  1. That may be a option, we was rushing to beat the rain and probably missed a clip, will have to take a look
  2. I did give it a tug to see if it was easily removed, it didn’t look like it so I parked it in gear and walked away, my biggest concern is why the cable is so much longer, probably 2-3” longer
  3. thank you, it is a VRS on discs so I am confused as to what’s going on there unless of course he has give me the wrong item but that’s not likely, it would make sense why the dealership price was £38 compared to the £14 I paid at euros
  4. So I have been through 4 calipers in 2 years and now my handbrake cable is binding, no problem I thought, got a new cable from euros and had a mate get under there thanks to my bad back, he struggled getting the sleeve out of the metal guide and ended up snapping 10mm off the end, (I thought I could maybe compensate for this with a spacer or adjustment) but then he got to caliper side and the cable is much too long, much longer than the length of the metal tube break before thinking it’s that. was there different lengths for different sides or models? The guy at euro said they were listed as left or right, and can the metal guide tubes be replaced as I imagine that does dictate the adjustment and length of the overall cable
  5. So started noticing a bit of smoke on startup and my entire engine bay covered in oil, a little I can understand but this seems to be a lot. the filter is dry but the pipes have oil in them, I understand a little is normal but how much is too much? my turbo has always been a bit whistly but I am starting to think we may have a problem
  6. we managed to fit the new rears no problem, they are still stock sized, the front have been a issue because they had fitted a bigger brake set up before it came to me. I think my mechanic may have ordered the 4 wheel drive brakes accidentally after what everyone has been saying
  7. I understand that, my plan was to get it all up to a good condition and just do the normal bolt on things and flash maps knowing that it’s on borrowed time, it doesn’t bother me if it blows up tomorrow as I will just go pick up a engine or another car and transfer the bits over as I enjoy the platform and will be sticking with something PD based for a while, it’s a second car to get me to work and back but I still want it to make me smile a bit, I will have to take a closer look and do a better measure up. Thank you
  8. Much appreciated, thankyou. I have neglected the car with my work schedule and want to get it back to top notch. and tighten everything up a bit
  9. They don’t unfortunately, they are definitely 312mm as the previous owner got a kit and I measured them it’s just the offset which is different, he thought they came off a good gti or a Octavia vrs but now he is thinking maybe they came off the TT225
  10. The next problem is I just had the brakes done for the MOT the rear calipers failed AGAIN, was only replaced last year. went to replace the fronts but they are not the ones I was told, was told they were off a golf gti with the 312mm set up but the offset was wrong. since been told they are more than likely Audi TT 225 / Octavia VRS 312mm is there a certain type people use that will narrow my choices down as I can’t keep buying and returning.
  11. I have just been looking through some of the stuff I was told about the car when I got it, man’s this is some of the oil that’s blowing all over the shop I think for the minimal mods it has it is pretty much at the peak of what it can do, he did say I could get a stage 2 map but after that I would need more. is it worth pushing any further on a 230k mile engine Xman 1752 turbo Air tech intercooler Air tech silicone boost hoses Pd150 head bolts Egr delete 312mm front brakes 215/45/16 Revo Stage 1 map
  12. I couldn’t believe the weight of the seat backs on these! I’m used to 90s sh*tboxes that are made out of recycled foam and tins.
  13. That makes sense thank you, I will have to see if my generic code reader can pick it up or not.
  14. So I joined a long while ago and forgot, I also pretty much forgot to look after the car with everything going on in my life so decided now is the time to get her back up to a good condition I brought the car as a £1000 beater to commute whilst my other cars perpetually destroy themselves, in that time I have seen the prices rise and have really enjoyed the car so time to look after it. trouble is I have no clue about anything to do with these things, if it was a cosworth or a rotary no problem but this is all new to me, revently cleaned up the interior a bit as it was looking proper tatty, main issue (other than repeated new rear calipers) has been a amber traction / abs type light that comes on after a bit of driving that I cannot clear and just got a oil leak somewhere around the top end / boost pipes, are these a common problem / fix. also need to focus on the inter cooler / boost pipe work as it looks like it’s being held there with hopes and prayers. Don’t know if it’s worth putting the time in on a 230k car but she seems to be running sweet so May as well do some quick cheap fixes to keep it that way
  15. That’s a nice set up, I did similar with a car PC I installed a few years ago, forgot that OBD readers can provide all this information.
  16. It’s around 219000 at the moment but starts perfect and seems to be doing well for it
  17. It has already been played with, that’s why I want to be able to monitor things, I want to keep an eye on boost levels as I didn’t do the work and I wasn’t there when it was mapped, at the moment all I really know is it’s had a 1752 turbo fitted, FMIC, headbolts, hoses and revo tune, would be nice to keep an eye on things and make sure she is right as she is a high miler
  18. Thankyou for the help, I have a lot to learn and play with, it’s good fun though
  19. Just got myself a Mk1 VRS and I am new to this whole diesel thing I normally play with Japanese stuff but needed some comfort and mpg, the one I have got has been played with and I would like to monitor things like temps and boost etc is there any gauges like the P3 displays available that the gold owners can get where I could monitor things in a subtle display? would also like to know the best place to pull vac from for a gauge, it has a EGR delete pipe fitted I have noticed, I am due some new tyres soon, is there a favoured set up for these or some that don’t work well, I am looking at playing with it a bit but I don’t want to get carried away as this is my “sensible daily” that I have got because my other projects are all broken.
  20. Hi,

Miket1984 posted a topic in Hellos and Goodbyes
Just a quick post to get my post count up and say hi, just got a Fabia Mk1 and know nothing about them so thought the forum would be useful for advice when I inevitably break it
