karoq SEL which is feeding my paranoia something immoderate. Well, no, I'm not actually paranoid, but it does seem that cars in general, and Skodas in particular are out to get me. But you don't want to know about that! The object of my suspicion is a sort of grey colour, and it hasn't gone very far since I bought it just before lock-down. It replaced an ageing Octavia which finally got its marching orders when it not only dropped an injector (in the fast lane, of course), but also decided that was a good time to go into limp home mode. One looses confidence a bit at times like that. So, I'm of a sunny disposition (when not grumbling), the kit-car I built is outside reproaching me for not getting it back on the road, and I hope I can not only contribute (when not grumbling) but also learn a lot.......
  12. Lovely new Karoq bought to replace Octy II (which was not without it's problems) Struggling to come to terms with all the "boys' toys" which seem to be unavoidable (or downright unsafe) Actually, I'm not entirely sure what it can do - or might do, when I least expect it! Which is pretty irrelevant at the moment as it's not going anywhere due to the current restrictions ....... Forgive me if I seem a bit grumpy, but I seem to have survived a long time without anything to warm my botty, or, indeed anything to turn on the wipers just in case I didn't happen to notice it's actually raining. Never mind, I expect some people need them. Or think they do. Anyway, keep smiling - it gets people quite worried!
