Looks shiny now!! Ps mature owner?!
  2. Thanks guys I not bothered by the noise, i am aware this is normal till they heat up. Just wondering what options are to get it fixed apart from new parts, but it looking that way.... Cheers G
  3. Morning all Wondering if anyone can give some advice I have noticed a slight grating noise on my brakes for a while, although this goes when they are warm. (Octy vRS) Nothing sinister there I thought. I have then noticed more recently, that the brakes do not seem to clear water on them, one or tow hairy moments on the motorway as brakes did not bite very quickly. When wet, the initial performance is a bit more “uncertain†until it seems they have had time to clear. I.e. After a wash, it now taking ages to clear the brakes when driving. When dry and brakes heated up, they seem to work totally fine, if a little noisy. I have recently looked at the brakes, the pads seem ok, but there is a slight lip on the front left disc, not so much on the driver side. The brakes only have 14k miles on them (dealer fitted) which to me seems far too small amount to be worn discs. driving style not aggresive at all. if anything is the opposite. Any thoughts? I am not a mechanic at all, and loathe to get new ones so early. Thanks Gordon
  4. They were dealer fitted. And don't look glazed. It has been v wet and they do stick, as though water been cleared from them, but even still, not having confidence in your brakes is a worry!
  5. I am having the exact same problem. Pads and discs only about 15k on them. Hoped they would have lasted longer?! May be break fluid but can't get to it to see the level properly!
  6. 16? My original blade was 11 but I had to get new arm fitted by a dealer which was bigger and used a 13 inch at the back now.
  7. Tris, I have the exact problem as you. I noticed the drivers mirror also does not work. Any solutions be greatly appreciated!
  8. I too having same problem, did anyone find a solution? thanks
  9. Mine does the same, I put it down to water always getting in to boot when opening cos of stoopid design of rear. Ensuring always damp inside car somewhere.
  10. Hi my mk1 vrs is a 55 plate. Registered 1st sept 05. Great condition and 100% standard! Rare for on here!
  11. Thanks, will get looked at when next service is due, in about a month or so. much appreciated
  12. All I have posted previous that my vrs drifts to the left when the steering wheel is straight. i can live with that. What i now have is on moving the wheel, even a smallest fraction to the right, there is a very noticeable almost rubbing / groaning noise. This happens only when turn right, but dont even need to be turning to the right just move the wheel, ie car stays in the same lane etc. This is more noticable above 30mph and gets louder as greater the speed when the wheel is moved (moved, rather than actual a turn) Is this sort of noise, likely to be a bearing? Thoughts be appreciated Thank you G
  13. I would make them pay, but thats only because they own a Corsa!!
  14. Can anyone confirm if you need VAG-com to do this? Thanks
  15. Sorry for raising an old thread! Can anyone assist with where these manifold nuts are? Thanks.
  16. All As above, the nuts / screws to the at the manifold gasket came loose, causing a loud metallic rattle. these were tightened up by the garage as thought was a blown gasket but thankfully was not. Now i have what can only be described as a metallic vibration at about 2000-2500 rpm, which, although relatively quiet, is just soo ruddy annoying when i know it is there!! especially when driving in town. It may be these have not been tightened enough?? The vibration has only ever been since the screws were tightened. How easy are these to look at and tighten up further by myself? Experience level under bonnet is check oil, water, coolant etc! Any photos would be very much appreciated!! Many Thanks Gordon
  17. Just realised after three years ownership my 55 plate only came with rear ones! Prob bit late to go to dealer i bought it from!
  18. My steering wheel does not seem to wobble, just sits about 5-10 degrees to the right to make it go straight. They thought it may be the bearing making it go left, but could not spot anything else. PS is it just me or is a quite of £120 to fix a noisy bearing a bit steep? i did not get it done at that price!!
  19. Thanks Garage came back saying couldnt find anything apart from a noisy bearing (for 120 to fix, i can put up with a noisy bearing!) (will watch it incase gets worse) They did say tyre pressure was at 28, which is strange as when i got new tyres i checked that and put it up to 32 just 5 days ago. said tracking, balancing ok (that is if they actually checked it!) Well, looks like it be tracking left and making a noise!!
  20. Ah, knew that reaction would not take long! It was Ultracs i had on before, not sessantas, and they were very hard and very skittish in the wet, there are several posts on this. The contis are far more forgiving for our west of scotland potholes, and i dont do enough miles that am happy to change at 3mm. Anyway, self justification over..... The noise is not tyre roar as such, almost a whoop whoop whoop which increases with speed, and only at certain speeds (50-70) almost sounds like a bearing, but is when going straight..... confused!
  21. Morning All I had two new tyres on the front last week (replaced overly hard Vredestein Ultracs with Contisport 3s) Since then, i have noticed the car, when steering wheel held straight, tracks to the left. I have put this into a garage to check (not the same one who changed wheels as they scuffed the bumper and denied it even though i was watching! another long story!) I thought it may be tracking had changed with the new tyres, but new garage said unlikely and unlikely this will make it track left. Can i ask if there is much play in the vRS steering, it is slight tracking to the left, and does anyone else have similar issue? Also, there is an awful increase in tyre noise (around 50-70mph), which on previous contis did not spot, could this be related to the tracking issue or just he difference in tyres? Its in garage to get checked at the moment, but they thought initially it may just be the way it is!! Any help appreciated! Thanks all Gordon
  22. I bought an into tape connector and was indeed rubbish, the noise from the tape drowned out the speakers! HOWEVER... i had bought a cheap one (£2). I tried an expensive SONY one (£5!!) and it has been superb, no noise, and good sound quality (ie with original speakers etc, sounds just llike cds that are in) Try get a good one on amazon, saved myself a packet.
  23. Can i ask what pressure you have the vredesteins at? i am finding it difficult to get a decent pressure. Sometimes they are very hard (i admit they are XL, and to be expected) but then to reduce them only 1-2 they totally change.
  24. I have had similar experiences with the vredestien ultracs in the cold, and indeed, i have different tyres on the rear. (Falkens) I also find the vredesteins very stiff. Skttishness was due when accelerating of a roundabout for example, not when braking at all. (safety etc) my answer, is i am amending my driving style to suit conditions...
