  1. OK so apparently it was the actual throttle pedal that needed replacing, I presume it has some electronics attached to it because the genuine Skoda part cost £160! In case you were wondering, no, my mechanic is not a swindler! 😆
  2. Having had quite a few multiple warning lights thrown up that turned out to be nothing more that a dirty fuse (one of the two up near the screen end of the fuse box) I'm fully expecting the temp gauge issue to be something like that. Related to that, the needles for the temp and fuel gauge have become invisible at night. The gauges are illuminated but the needles aren't. Which is odd. Will update the throttle sensor thing when the replacement arrives.
  3. Turns out to be the throttle position sensor. Unusual failure on these apparently.
  4. Morning all. As per the title really, 2010 Scout, 125k miles, the OH has this morning reported sluggish performance, a heavy throttle and the temp gauge needle is stuck on the low (50) mark instead of its usual 90 midpoint. Does this sound like a blocked EGR valve? Thanks for any thoughts. Tony
  5. OK, a result! And a really easy one, now we know! After a good visual check (wiring all perfect) and an exhaustive Snap-On OBD diagnosis we discovered nothing wrong other than a load of fault codes probably caused by me disconnecting and reconnecting the new battery for the last few days. I hadn't trusted the car not to flatten my new £80 battery soI had been disconnecting it after every trip. Arriving at the garage I left it connected and noticed that the fan wasn't coming on. To cut a long story short we reckon it was simply the old and presumably failing battery causing the fan run-on. It hasn't happened since so we're thinking that's what it was. Shame I wasted money on the coolant temp switch but at least I know I've got a new (genuine) part in there now. So, very much worth checking the battery condition if you have this fan problem.
  6. My 2010 Scout 2.0 diesel has got this problem now. Battery flattened, replaced the coolant temp switch and the battery but the fan is still coming on randomly with the engine off. Can't walk away and trust it not to come on while I'm sat oblivious in the house so I'm having to disconnect the new batt all the time to avoid another flattening! Went through the whole engine bay fuse box, all looks OK in there, gave the fusebox area a good blowover with the hair dryer because this has been a cause of other electrical issues in the past (multiple bulb malfunctioning) but it was actually dry and all the fuses looked good. Hoping it's the chafed wiring that has been mentioned on here rather than the whole fan replacement thing. Going in on Friday for my local guy to hopefully trace the issue.
  7. Not personally but I assumed the garage would have done that. Maybe they didn't. They did say it must be a broken wire somewhere but I suspect they may not have allocated time for tracing that in my visit. Thanks again.
  8. Thanks for the reply MicMac. We've had that tailgate panel off a few times now but no joy, I just wondered if there were less obvious 'known' places where the wire might break or where there might be any hidden connectors that might fail.
  9. Our 2010 Scout tailgate only works on the plipper, ie the microswitch under the tailgate lip doesn't work. In early stages of investigation my friendly garage took the lock/motor assembly out to get the part number for ordering in. Oddly, when they put the old motor back in place while we waited for the part to arrive the microswitch started working. A couple of days later it fritzed out again so we booked the car back in again for the new motor to be fitted. Yes I know it seems odd to be concentrating on the motor but that's what we did. The new motor didn't resolve the problem (surprise) so we came to the conclusion that it had to be the microswitch. I gather that moisture can get into these so we thought that had to be the answer but when the new switch was fitted it still didn't work. The only culprit we can now think of is a broken wire. I know some Renaults have this wire breaking problem, usually (and conveniently!) in the concertina wire protector in the corner of the tailgate. Has anybody else had a problem with their Octavia estate tailgates? As I say, it's working fine on the plipper which is presumably bypassing the microswitch. Grateful for any thoughts. Thanks Tony
  10. No worries, I've hopefully located some at Simpsons Skoda at £4-odd each
  11. Hello all, we have recently become very happy owners of a Skoda Octavia Scout 2.0 CRD (Mk 2, 2011) and have already had cause to be grateful to this forum for solving a mysterious multiple bulb failure. The only other small problem we have is a thrumming vibration at low rpm which I've traced to three missing grommets on the engine cover. I'll go to a Skoda dealer if I have to as I imagine they won't be expensive and of course I could just wedge some general purpose grommets in there but I thought there'd be no harm in asking here in case anyone knows of a good source. I've had a look on all the usual sites but no joy so far. Thanks in advance for any advice, Tony
  12. Thanks MicMac, it's a bit awkward for me to get under the car for various reasons but I like the sound of your theory, the roads around here are very bad and we have been driving them in bad weather conditions so maybe an exhaust heat shield or similar has come adrift, it's fine when the car is moving, it's only really at idle or just off idle. I'm taking the car in on Wednesday for a check over, they're good lads there and probably won't charge me for an examination and a tighten up of any loose bits.
  13. Yep, that was it, one of the two terminals on the milky green fuse nearest to the window was completely black, very odd, I sanded it off and with the help of the village octagenarian telling me which lights were working it appears that we have had a result. Many thanks again to the forum for the existing info resource and for the extra help today.
  14. I'll be giving it a go in the next hour and will send an update, thanks again. While I'm on, the missis is complaining of a low frequency noise at low revs which has started in the last couple of weeks and which I'm guessing must be exhaust related. Is this a common thing with these cars? We've only had it a little while. It's a 2010 Scout CRD, with around 93,000 miles. We love it apart from these minor issues.
