  1. Just to clarify, using a screwdriver for the emergency release through the crescent shaped hole in the trim won't work, it's as if the plastic arm isn't connected to the latch as there's no resistance or even sometimes it gets stuck/lodged open and still no joy which leads me to believe it's no longer connected to the latch itself. This is why I unscrewed the 3 nuts and took the tailgate off the lock. I took the plastic cover off (3 screws) and took the plastic wheel/spindle off. I've got as much glass out as possible but there is still some that has gone so far in that not even angled tweezers gets it out. I've no idea how to unlock this latch even when the tailgate has been taken off the lock itself.
  2. Hi My boot lock decided to stop working. I've taken the trim off and got the tailgate detached from the lock. I cannot actually get the locking arm to release from around the bar that it latches on to. From what I can see some glass has found it's way inside. My windows were smashed by a thief and the glass shattered inside the tailgate. I've tried to get as much out as possible. However the plastic release arm moves (but also gets stuck and I have to dislodge with screwdriver). Anyway as that part isn't working even if I try by hand I've been trying to release the bit that wraps around the bar. (Attached pic). But it just won't budge or I just can't find somewhere to lock the screwdriver in to push it around. It's covered in plastic and I can't see anything. Any help appreciated, it's coming up for an MOT and if I can get this off, I can see if it can be fixed or buy a new one and replace myself.
  3. I've managed to fix the issue just by buying two new bulbs. I'm doubting both bulbs have blown at the same time?
  4. Hi, Yes, all the interior lighting works fine, the dash lights up when I switch the light switch/knob to on, as does the light on the switch/knob (sidelights) to 'green'. Everything else is working apart from the actual low beam lights. Dash lighting on (as if I have low beam on), light switch light on, full beam works, sidelights work, rear lights work, reg plate lights work, front daytime running lights work and fog lamps and reverse light are all working fine. Just spoke to the wife and she said on Wednesday she had issues with the headlights (hasn't told me until now).
  5. Hi, I started the car this morning and everything was working fine. I stopped for fuel and for the first time ever I never switched off the lights and stopped the engine (don't know I didn't turn off lights as that's not usual for me). When I started the engine I had no headlights. The sidelights work, full beam works and the daytime running lights work. The dim beam doesn't. I changed the fuses to see if it was that, and still nothing. On the dash the light on the headlight switch/knob doesn't come on either. It does work for the sidelights which is on the same knob (and full beam on the dash works). Does anyone know what could be the issue?
  6. Hi, Yes, after changing the plugs and leads all my issues disappeared. I have noticed yesterday after trying to find another fault that one lead was melting (plastic sheathing) so I will cable tie this out of the way and to another to stop it contacting and melting. My issue originally was a rubber mount that the plugs push into to keep them in place. The rubber had displaced and pushed the plug out slightly. I bought new plugs and new coil packs and replaced the lot.
  7. I have a whine at the front of the engine that has appeared in the last few weeks. It's gradually got louder and although no distinct noise change when accelerating, it is now noticeable in pitch and noise definitely going up and down with the accelerator pressed and released. I have uploaded two videos to YouTube to allow members to listen. Would anyone be able to tell me what this whine is, is it the turbo? It's a 1.2 TSI 105ps engine, 63 plate
  8. That's great thank you. Can you confirm if cylinder 1 spark plug is the far left hand side? I've ordered a new spark plug, plug socket and new breather valve. I shall then check those and if it continues I shall go down the coil pack route
  9. Looking on here, this seems to be a Crankcase Breather hose and has a long spout to push into the crankcase. However mine has definitely broken off and i assume the inch long bit is still inside the crank case.
  10. I've just gone to check this and found something quite worrying... When i shone the torch down i found the attached hose detached and hanging off with oil around it. I first noticed the oil and upon having a look found it detached and what looks like the end broken. I did try putting it back but it won't hold in and i'm worried now the bit that seems to be broken off is inside the engine. When i put the hose back on (pushed it gently back in as far as i could).... the engine still shook and spluttered. But it was only just pushed in a tiny amount as there doesn't seem to be much to push in.
  11. Hi, The car has done 78,000 miles and the "service and oil change" literally had appeared on the info panel two days ago so it's up for a service now as it had a service just before i bought the car a year ago. It has a digital service record which i am unsure how to get access too, to have a look what was done. I just borrowed a cheap OBD reader from a neighbour and plugged it in. It shows 1 code found. P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire
  12. I'm just wondering if a dodgy coil pack could cause this. I just watched a video on youtube with an Audi using VW coil packs (which i assume the Skoda uses) and the engine shaking was quite similar. It also showed the same type of errors. Once changed the engine stopped shaking.
  13. Hi, I've just been driving home this evening and everything was fine until i rounded a roundabout and went to power away and suddenly the car lost power and there was an abrupt and continuing shudder. I could barely accelerate and the ESP light came on and the warning info came on saying "Stabilisation Control Error" with ESC and engine light. I immediately stopped and turned the engine off. Turned it back on and the engine was shaking quite a lot, the whole car was shaking/shuddering. As i only lived 1/2 mile up the road. I tried to carry on, difficult to accelerate with the shuddering but once in 3rd it was okay. Back into 2nd and 1st and it was difficult to get any power and the shuddering was quite a concern. Once i parked up I flipped the bonnet open and asked the Wife to start the car. The engine was shaking/shuddering quite abruptly, continuously on its mounts. So turned the engine back off. I've had the car exactly a year, its a 63 plate 1.2 TSi 105ps which i think is chain driven. I'm just wondering if anyone here might have had the same problem or if anyone knew what it might be before I make the dreaded phone call to a garage.
  14. Thank you for your help, it's very much appreciated. It's a nicer drive than my previous (mondeo) albeit a bit squeeky when going over bumps. The only issue so far I've found is a temperamental fuel filler cap... Takes a while to unlock using the key.
  15. Hi, I've got conflicting reports on whether my engine is belt or chain driven. It's a Spaceback 1.2Tsi 105hp/77kw, November 2013 (63 plate). If it's belt, can anyone tell me the interval for replacement, I've bought the car at 68,500 miles. Currently on 69,700 miles. Apologies if it's been asked already but I did do a search and was getting non stop fabia and octavia returns even though I was in spaceback forum.
