  1. So I did some quick tests with the multimeter and power is getting to the fan and the motor and the fuse is all good. I bought a new switch and replaced that too. I still have no heater... Not sure what to do next. Was going to try to get the motor out and have a look at that. I can't get the glove box away to release the motor housing. That's a job for another day. According to autodata a common fault is carbon build up on the motor. It says to run the heater on the highest setting to burn off the carbon. I was hoping to have it working by now 😭
  2. @varooom Thanks for the top tip. I'm now the owner of a portable heater that plugs into the lighter and is classily stuck on the dash with half a packet of blu tack!!!!
  3. Will do. I'm now at the point where the dread of starting the car at 6am, in the hope that it's defrosted and ready to go at 7, is starting to look like a good option.
  4. This is impossible 😭 I've removed the fascia panel and the only screw I can see holding the unit in place. Someone's been here before me because the corner clips are damaged. I can't lever the unit out. There are no end of clips holding it in place but even with an extra pair of hands and both of us going at it, it will not come out. Have I missed something? I'm following the schematic and the only thing I haven't got is 2 screws at 3.1 point 5, labelled 7 on the diagram.
  5. @varooom I didn't anticipate this level of support from anyone on the forum, way above and beyond my expectations. Thank you doesn't cover how grateful I am for your time and expertise 🙏
  6. Flicked cover off control panel, knobs flying off as expected. The buttons were never seated properly. Does this unit just lift out like stereo?
  7. Skomaz and varooom *breaking news* So I pulled cover and wadding away from under the glove box. Located and removed pollen filter, which is black, shoved hand into the fan and it's free spinning. Do I have to/ should I still remove the glove box and the fan cover? I'm hoping that by process of elimination, as the fan is free, I can focus on the switch.
  8. Hi varooom, I have no idea what is working. I did some shopping yesterday, a much nicer activity for me, got fuses and tools. Today the work begins, trying to figure out what the heck is going on with my poor, neglected car. Seems I've let it get into a state and I have to put it right. She's got previous electrical faults that have 'gone away' and been easily forgotten but I know that in order to put my mind at rest, I must deal with it. The first major red flag was the day the wipers would not stop, even with the engine off and the key removed!! Skoda had no idea what to do when I presented them with that. Second major red flag was the wipers not working at all, about 2 years after the first problem. I have airbag light on dash which disappears after a while. All I'm trying to do is ensure that the heater will work before the bad weather comes .
  9. Thanks nta16, from memory that's how the stereo is wired in. I wanted to replace the original radio and have a USB to charge phone. This is Halfords (apologies for swearing) handywork. I was really hoping to get away with doing the bare minimum (I'm not lazy just terrified of anything electrical) and now realise I'm going to have to spend the afternoon in the passenger footwell. I must also confess at this stage that I have only just figured out that I have a pollen filter and it's location. I'm not looking forward to removing the fan housing but can't think of an alternative. Wish me luck 🤞
  10. Firstly Skomaz I was just looking at the fuse box for the obvious green or white fuses to try to get my bearings and work my way around from there. I hate anything to do with electrics because it's such a minefield. I've replaced the blower fuse in the position I believe is 39 and I still have no action. I'm going to attempt to follow your advice and locate the fan from the passenger footwell. Does this require removing panels?
  11. Thank you for your response KenONeill. I am aware of the left hand/right hand drive but if you have seen the picture of my fuse box, you will notice that several key fuses are missing or the wrong amp. I think I'm looking to replace 39 -blower and 42 - heated rear windscreen. Going to get on with that this morning and see how it goes. I will report the outcome later 🤞
  12. For some unknown reason my fuses do not correspond to the image on the inside cover of the box.
  13. Hi Skomaz, thanks for the reply. Can't quite fathom the fuse box, give me a clue please? Willing to chuck a can of WD at the fan but it's not visible from the top. What's the best way to access the fan? Wouldn't mind giving it a wobble first. Had the car for 8 years and the fan only ever worked on the highest setting. That stopped about 2 years ago. I'm determined to get this going again just need some expertise and know how.
  14. Can anyone offer any further advice please? Just replaced the blower resistor as I've had no fan for a few years. I wanted to be ready for the cold weather and not have to fight with the ice and condensation. I followed the brilliant tutorial and found it really straightforward to replace the part. What else could it be? I really need to get this sorted before the bad weather comes.
  15. Hi Eddie-NL, I am in Norfolk. Fault seems to be intermittent; after I posted on Monday and it stopped raining, I went back to start assessing the problem. Firstly the traction/esp warning light had disappeared from the dash. Then the wipers started working. Then yesterday I was able to open the boot too. The only outstanding issue is the airbag warning light that is still illuminated. I clearly have a problem with water getting in somewhere. Going to have a good look around when I finish work later today.
  16. Having a day off work today as my Skoda Roomster Scout (2008, 1.4tdi) is showing several faults. Firstly I couldn't get into the boot, locked car and unlocked it using key and fob, it will not open. Got into car in heavy rain and the front wipers don't work, rear wiper working normally. Dash has airbag and traction control system warning lights illuminated permanently. I haven't been able to go anywhere as the rain is persistent so I've been trying to figure out if I can cure the problem with fuses? I don't have vag-com here and can't take her to a garage. Any advice appreciated, thanks.
