  1. Thanks for replies.  The consensus seems to be get it serviced soon.

Given that it is on a long service interval, which doesn't really fit in with my low annual mileage.  I would probably be best off getting it changed to a fixed, annual regime, how do I get it changed? Obviously a main dealer could do it, could an independent local garage? Do they use a different grade of oil?  I currently have a bottle of Motul 5w30 VW 00 504 / 00 507, as I like to keep some oil to top up if required.  Also if I get it done at an independent garage, do I need to say to use a certain standard of oil?

    Thanks again

  2. I bought a 61 plate Octavia 1.8 TSI petrol car in February this year. It was explained that it had a "long service interval"  which (from looking at the on board computer) I remembered would be about the end of August. The on board computer says now service in 18 days (2 years I think since its last service) or 3000 miles.

Now the MOT is due at the end of February, should I wait until then till I take it for a service and MOT? I am a pretty low user and have only done about 1,500 miles in the past 6 months (and don't envisage a significant change for the coming 6 months, and do have a bottle of the correct oil (VW 504 00) to keep the oil topped up.

Does anyone else have this long service interval and what would you do?

    Thanks

  3. Hello all,

I have just bought a 2011 Octavia 1.8 SE Plus and have a couple of queries:

It did not come with a spare wheel (just the pump and repair fluid stuff), now I would like a full size spare (probably steel to keep costs down) it has 205/55/16 tyres.  Can I simply buy a wheel off ebay for a VAG car that has the correct size tyre on it (e.g. this one for a Golf / Bora), or do I need to be more precise?  I would also like the "Spare kit" (e.g. the polystyrene insert that contains the jack, wrench etc.) This one on Skodaparts.com states it is for the VRS, L&K and Scout 16", would this be ok?  The image for the 15" and 16" versions seem to be identical.

Also the car is a QG1 (Variable) service interval.  The manual says to use VW 504 00 oil, I would like to keep a litre or two of this in the boot for topping up.  What oil would you recommend and where is good to get it from?

    Many thanks

  4. Hello all, I hope you will be able to help me with a problem I have with my 2003 1.4 100bhp Fabia, it's probably a bit long-winded but I'll try and keep it brief.

In November 2011 as I went to pull away the throttled died (as if the 'cable' had snapped, I know its fly-by wire) and the EPC and 'triangle' light came on, but when I stopped the engine and restarted it it was fine again and did not happen again for about 6 months. This happened a couple more times so in September 2012 had a new throttle pedal fitted.

This has not happened since however what happens fairly regularly is when I slow to a stop (at a junction) the revs fall (as you'd expect) then keep falling and the engine stops/dies and the EPC and 'triangle' light come on. I can quickly switch off and restart the engine but it's getting to be a pain.

In conjunction I know a need a new exhaust as it only just passed its emissions test on the MOT last year. The Engine light is almost always on too (possibly for the Cat./Emissions but maybe for something else?). I do have a mini hand-held reader (UIF-tech I think) that gives out a 4 digit code (or codes).

Additionally I do suffer with the common wet foot-well problem, and am trying to manage this by using a wet and dry vacuum on it regularly. Could the moisture from this be causing problems?

    Many thanks for your help.

  7. Heres a linkto what I bought on ebay.

It comes with a CD that has a folder in it called Drivers, the only .exe file in there is to uninstall the drivers.

By going to Device Manager it shows up in Ports (COM & LPT), so by reinstalling the driver and then browsing to the CD it installs something and in Device Manager it now shows up as USB Serial Port (Com 3. Going to VCDS Lite I select Com 3 and click test and it says Port Status OK, Interface Not found.

    What a crock of ....

    Thanks

  8. Hello all ,I bought a cheap VAGcom cable, off ebay, and am struggling to get it to work.

It came with a mini CD so I (copied it to a USB stick as well as VCDS Lite from Ross Tech) put it on my netbook. I ran the exe file Release4091us.exe which seemed to install a VAGcom programme. When I plug the lead into the computer the usual windows messages pop up about a new device and installing drivers, so I browse for the c:\Program Files\Vag Com folder but it doesn't find the drivers.

When I open VAG-Com Release 409-1 and go to options and select USB and click Test it doesn't work (obviously).

I also installed VCDS Lite, and noticed that this doesn't have a USB option.

Please help, it's getting frustrating, I thought it would be a case of install drivers from disc, then install VCDS Lite and Bob's yer uncle, but no!

  9. On Sunday I was pootling along in my 2003 Fabia 1.4 16V, when all of a sudden I had no power so I pulled over to the side of the road. The engine was still idling perfectly smoothly (not lumpy at all) but if I pressed the throttle nothing happened the revs remained constant! The Engine Management end EGR/ECR (I think) lights were on on the dash.

I called the breakdown people, then switched the ignition off. After 20 seconds I restarted then engine and it revved absolutely fine, so I drove back home (it drove as normal, not in Limp Home mode) (and cancelled the recovery). I used it later that evening and it seemed fine again and the dash warning lights were not illuminated either.

Now not sure if this is relevant but the Catalytic converter had developed a small rattle (a few weeks ago, before this break down), so I was planning on getting the exhaust done in the spring time, before its MOT.

What do you chaps reckon? A bit of moisture on a sensor or a complete ECU problem? Any thoughts or advice?

    Thanks for your help.

  10. Hi again guys, after months of inactivity on my part to sort out my car stereo, I've had a go at it, and still cannot get it to retain its settings when the ignition is off. Have a look at the photos below, this is how it is currently configured. Note the red and yellow bullett connectors. Please help.

  11. You will need to switch the wiring, but the Alpine loom will have bullet connectors on the wiring to do this. Just check it remembers radio stations before you push it all the way in.

    .

Sorry for jumping in on this thread.

I have a 2003 1.4 Fabia, and have changed the standard radio cassette for my Sony CD MP3 radio.

I connected it using the standard ISO connection that was in the car and the radio's ISO connector (ie I didn't buy any other connectors).

The problem is that no power gets to the radio when the ignition isn't on therefore I lose the radio presets and the position on the CD. Also it's interesting that when you switch off the ignition the interior light does not come on instantly but after about 3 seconds. Do I need to adjust some wiring or buy something?

    Any help gratefully received.

    Thanks
