Engine overheating warning?
You've got it. I'd go for a 20 minute drive, 1 hour drive and it would be ok. Then seemingly random occasions it would overheat. Just don't want it happening at a super inconvenient time or place... Stay safe. Don't mess around with a faulty waterpump.

Engine overheating warning?
Correct the service interval is about 5 years or 140000 miles. I had a diesel vrs MK3 and it's waterpump went at 6 years old with 75k miles on the clock. Honestly if your overheating, it's the usual culprit.

Right here you have a nice long lived water pump. Time for a new one.

Buzzing around drivers door
What a pain in the arse... Just picked up a 19 plate sportline 4x4... Whirring when high revs. Maybe the garage I bought from will get it fixed.... It was a Citroen garage not a Skoda garage!

Interior Light Switch Issues
Thanks so much, will take a look at mine at some point.

Interior Light Switch Issues
Yeah this is right, there's a real detailed link here, also read somewhere that the led lights do still get hot and can be a bit bigger so position needs to be considered, not sure how much freedom there is... Please do report back here with progress, my ultimate goal is to repair the fault, then replace bulbs with diodes. I'm following closely! Any advice on bulbs or fitting/coding (no code better for me!) would be appreciated. Also worth considering, as the front and rear interior lights run through the same rig, both sets should be replaced to reduce that current running through the crappy board in the main unit (just my hunch challenge welcome).

Interior Light Switch Issues
I have a 2013 2.0 tdi with the broken/burnt out switch issue. Spoke to a breakers. £60 Inc vat and p&p on the whole part.... Sounds good but the breaker car has stuff that mine doesn't (sunroof etc.) Not sure how to approach this!

Another Octavia Mk3 overheating!
Yep this is what the linked video explains. What it doesn't explain is why the car overheated so rapidly later on in the day. It had been several hours since taking to the local garage. My understanding of the symptoms was that the car would behave normally and then once up to temperature the cooling system doesn't kick in leading to an overheat. Not really akin to driving for less than a minute then overheating that quick. I pray its the water pump or something less serious... Maybe the thermostat is dodgy and making the car think its overheating when actually it's not, leading to the whirring fans and dash warning when really everything's fine... Hate not having a car I feel trapped!

Another Octavia Mk3 overheating!
Hello, this is my first proper post. I have been having the overheating issue since January. One morning as I got up to speed, the maxi dot showed the overheating warning and a long beeep came from the dash. I pulled over, let the engine cool, took it home and booked into a local garage. They diagnosed "auxiliary water pump fault" through a code reader, they changed the part and £140 later I had my car back working perfectly. Fast forward 6 months to the jubilee weekend. I was driving with my kids and as we got to 70 it happened again. I pulled over, let the engine cool, spent the weekend with no car, took it back on the Tuesday. The garage could find no fault codes, got it on a rolling road, took it for a town drive on the route it overheated and they couldn't reproduce the issue. Coolant fine, plenty of oil... The cars checked regularly and dealer serviced every year. Yesterday, a week later it happened again. I was about 15 miles from home, kids in the car again.... Same thing, waited for the needle to drop, went on home, parked on the drive, called the garage again, went down and again no codes they said its not the auxiliary pump and to book it in. This time I researched and found a couple of interesting links. The first is another thread on here talking about the common water pump issue where the engine gets to temp and the pump doesn't kick in. The other is a YouTube video of a guy walking through the fault in tremendous detail. Spoke to the local garage and they said if the pump comes out then the belt needs changing and they would charge upwards of £650. I booked in the car to a main dealer, they quoted under £500 so cheaper than local. (probably going to end up expensive but hopefully they know what they are doing)... Can't get an appointment for 10 days. I thought I could nip to the shops later on today. It was 31c outside and the car had been in full sun all morning. I drove the car for seconds and it was at 90c on the dial after idling to turn right, I had to find somewhere to turn round, by the time I got onto my drive, it was almost at the red marker. I waited a minute and tested idle, the dial went back past 90c after idling for 30 seconds. When I got out of the car I noticed a rattling/clicking noise from one of the fans, and I have never heard the fans as loud as they were, the engine seemed warm but not 130c hot. My uncle thinks the head gasket, thermostat, or coolant leak, but I would have expected fault codes for such issues. So frustrating. Do garages actually troubleshoot anymore or just read codes and change parts?? I'm at a loss, still owe £2k on repayments and don't have a car to cart the family around. Such a nightmare. I'm terrible at searching forums and can't seem to narrow down what else it could be. I'm now not even confident enough to drive it to the dealers so arranging tow. Just wanted to tell my story. When I've had my appointment I will do my best to remember to come back here and post an update.

Engine overheating warning?
Thanks for getting back to me. I found a car sparky who seems to have a good reputation and charges 40 an hour no vat. All other places my way are 75+vat per hour. Enough to make your eyes water. There's got to be something going on so will get him in and post here after.

Engine overheating warning?
Similar issue here to 2.0 tdi 2014 Octavia VRS. Auxiliary pump changed in January this year (2022) 65k on clock and full dealer service history. On a dual carriage way hit 85mph after 30 minutes of town driving. Temp needle climbed up just under the red. Warning symbol on dash so pulled over on the grass verge, waited, drove car to local airfield no sign of excess heat from engine... Car drove OK after. Booked it in with the garage that did the pump replacement they could find no codes logged and couldn't replicate the issue. All this after leaving my car on the drive over the jubilee weekend! I had a skoda data plug in the odb port. The garage thinks I should leave it out (it's useless anyway)... But reading the hunch that it could be electrical... One thing I've noticed recently is that my interior light doesn't come on when we open the doors. If I give the switch a hard tap they flash intermittently... Probably just a dodgy switch and not connected but anyway... Would be great to hear if the auto sparky has found anything...

VRS Spoiler/Boot Paint Cracking
This could literally be a photo of mine. Now a 7 year old car Skoda have refused to fix it under the body warranty, according to skoda there are only 2 types of rust/paint defect covered and this fault isn't one of them. I have found a body shop who say they think there is a 75% chance they can do a semi respray with whole panel lacquer cover using the contours to hide masking for 180 quid. Not really willing to pay 300-600 offered at alternative businesses. As long as its sealed and I don't get worms all is good. Thanks all for the advice on the washers, I will let them know so it doesn't happen again in a few years! When he was inspecting the damage he gave the spoiler a little wobble and thinks the cause is down force fluctuations with the tiny bits of road grit under the spoiler slowly waring the paint away and letting water in. He said he was going to put a plastic sticker under there to ward the issue off. Cheers CR
