  1. Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I’m not very handy so I will be getting some opinions/quotes from local VAG specialists. My worry is it could still be a big expense, although I like the car it may give me a decision to make on whether it’s more sensible to cash in on current used car prices and sell to someone like WBAC or Motorway.
  2. So this didn’t go so well today at Skoda, they found a few problems, the main one being the coolant system being contaminated by a split in the silicone bag resulting in the coolant being discoloured. For this to be repaired they are quoting £1350! To say I was shocked would be an understatement especially as the car only has 8k miles on it. Does this sound right? I intend to get a second and third opinion but wondered what it might cost at an independent.
  3. Thanks for all the advice, service booked in next week!
  4. Hi, I was just looking for Some advice on servicing, I bought my 2017 Octavia VRS last April with only 3k miles on the clock, it had a service in 2019 but no more due to being on a long life schedule with the low mileage under the previous owner. I’ve always been someone who has got my car serviced annually regardless of mileage so was planning to shortly, the car now has 8k miles on it. Am I right to do so or can these cars really go that long without service?
  5. Likes - love the look of my vrs, just enough subtle edge about it, the 230 tsi engine can be a peach, the space is unrivalled, nice short gearbox, ambient lighting, the bang for buck too I guess Dislikes - the road noise, having come from a mk7 golf it’s truly atrocious in comparison!!! Just the general build quality isn’t there compared to my old golf, the sound from the stereo is so poor, the rattles are really quite annoying. As mentioned the electric window buttons are way too far forward, the USB port area is a little messy as a design in my opinion as you can’t fully hide the wires (why not just put it in the armrest?) oh dear my dislikes list seems to be longer…
  6. Thanks for all the advice. still unsure what to do about the rattle, hopefully new tyres will help when that day comes. Do wind deflectors on the windows make any difference? just annoying these are all problems in the first place!
  7. No stupid questions 🙂 Generally never put anything in door pockets as know that can cause rattles but tried padding it out with some cloths which didn’t make any difference. Cant tell if issue is in door or window!
  8. Hi, I’ve been having increasing issues with a horrible rattle on the drivers side door in my mk3 FL VRS, it’s fine on smooth surfaces but frankly irritating on anything rougher. Is this a common issue with refinement on the VRS or is it worth getting it looked at by Skoda? Had the car 6 months now and although I’m enjoying the all round quantities, having come from a MK7 golf I am really struggling with the inferior refinement, the road noise on rougher surfaces is the most horrendous I’ve experienced in any of the cars I’ve owned. Still have the rubbish default Bridgestones on but when the time comes to change them im praying that some better tyres make a difference. Thanks in advance
  9. In my short 6 months ownership I feel like it ticks nearly all the boxes but specialises in nothing. As mentioned previously if you need the space for family etc it’s great for that. But..I imagine your bmw is pretty well refined, be warned that things like road noise in the vrs can be shockingly bad.
  10. I guess it’s all relative really, I just checked out the motorway site and they offered £3k more for mine than I paid but if I did cash in and replaced it I would only find everything else has gone up too so I’d still be looking at cars in the same bracket. But if you can cash out now and don’t need a car or can wait the 6-12 months for it to calm down then all power to you!
  11. Couple of pictures here. Do sometimes check auto trader and barely seen any in my region (Norfolk) since I bought mine. I am happy with the vrs, like to think I did get a good deal but been such a funny year for used car market it’s hard to know.
  12. Just in racing blue. Wasn’t my first choice of colours but knew I couldn’t be too picky on that as the vrs so rarely comes up in my part of the country.
  13. Hi, used car market is very strange this year and I’ve always wondered if I got a good deal and be intrigued to get your thoughts. Always wanted a vrs and after there being pretty much nothing in my county one came up at a dealer half a mile away in April, 67 plate vrs tsi manual blue 230, no heated seats but in pretty much perfect condition with only 3k miles on clock and 1 previous owner. Drove great so bit the bullet and paid £17k. Hope I didn’t pay too much although prices now look crazy!
  14. It’s a facelift, I’m not very good at these things but even with some long screwdrivers and following a couple of YouTube videos we couldn’t get enough leverage and even with a couple of silver clips snapping off it still wasn’t moving at all. probably just being a bit stupid with it but not good at fiddly stuff like this
