  1. I need to pay more attention when reading! Thanks for the info
  2. Fair play, that is some great work! We are looking for a cheap run around and I somehow don't think a 1.8t lump is that hahah. 1.5k seems really cheap for a converted mk1? Wonder if it definitely still has the lump in it?
  3. Yeah I'm not overly worried about the mpg as it's a short distance and 6 of the 8 miles are a 60mph open road which I just leave in 6th. I think I was more concerned about the reliability of the engine. Our mini is starting to fail and the cost of repairs are expensive! Thinking about it, is the previous owner on here? Reg is AV02 HRX and a photo is below. The woman who listed it said it's her sons but she wants him to get rid of it and get a more 'slow' car. Apparently owned by a mechanic prior, who did all of the modifications.
  4. Ah that makes sense. I heard it's the same 2.0 petrol as a mk4 golf gti? Yeah has to be a petrol. It would be our 'run around' car which does 8 miles to work and 8 miles home and that's it. Our mini is diesel and having issues with the EGR/DPF. The fabia mentioned above was simply because it was fairly local, fairly cheap and already modded (coilovers, rear strut brace, piper exhaust system etc). How strong were the engines? Maybe a 2.0 petrol with 115k on the clock isn't the 'cheap run around' that I'm after!
  5. Thank you! Yeah the fabia is the 2.0 petrol. Not a 2.0 petrol in general, just happened to notice this.
  6. Morning all, We are looking to sell our daily run around (mini paceman) due to repair costs and the fact its diesel and we just aren’t doing the distance to warrant a diesel. I’ve got a mk1 Fabia VRS already but I’ve seen a mk1 Fabia elegance for sale (2L engine) quite near. It has approx 115k on the clock and advert states it’s been serviced well etc. I can’t seem to find much info on the 2L apart from annual tax is quite high and the MPG isn’t great. Anyone on here have this model? If so, what are your honest reviews of it? Is 115k a lot for the engine? Thanks in advance! James
  7. Evening all, I am yet again thinking of buying a mk3 Fabia as a daily driver (once I get rid of a few cars). Some of the ones I'm looking at are now pushing 100k and was wondering what sort of mileage are these capable of? When I looked at them previously they were too 'new' to really get an understanding. I appreciate there's a fair few engine variants but would want a 1.2 TSI preferably on a 6 speed box (monte edition). I understand mileage isn't everything and that some low mileage engines can go at any time, vice versa with high mileage cars that have been well looked after can go forever (my mk1 VRs is on 170k and the engine is like brand new, but everything else around it is failing!). What sort of mileage are you all on and on what model/variant? Any issues so far? Thanks in advance, James
  8. Thanks for the reply. I took it to the garage today who read it via the computer and stated there is an intermittent fault showing (can’t remember the code or the message but I think it was to do with voltage). They said to bring it back next week for further diagnosis but maybe the ASR pump. I really don’t want to pay big money and it’s really strange how it came on after my mrs hit the speed bump and scraped all the underneath of the car therefore I have been looking online to hopefully find a cheaper fix! I have read that the ‘load signal wire’ breaking can make the ASR light come on, but would the ABS and handbrake light coke on too? I’m going to check underneath the car later today.
  9. Would the sensor or wiring be on show for it to scrape on a speed bump (post above).
  10. Further information: my partner said that she went over a speed bump (assuming too quick!) and the car scraped as it’s on coilovers. Maybe something has knocked on the bump, but not too sure what?
  11. Evening all, I have a mk1 Fabia Vrs on a 54 plate. My partner got home this evening and stated there’s warning lights on the dashboard (see picture attached). The handbrake light flashes and beeps and the other two remain permanently on. I know the one is the ABS light but not actually sure what the other is? I had the rear discs, pads and handbrake cable replaced about three months ago, then a rear near side wheel bearing replaced about a week ago. I am not sure if it’s a sensor that’s been knocked or maybe fluid related? Any ideas before I ring the garage tomorrow? Thanks in advance. James
  12. Thanks for the help both
  13. Thanks for the replies. Majority seem to say 232mm however the Brembo website says 230mm (picture below). Saying that, would these fit: https://www.gsfcarparts.com/za008650 Thanks James
  14. Morning, I have tried searching online but I am getting different results. Can someone please confirm the rear disc diameter on a 2004 VRS? Some sites say 232mm however ECP and GFS are saying 230mm when I type the reg in. Thanks in advance. James
  15. Thanks all for the responses. I’ll look at getting new ballast’s later. Would I need two per headlight? I have attached a picture of the drivers side unit. Does the bulb fit directly in to the end of the ballast? As if so, the connection must be loose. Thanks James
  16. Ah mate that’s really helpful, thanks. Could that be anything to do with the drivers headlight sometimes flickering and sometimes not working at all?
  17. Thanks for the responses and for the useful info. I will check the part number when my mrs gets home from work later with it. The issues are that I am unable to adjust the aim of the lights and are pretty much aiming way too low and also the drivers side headlight bulb carrier is loose and therefore sometimes doesn’t work. When taking the cover off and firmly holding the bulb carrier thing in place it stays on and as soon as you let go the light turns off.
  18. Hi mate, Thanks for the reply and info, I’ll check tomorrow. If they are xenon’s, are they an aftermarket product or were they an option from Skoda? As I cannot find any for sale online. Thanks James
  19. Evening, long story short, I am getting my mk1 VRS (54 plate) back on the road. I need to get new headlight units due to some faults. I like the current ones I have however when looking on google and other threads I think they have been changed from factory units. I have attached some pictures (albeit not great) and was hoping someone could provide some information on them I.e what they’re called and where I can buy some from? Thanks 😃 James
  20. Morning, I am looking to get some wind deflectors for my 2019 Fabia Monte Carlo. All the deflectors online seem to mention up to 2017 for the Monte Carlo. I’m assuming that the 2019 model (facelift) could use the same deflectors as the 2017 model and the windows/doors are not different sizes?! Thanks James
  21. Evening all, I have recently bought a mk3 Fabia Monte Carlo (2019 plate and 95bhp) whilst my mk1 Fabia vrs is off the road. I am really enjoying the car so far. I thought I’d find the engine too underpowered however it’s fine for my route to work. I don’t plan on any modifications as such (as that’s what I’ve kept my mk1 for) however I fancy changing the headlight bulbs to bright LED / white ones (or whatever they’re named now!) oppose to the standard yellow ones. I feel they look a bit naff against the nice LED strip. Has anyone changed theirs and if so what ones did you go for? Had a look online but not sure of what to get. Thanks
  22. Wouldn’t really get a feel for engine reliability or a true mpg reflection in a 20 minute test drive.
  23. Also, the title should read model not spec 😂
  24. Morning all, I held off buying a mk3 Fabia as I was interested in the mk4 Fabia Monte Carlo, however since seeing the price I am now back on the hunt for a mk3! I need a daily for back and forth to work whilst I take my mk1 Fabia vrs off the road. Ideally I want a Monte Carlo model and the majority with low mileage near me are the 1.0 tsi 95bhp model. I have tried researching these engines but the reviews are just the mk3s in general and not engine specific. How reliable are these engines? Are they dramatically underpowered? Are you revving higher to keep up speed resulting in lower mpg? Is it worth looking for the 110bhp 1.0 model or even going for the 1.2 tsi? Thanks in advance. James
  25. I like the look of the new Monte Carlo however nearly 25k for a 1.5 with only one extra option (winter package) is too high for me. I'd rather pay a small amount more for the Polo GTi.
