  1. OK - Skoda Vehicle Diagnostic Report screen grabs attached. Obviously I've no idea how to interpret these but hopefully might give you a sense of the boat I'm in. And whether I'm in £1k replacement module territory. Many thanks.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I’ve seen all the error codes listed on garages A4 print out but need to take a photo. The speedometer stopped working today - the needle refusing to register any speed whilst on the motorway and the dash yelled ‘BRAKES!’ At me. The joys
  3. I think they read them - will check tomorrow. But they said when they cleared them, all the fault codes were cleared and remained cleared. Until the warning lights all popped on again. Do the warning lights returning trigger fault codes again?
  4. Only 35k miles on my lovely Superb Elegance TSI 1.8 estate. 2014. Had repeated issues with warning lights coming on dash. A garage can clear but then they come back on again after a couple of days. Current garage has a good diagnostics background and are saying the entire ABS module needs to be sent off - possibly with ABS filter as these can’t be separated (?). Then looking at @£500 for a new ABS module with @£400 labour. And then still can’t guarantee warning lights won’t reappear. They’ve cleared the fault lights multiple times, diagnostics then says no faults, and then fault lights back on again. A my wits end. Any advice? Or go ahead with the work? Just not sure what boat I’m in. Any thoughts much appreciated.
  5. Thanks so much for everyone's input. HUGELY appreciated. I've found a helpful VCDS holding member nearby and will take it from there. Thanks again
  6. Have enjoyed my 2014 Superb 1.8 petrol estate Elegance for a couple of years but then erroneous warnings and lights started coming on - abs, light tracking, tyre pressure etc. I knew they were erroneous because tyres were def no losing pressure etc. My wife got nervous and wanted me to have them checked out by the local garage before a long drive. Garage said they 'updated the computer' and 'updated bug fixes' but now these warnings come on MORE frequently. And I paid £300 for this 'service'!! Wondering what the issue might be - or if more gravity to it then simply getting the garage to up their game? Should I suggest they use or pay for a particular update to their system? Thanks so much in advance.
  7. I'm very happy with an alloy wheel refurbishment on my Trinities (Superb Estate Mark II 1.8 Elegance). The garage didn't replace the centre caps because they said the corrosion on the caps might crack the new lacquer. But I don't want to be spending nearly £40 on new caps. I'm not so precious about the wheels looking stunning (I'm just delighted the refurb means they're not leaking air anymore). I can break off the cap corrosion with my nail but I wondered if there's a better way that might result in a smoother (lacquer protecting) finish? Caps otherwise seem absolutely fine. Any thoughts, tips great appreciated.
  8. Bought my Superb 1.8 petrol estate Elegance with automatic gearbox 2 years ago and have had slow leaking tyres ever since. Changed valves, then tyres and now looking to refurb the alloys. I'd probably buy a new set of wheels but I've just had a new set of Michelin CrossClimate 2 fitted. Wheels are the 18" Trinities (see pics). Previous owner did very few miles and lived by the coast in Northern Scotland. Spoke to a refurb (https://spitandpolish.co.uk) place today and they said the alloy corrosion is getting between the tyre and wheel - so I'm looking to get the wheels fully refurbed. They also offer a 12 month warranty for the work. But they're Tonbridge and I wondered if anyone knew of a similar service closer to me in SE London that might also offer a warranty. Best, Nick
  9. Thanks fort that GDcobra - very helpful thoughts. I actually went to Kwikfit to address the tyres losing pressure in the interim - and just as chimaera mentioned, it was a corroded value on the front passenger side! They replaced it free of charge so kudos to kwik fit. Pressures looks stable now so I'm thinking of seeing the current tyres out and taking stock again then. But such helpful thoughts to reference here. Thank you.
  10. Outstanding intel! Thank you so much for taking the time to share this knowledge. It’s a massive help and gives me a very clear road map for next steps. Off to the tyre fitter I go...
  11. Lovely. Thanks for the pointer Carlston and thoughts Rkdee. Looks like I need to get the current rims checked over and see if it's currently a tyre or rim issue that's causing air loss. N
  12. Yes. I found that very very helpful. I was just being specific about where my thoughts currently were. N
  13. Thanks Carlston. So you'd go for the 16" and buy them new? Sounds like my current front wheels could be leaking air. I could ask Kwik Fit to check and possibly repair. My local independent garage said they steer well clear of tyre repairs because they never end up fixing them. The tyres are almost new when I bought about 3k miles ago. They don't look damaged so it could well be an alloy issue. Hmm.
  14. There's clearly quite a lot of variables in play. I'm nervous about straying beyond any Skoda recommendations so my options are: A) Keep my 18" Trinity alloys in the 225/40 R18 configuration but change out the Kumho WinterCraft tyres for a quieter, more fuel efficient option - (recommendations welcome). The front 2 tyres have dropped from 32 psi to 23 psi over the last 6 weeks so there's an issue there. or Spend about £360 on a second hand set of Superb 17" alloys (see below) and go for a 225/45 R17 configuration. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-SUPERB-2012-2015-ALLOY-WHEEL-225-45-17-2/114678740855?hash=item1ab362b777:g:Wv0AAOSwltBgJDMw But my question would be, is there really that much difference in comfort between the two options? I won't be doing a huge amount of miles. Am I going down quite an admin exhaustive route of buying second hand alloys which turn out to be pups (I'm no expert)? Then possibly getting them reconditioned? I know a lot of this is personal preference. The 16" alloy option does seem too small on a car of this size. So it's either stick or twist with the 17" option....
  15. They look fantastic @Rdkee! So you'd def go for the 17" over the 16"? N
  16. Brilliant. I’ll get reading! Wow - loving the shared knowledge on here. Thank you.
  17. I’ve just bought my first car at the age of 43. A very sensible (and luxurious) Superb 1.8 petrol estate Elegance with automatic gearbox. It’s only got 24k on the clock and I love it. I live in London and won’t be doing huge miles but when I do, they’ll be mostly motorway miles on journeys of 4 hrs plus. The Elegance came with the Skoda Trinity alloys and the previous owner had some Kumho WinterCraft 225/40 R18 92V tyres fitted which are showing very little wear. I can feel/hear quite a bit of road noise and I’m reading that these tyres aren’t the best for noise, fuel consumption or braking in general (especially in the wet). As the amount of miles I’ll be doing in winter/snow will be very, very limited indeed - I was looking to change tyres. But looking at some forums (Honest John for example) there’s a lot written about the very hard ride of 18 inch alloys, the fact this car weighs over 2000kg, should never have been fitted with 18 inch alloys, and this ‘premium look’ is something manufactures do knowing that’ll it’ll lead customers to buy more and more tyres. The front end of this car is heavy etc and will eat low profile tyres like this for breakfast. SO - I was thinking of changing to 16 inch alloys and a suitable tyre and maybe putting the Trinity’s onto eBay or similar. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience re this. I’m not too bothered about looks (although the Trinity‘s look very nice) - just more interested in ride comfort, road noise and fuel economy. I’m also not sure what 16 inch alloy would fit. I’m mindful of keeping the Speedo accurate and I LOVE the park assist automatic parking function and wouldn’t want to throw that out. Any help/advice much appreciated.
